I've been really down on the negative vocal part of the Marquette fan base ever since they trashed the departing players in 2014 just one year removed from the historic three consecutive Sweet 16s and through the trashing of the whole team last month and Wojo most of the time.
And then I read the reason NPR stopped having comments on their stories and had to smile that their research showed that only 0.003 percent of the readers of their website had commented in the three month period they checked.
That put things in perspective - I saw the Big East tournament averaged 379,000 viewers per game so for arguments sake let's say 100,000 were watching and rooting for Marquette at some point, perhaps we are in that same range. If close to 100 people out of them comment and want Wojo fired it's nice to remember the shrill attacks year after year are from a pretty tiny minority and the vast majority who tune into watch the team or better yet occasionally catch a game and even boo a ref are the true fans.
I'll keep boarding the plane and making Marquette season tickets by far my most expensive voluntary purchase every year - and thanks for the fans who truly are supportive of the team and actual do battle with the hysterical, irrational but most vocal critics.
GO MARQUETTE!
