Marquette was blown out by Nova. So glad our local news stations keep great tabs on Marquette basketball.
-
He's still around?
I remember watching him do TV news during my Marquette tenure from 1987-1991.
-
Well, if you look at the box score, a fifteen point loss isn't exactly a nail biter.
-
If my memory serves me Pip was an ESPN anchor way, way back in the day.
-
Too may applications of "Just for Men." Unless he just slips on a whole "anchorman hair helmet." Don't watch him enough to say for certain.

I graduated in 1983 and I remember him too. That's a long time to be talking about sports for 2.5/3 minutes a couple times a day. Nice work if you can get it.

Nice BoDeans reference worked-in at the end there too!

Yep, he came to Channel 6 from ESPN. Remember meeting him at an MU Minutemen outing in Waukesha shortly after he came to Milwaukee.

What an odd thread. We were blown out.

very nice genuine guy. Supports important causes without fanfare.
We were in a restaurant with friends and some of our kids. One of the kids has Downs and came into the restaurant in her Special Olympics cheerleading uniform. Tom knew exactly why she was dressed up and came across the restaurant to talk to HER. Later he talked with her parents.
Good man.

Some of you may remember that Pip did MU TV play by play for a time. Big Bob Lanier did the color commentary.
in one favorite sequence it went something like this TP " Bob the Warriors are really moving the ball well" Lanier " Yes they are Pip......really good ball movement" Pip "Great ball movement buddy!..........turnover!"

Nice to know. Thanks. (Still don't like the hair.):)

Then he went to ESPN from Channel 6 because he was doing local before there was an ESPN.
He was a judge for the MU Cheerleader tryouts during my wife's era.

That is hilarious. Also loved the part of the article about tickets selling for $7/$9/$11. Today, that sounds like buying a brand new car for a few thousand dollars.

For those from DC Pipines was a classmate of The Greaseman at Ithaca College.

Love that pointy object framing him. Is that a compass needle? Must be...

True, I was on the BC floor when we clinched the C-USA title and saw the Pip kiss Tom Crean.

1. This thread is a perfect example of how insecure we are as a fanbase on this forum. Who cares if it isn't 100% accurate. We did end up losing big and Nova showed they were a far better team.
2. He isn't exactly Zach Lowe with his analysis, but he is a local guy who cares about the team and is a great guy. We could do much worse.

Is Tom Pipines Crean's other son?

My incredibly exciting Tom Pipines story: In the early 90s, he spoke at a father/son breakfast at St. Rita's in West Allis. During the Q&A session, I -- a high schooler attending with my dad and grandpa -- asked him about Prop 48. He didn't know what it was. That said, he seemed like a nice person. I always appreciate how much time the local newscasters spend in the community.

I completely disagree. A single poster got upset because Pippins said we were blown out in a game we lost by 15. I don't think that's a good representation of "(us)...as a fanbase on this forum."

Yep, this is the one and only time a rogue poster went off--never before this though.

Once again, not what was said.
