just realized that...
if we win tomorrow our record will be 8-2.. even if we lose out from that point on, we'll be 8-8. If each of the bottom four teams win out, they will all have 8-8 records.
We would win the tie-break over all of the current bottom four teams except cinci because we beat each of them (assuming the win tomorrow night). The tie breaker would then depend on cinci's record against the top team in the big east vs. our record against them - since we do not play cinci. Some one asked a while ago.. here are the
complete tie-break rules.
Course, we don't have to worry about losing out anyhow
On a slightly related topic.. did some checking and cinci has not had a losing season in conference or overall in the past 5 seasons.. (as far as the data I could see - anyone know beyond that?) last season they were barely .500 in conference but still not a losing season... this season, they are one loss away from guaranteeing a losing conference season (currently at 1-8) and 3 losses away from guaranteeing a losing overall season (currently at 10-13).. with 7 games to play yet... 4 of which are on the road (where they are 1-5) and 2 of their 3 remaining home games vs. ranked teams (where they are 0-3).. not looking good at ALL for them... this is quite sad for a perennial contender.. and I actually miss the competitive games against them. I hope they return to form soon.
