Who is left on the 2009 recruiting board?
« on: June 01, 2009, 12:13:43 PM »
With the chatter of another departure and Buzz still recruiting, are there any quality players left out there for 2009?  Anyone with some names, fill me in.   Thanks

I think he said "quality".  And "players".

I have not been following the Kentucky recruit situation all that much, are there any upper classmen from the UK/Cal/Memphis merger that might be a good fit (would Gillespie be a bridge to getting one of the UK castoffs)?

That is an interesting thought but minus Meeks and Patrick Pat, UK was a pretty terrible team in a crappy conference.  Not sure if I want any of them.

Buzz seems to me to be a moralist, so he will not hire someone who has a drinking problem. It is interesting that he has not filled the assistant position. Buzz always seems to have a plan. He is very secretive so we are constantly surprised by what he does. The only reason I can come up with why Buzz has not filled the assistant position is that he is holding it open for James if he does not make it with a pro team and decides not to go overseas to play.

Be reasonable.  That is probably the least likely of any outcome.

I agree.  Didn't James himself say he hates watching basketball?

I could see Dominic as a coach someday, but I would be shocked if he doesn't play for a few more years first.  Hopefully it'll be in the NBA, but if not he could have a very productive (and lucrative) career overseas.

getting back to the original question, there is pretty much jack left on the recruiting board for 2009.  the only top 100 recruit left is lance stepheson.  we're looking at mostly 2 star players, mostly guards.

Although talented, Lance Stephenson has been labeled as a cancer, someone that many coaches won't even touch.

Lance isn't the only top 100 recruit left but the pickings are very slim.  Noel Johnson a top 50-ish small forward got his release from USC last week and is now available.  Rosco Davis, who was top 100 in 2008 but went to a Prep School and reclassified is out there as well.  That's pretty much it.

We should steer clear of Stepheson.  Johnson and Davis are forwards.  Depending on who leaves, I think we would need a guard.

Did Latavious Williams commit to Memphis before or after Coach Cal left?  If it was before, is there any way he'd decommit?  Was he even considering Marquette/was Marquette even considering him?

He committed for Pastner.
