After criticizing the defense last week, I'm encouraged by Maui. Yes, we got taken to the woodshed the last 10 minutes by a bigger, stronger, more experienced team, but we also kept it close as long as the threes were falling.
So we know our kryptonite. It's big, strong, experienced teams. That's a problem for a lot of teams. It's also not what we'll see on a nightly basis. We don't play anyone else on the schedule that is top-100 in both experience and size, per Pomeroy.
We should look better against LSU and I'd put the over/under at wins needed for a tourney berth at 18.5. That's attainable. I do think we'll ultimately see improved defensive efficiency this year. With our shooting, that'll win us some games we shouldn't. On another night, the shots fall, we win that game. If we played Wichita Monday in the opener, I think we would've won that game.
Win today and that's a great Maui trip.
