Kolek planning to go pro
An emboldened cast of anonymous trolls spewed racist slurs and Nazi memes onto Twitter in the hours after billionaire industrialist Elon Musk took over the social network, raising fears that his pledge of unrestricted free speech could fuel a new wave of online hate. The flood of racist posts was among the most prominent signs of how Twitter had changed in the first hours of Musk’s ownership. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/10/28/musk-twitter-racist-posts/?utm_campaign=wp_post_most&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_most&carta-url=https%3A%2F%2Fs2.washingtonpost.com%2Fcar-ln-tr%2F383c104%2F635bfbbcf3d9003c581d2c05%2F5f8d147cae7e8a56e5b732a4%2F59%2F72%2F635bfbbcf3d9003c581d2c05&wp_cu=b1005792a416de1fbe1f17e5cf366b7d%7CB1FF71CA724A36FAE0530100007F88D6
That was the plan. Elon got his way.
He's also going to have to cough up $187M for firing the top 3 execs.
He has to be careful because the big advertisers will follow GM’s lead and just pull out of Twitter if it becomes a sh*tshow.
Based on my earlier post -- An emboldened cast of anonymous trolls spewed racist slurs and Nazi memes onto Twitter in the hours after billionaire industrialist Elon Musk took over the social network, raising fears that his pledge of unrestricted free speech could fuel a new wave of online hate -- it is already becoming a sh*tshow.
Same moderation algorithms are currently in place, and the bad stuff was removed.Calm down, Francis.
We'll see what Musk's "council" allows. As I've said, though, I'm all for Twatter publishing it all. I like knowing who the racists are, who is planning civil war, etc. Musk's the one who used the word, "hellscape."
I also think Musk will incentivize putting your actual name or identity to your words. Authentication will be a key thing for him.
Content moderation on Twitter will largely remain the same. Also, keep in mind that Twitter wasn’t exactly a perfect community with regards to moderation before the takeover. Where I think the biggest difference will be is in content distribution and visibility. I don’t think Twitter was suppressing free speech from anyone, but they do control who is heard and who isn’t to a large extent. Technically, there’s nothing wrong with that since it’s their platform. People have the right to free speech, not the right to be heard. Even the right to free speech is debatable on social media. Anyway, I think it’s safe to say that Twitter had a pretty strong left-wing bias when it came to distribution or reach of content. I think that will even out more but you may not even notice it much as ideally people will be shown content that more closely aligns with their interests.I also think Musk will incentivize putting your actual name or identity to your words. Authentication will be a key thing for him.
Why do think that? I know he made it a key issue pre-sale during due diligence, but that’s because it wasn’t his problem then and he could use it to get out of the sale/lower the price/generally grab headlines. Now that it’s his problem I’m suspicious that he actually will do anything about it or cares.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the US has a strong left wing bias.
Wat? The US is center right.Dane Co is strongly left, obvs.
I guess that's fair, our President is a center right dude.
