The vaccine takes hospitalization and death off the table. Follow the science. It is real, aina?

Unless and until a fully vaccine-resistant strain emerges. Then we could be back at square one.

As long as the virus is broadly circulating - whether among vaccinated or unvaccinated people - we need to remain vigilant.

And we have seen how many in the US care about that, and your statement applies to the entire world.

I get it.  It's just not going to happen.  There are too many social, economic and political pressures right now.  Even in Europe there are increasing protests from all sides.

I've booked two plane trips for the next two months.  (Business and pleasure.)  We are talking about bringing people back to work in May.  This is the path we are on.

I get that, and don't necessarily oppose the path you described.

But being vigilant doesn't have to mean a lockdown or travel ban. I'm talking about people continuing to wear masks until they're vaccinated, most people getting vaccinated as soon as they are able, employers requiring proof of vaccination to get back into offices etc. That shouldn't impose undue restrictions on business or pleasure. The key is people being reasonably sensible.

employers requiring proof of vaccination to get back into offices

Not allowed here in Wisconsin under proposed legislation, but putting that aside, what would you do if your very best, loyal, trusted, productive, long tenured employee refuses to get vaccinated?

Tell him he's welcome to WFH most of the time, and that company policy is that he has to wear a mask 100% of the time he is in the office?

don't know if you've ever owned a business before, but easier said than done.  a lot of it has to do with what type of business

Listen man, I just answered a hypothetical.  I understand a dental hygienist can't WFH, but a mask 100% for people that don't want to get vaccinated is possible (putting aside all legal battles as the hypothetical proposed).

If you can control their hair style, you can control mask wearing.

So why has Michigan's case count started to rise but Wisconsin hasn't yet seen the same? (Michigan had 5,000 new cases while Wisconsin had about 800.)  New variant in Michigan?  Better vaccine roll out in Wisconsin?  Wisconsin has a larger peak in the fall (doubly so on a per capita basis) so there were more "fresh bodies" in Michigan?

New variant.   UK Variant is very active here.   Vaccine has been very organized for the most part.   But not opening up to the general public until this week.   Focused on seniors and essential workers.

Spring break and bars reopening, too.

It has to be the variant.  The rest of the US is going through spring break, and other things as well.

Honestly, the best thing that might have happened to the US was that polar vortex two weeks in Feb that kept a lot of people home.

Probably driven by anti-vaxxer MAGA types here.   Anti-maskers.   Mensa candidates.

7th grader in the school where my son is an 8th grader tested positive and is symptomatic.   The entire 7th grade will be virtual next week.    Baseball practices for the 7-8th grade team are cancelled.  Which impacts my son.

No immigrants.

It isn't over.   Wear masks.  Get vaccinated.
