New video posted a few days ago. Interesting to see. Can't wait for more details. So hoping they do the lighting like MSG.

Hope the seats aren't green.

.....bright Notre Dame Green.
-
I haven't heard a word anywhere about Marquette playing in this arena. Are we sure we are a part of this deal?
-
Last I heard it is still expected but details aren't finalized. At the end of the day, they need to fill dates, and we guarantee them 18-20 filled dates. I expect it to get done. The whole naming rights thing with the athletic medicine facility didn't help.

I just read an article about Lovell and fundraising that mentions it. I don't think the partnership with the Bucks is happening based on how they avoid mentioning it other than "unsure of their role." It does mention we are negotiating the rent for the stadium.

Yeah...when we went with Aurora for the naming rights, I don't think it sat too well as the Bucks had an arrangement with Froedtert. Sounds like there may be separate facilities now, which seems somewhat odd, putting two new sports medicine facilities in the same area.
As far as where else we'd play...I'm going with the "crickets" answer. It'd be tough to get into the Arena, and the Al would seem inadequate. I suspect it will get done and won't end up being an issue.

While the lease may not have been signed yet, ESPN and the Milwaukee Business Journal are reporting Marquette is going to be playing in the new arena.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/16284190/groundbreaking-set-new-milwaukee-bucks-arena
The arena will also host Marquette University basketball games, concerts and other events.
http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/blog/2016/01/marquette-sports-research-center-bucks-made-news.html
Marquette's men's basketball program will be a major tenant at the new Bucks arena scheduled to open in 2018
Remember, the Sports District, not the Bucks, owns the new arena. Bucks have very little say in whether MU can play there; however, even if they did, it's highly preposterous that they would stand in the way.
-
"The Al would seem inadequate " has to be one of the all time understatements ever!
They will work it out......we have no other options.
-

As I typed that, I laughed thinking about what an insane demand there would be for tickets. Those fortunate enough to get season tickets, even the crappy ones, could just about name their price once conference play came around (or the Wisconsin game, which will be there the first year).
-
We will be playing in the new arena. There is no question, they couldn't afford it without Marquette and Marquette has no where else to play. This is called a symbiotic relationship.

If the seats are green, I think we should take a pass.

I'm not sure its necessarily true that they couldn't afford it without Marquette.

Considering Marquette isn't contributing anything to the construction, I'm going to agree with this. We will be the secondary tenant, and it does fill 20 dates for them, but it's not impossible to fill that without our presence. There are 30 NBA teams, how many share a venue with a college team, 3? Other than us, Georgetown, and St. John's, are there any others?

Nova.

Where exactly do you think they would play if not the new arena?
-
I was concerned about the Bucks holding all of the cards in the negotiations. Our only leverage is to negotiate with UWM for dates at the Mecca or say we'll play at the Al for 2 years and build an on campus arena... Not a good negotiating position for MU... But that's life.
I'm sure it will be worked out, but on more favorable terms to the Bucks than it should be. Too bad Marc Marotta isn't around...
-
It is too bad Marc is not around for a lot reasons. Still miss him big time and cannot believe gone almost two years.

My guess is that there are very few NBA arenas that don't share with a college basketball team or a professional hockey team.

More than you'd think. I count at least 12 NBA arenas that do not also currently host a college basketball team or a professional hockey team.
Detroit, Indiana, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Houston, Minnesota, Sacramento, Phoenix, Utah, and arguably Portland (co-host the Portland Winterhawks of the Major Junior Level (amateur) Western Hockey League).

Huh. Well I stand corrected.

Allstate Arena...sharing it with Northwestern next year.
-
Looks like we are one of three programs that play full-time in a NBA arena, along with Georgetown and Memphis.
Aside from the Big East teams (and the aforementioned Memphis), LIU-Brooklyn and Cleveland State are the only other teams that have a NBA arena as a part time home. Other programs, like Cal and Georgia Tech, previously were NBA arena tenants, but are no longer.
-
I cant even fathom having to play in the al..thats crazy talk. and also what a mega down grade to have to play at the dump panther place.
-
for what its worth MU sent season ticket info for next year already and in the packet they say that it will be the last year in the BMO BC as they will move the following year to the "new downtown arena".....
-

I don't think it will be a problem and we will end up in the new arena.
That said, we share dates with the admirals, concerts, and bucks current. At the arena, you replace the Bucks with the UWM (25 less home games). We would be the number 1 tenant at that location revenue-wise and I would think we would be able to throw our weight around and alternate between Saturday day and night games.
The new stadium is the obvious choice and will be amazing, but the arena does have some appeal as a "small" 11k arena that doesn't have a bad seat. I could imagine that place could get crazy for big games. Though the pride hit of playing in panther arena would be too much.
-
We don't share dates with the Admirals anymore. They're across the street.

Nova.
Nova only plays a few games a year there. Same with SJU. I think us and GTWN are the only two who play every game in an NBA arena.
I would love a set up like Nova's. Play most games at a snake pit of a campus gym but play the really big sell outs at an NBA arena. You can sell recruits on both the raucous home court atmosphere and access to NBA facilities. Probably a pipe dream, but I think it would be ideal.
-

Memphis plays all their games at the FedEx Forum.
-
Memphis plays all their games at the FedEx Forum.
Well there you go. Three teams who do it and none of us have won a championship since the 80s.
-
We will be in the new arena... details being worked on as we speak
-
I'd think they'd want to .. muddy the waters. Start yearning for nostalgia and dusting off that old Mecca floor .. hell, maybe even split the games like St. Johns .. play cupcakes at the Mecca for a fraction of the BC2 rent, schedule weekend games at new stadium.
Not that anyone wants that .. but it'd be better to have options when it comes to new leasing negotiations.
The Bucks aren't building a new stadium to reduce beer waiting times. They're doing it for one reason: To take more money away from attendees.
.. And dropping $75 for two tickets to an MU game versus Southwest Typewriter College is already too high.
-
We want to be in the new arena all the time. Lots of cachet.
-
They are already building the MU locker room and have the finishes on order.
Both new MU and Bucks locker rooms are supposed to be amazing.
-
Yeah. This is what happens when someone makes an offhand comment and everyone goes nuts.
Thanks, SaveOD.
-
Getting back to the new arena, the video really makes it sound like the arena is going to be outstanding. I like the fact that it is more like a baseball stadium where you can see the court from the concourse. Very excite to see the finished product.
-
It is too bad Marc is not around for a lot reasons. Still miss him big time and cannot believe gone almost two years.
Agree.
But, is the Bradley Center Board immediately moving over as the new arena board?
-
Get y'all shock absorbers outta mothballs, get a heart exam, and get ready for a rockin' roller coaster ride, ai na?
-
...but there are schools that play in NHL arenas. Seton Hall comes to mind and of course PC shares with an AHL team.
-
Yeah. This is what happens when someone makes an offhand comment and everyone goes nuts.
Thanks, SaveOD.
You're welcome.
I was just picking up on how the local media never calls it "the new home of the Bucks AND Marquette." Then again, local sports media pretends we don't exist anyways (I'm looking at you, 105.7 The Fan)
-
I noticed that all of the bars they show in the mock-up have Miller logos.
A clue, perhaps, to the name sponsor?
-

Sounds like roller coaster, indeed. You never know what is going to happen these days.
-
I cant even fathom having to play in the al..thats crazy talk. and also what a mega down grade to have to play at the dump panther place.
Not a dump, but yes, MU can't be playing there.

Having green seats everywhere would be a disaster. Really hope it is a different color.

Ain't no dunn deel. Gotta tink outside da box. Strap it on 'cuz wee be headin' uptown. That is all, hey?

I'm of course thinking from an MU perspective and seeing Blue and Gold mixed with green seating everywhere would look bad.

2nd grade color wheel...
our 5th color is technically green.
Blue + gold/yellow = Green

Heading uptown may not be a bad deal, IMO.
-

This was my thinking as well. At least when a cupcake gets a small crowd, the seats are blue to blend in.
Go with a neutral dark gray.
-
If the seats are comfortable and have leg room you can make them bright red for all I care.

You only have to live with it until the Thunderdome breaks ground.

This! Being 6'3" in the BC makes kneeing strangers in the back of the head a regular occurrence if I'm not by the aisle.
Don't most stadiums do a darker neutral color anyways? I wouldn't mind a darker green, maybe like Miller park? Maybe not?
-

Maybe it's just me, but the darker the seats are, the less empty the empty seats appear.
So should we paint the student section black (or very, very dark gray)?
-

The Brewers are also blue and gold with green seats. No one seems to complain there.
-

Yeah. Complaining about seat color, especially in an arena that Marquette does not own and that a green and white team has the rights to and might put green seats in, is beyond silly.
-
Here's a rendition of the new DePaul arena. I think it has a similar, but nicer layout. Seems to have more seats closer to the action. Either way, stoked about both new arenas.
Now back to the basketball.

So what?

In a stadium that size though seat color doesn't really change appearance of capacity.

So what?
I was just posting my preferred seat color and the reasons why. Sorry, I'll stop posting opinions on a message board.

Well if both DePaul fans each sit on a different side of the arena, it will kind of have the appearance of being fuller.

What is this? An arena for ants? How are the players supposed to play if they can't even fit in the building?
-

But the seats are blue and DePaul fans would wear blue, so you can't tell if the seats are empty or not.

Not trying to be that guy, as it hasn't been reported, but a good source told me that yesterday. Dark gray or black seats.
Also robmufan pointed out, those green seats would be hell for any use of green screen effects.

I do like the cantelever design of the seats behind the baskets for the student section, with the cascading decks.

Like a fine Bordeaux with Chateaubriand, deadends and DePaul make the perfect pairing.

First few years, Depaul fans will come out to see the joint. If they can capitalize on that, build some momentum, it could do wonders for them.

With the exception of MU games .. so will the Bucks' new arena.
A friend posted a picture of the BC last night during a Bucks' game on a Friday. Wow, was that place empty. Maybe a few thousand people, tops.

If they start winning again, they'll be fine. The Big 3 drew fans every night. Giannis and Jabari may not get them back quite to that level, but a new arena and if they can add one more star to compete for regular playoff berths, fans will turn out. Look at the Brewers, great attendance with Braun and Fielder, but has fallen off without them. In this city, winning cures all attendance problems.

DePaul certainly has a knack for taking a good thing and turning it into a smoldering pile. I can see the entire lower bowl being empty because nobody wants to pay for premium seats. Unless Marquette is in town of course...

Student section getting moved upstairs haha
Oh my, DePaul could eff up a wet dream...
Following a mid-February win over Providence, members of DePaul’s men’s basketball team stormed the student section at Allstate Arena. Celebrating their biggest win of the season — upsetting the then No. 11 ranked team in the country — the Blue Demons joined students partly because there weren’t enough fans to storm the court. It was the rare moment where students could enjoy success right along with the players, with the student section faced directly behind the basket.
But with the construction of DePaul’s new arena, this wouldn’t be possible. Once the arena opens in Fall 2017, the way students experience games will likely be drastically different.

Another stupid decision made by DePaul in this sh!tstorm of a project.
The best part of this article could be the photo of the student section. This is better than what I saw at the Marquette game:

I think the Bucks could become a winning program. Giannis is a fantastic player, and probably one of the few guys that might actually stay in Milwaukee for his career. The Bucks did a ton of stuff behind the scenes that really endeared them to him before he even played a minute for Milwaukee, and the new ownership group seems willing to spend, if the money they paid for Monroe and the arena are any indicator. The NBA has seen success from franchises in markets outside the mass media markets in recent years, just look at Cleveland and San Antonio.
-

Total bullcrap. I was there last night and the lower bowl was packed. Upper bowl decently attended. Would say actual attendance was about 15k vs the paid attendance of 16+k. Bucks games have been much better attended this year. Don't like MU fans acting like we fill the BC better. National Marquette day is one thing. But those IUPUI games with 8k people there...

Agreed, but it shows you the power of opening a brand new arena. I'm pretty certain that Bowen wouldn't have even been answering the phone, nonetheless showing up on a visit to Depaul if they couldn't use it as a selling point.
-
DePaul has not had a winning season in over a decade. They have lost 19 or more games every single year the past decade. They have had 6 winning seasons in the past 22 years. Prior to that DePaul had 24 straight winning seasons. It will not take 24 winning seasons to draw interest, but it will take more than a few. They have played in a non ideal location in a non ideal atmosphere for a very long time. Winning, a lot of it, over time, will draw some student interest. That will take years of success first. And even with greater accessibility via public transportation, location is still not ideal of the new facility. Hopefully they can get something going and be more competitive long term.
-
What would make DePaul's place even better would be to bring back the old logo.
They need a rebrand badly. I think the current logo/wordmark came in with Kennedy in the late 90s. Looks so dated.

The Bucks understood the value of the Antenkompou family. Hope they get rewarded with a championship .

Cool interactive site of the new arena.

The new arena must not be getting the green seats anymore.
-
New stadium .. a couple thoughts.
First .. the upper deck is half the size of the BC. Looks like 12 rows instead of 25.
Second .. as I checked out "my" seats with the 3d look-around .. welp, it looks like a stadium, not that much different than the BC. I'm sure the seats are nicer, the jumbotron jumboier, etc.

Ok, that's pretty cool. Definitely prefer the black seats to the green as well
-
Foxconn Center. Book it baby.
-
The last 10 rows in the lower bowl look like they'll be further from the court than the first few rows of the upper deck in the BC. That said, I have to admit they did a great job of packing in as much seating as close to the floor as possible, and that's going to make for some great atmosphere.

Politics? Did I say how I felt about the corporate welfare involved? (I think it's fine.)
-
You used the word 'corporate welfare', a completely politically loaded term and you know it. You do understand that this project is supported by the ENTIRE Wisconsin congressional delegation, yes?
Sometimes silence is golden Suntan. Oh, I forgot 21,950 posts. Let's both hope Foxconn decides to be a wonderful new corporate citizen and approaches the Arena Board with a nice naming rights offer; a perfectly reasonable goal that will enhance the economics for the facility that will house your favorite team. And let's just leave it at that. Miller and Harley can't pay for everything in Wisconsin. Have an awesome evening.
-
Grab a fainting couch glow. And have chick give you a message...or something. You seem stressed.

they are investing $10 billion, creating up to 13,000 jobs at average annual salary of $55k plus bennies. with those kinds of jobs, they might even buy MU tix, eyn'er?
-
I took a tour of the arena last week. It feels much smaller than the BC and that's with just standing on a concrete floor and no seats in place. The top row of the new arena is 30 feet below the top of the BC. Every seats feel like it's on top of the action. Honestly it was better than I expected and the Panorama Club (open to all ticket holders each game) will be very, very cool.
-

Hopefully.
Again, it's just an example of how one type of welfare is considered a good investment, but the other is considered an expense.
-
Here we go. I make a simple statement that a new corporate giant is coming to town and might be a great candidate for the naming rights and THAT simply can't be celebrated.
Perhaps the mods should re-establish the politics board so you guys have a place to voice your opinions. Heck, it's now 'allowed' to permeate a decent percentage of the Superbar threads anyway.

Hmmm, one kind of welfare creates thousands and thousands of tax-paying jobs and the other traps people in poverty....

Holy $hit do you jump off the cliff quickly. Perhaps you and your friend should spend, say, just one day off Scoop and be a shoulder for each to cry on.
You revived a four month dead thread with intent. Then played the victim. That's immature and pathetic.

Let's look at both types of welfare recipients ten years from now and see which was a better use of government money.
And no need to worry about glow.

1. I never said one was better than the other, but...
2. Define your parameters. How will you determine which one was a better investment?

2. Define your parameters. How will you determine which one was a better investment?
Easy. If we're talking just about welfare (i.e. food stamps and the like), number of people employed would be a wonderful metric.
If you're talking about including all social welfare programs (e.g. disability, social security, medicare/medicaid, ACA subsidies, etc.).. apples and giraffes, so good luck with that.

From what I read about Foxxcon, see if it happens first. If they break ground then you can call it a Done Deal. Apparently this is not the first time they've announced new plants in the USA or elsewhere. Pennsylvania is still waiting on the promised plant from 4 years or so ago. Indonesia is still waiting on any action at all on the promised and announced $1b plant about 2 years ago.

Another stupid decision made by DePaul in this sh!tstorm of a project.
The best part of this article could be the photo of the student section. This is better than what I saw at the Marquette game:
At first, I thought this was a typo:
"Following a mid-February win over Providence, members of DePaul’s men’s basketball team stormed the student section at Allstate Arena"
Now that I see what the student section looks like, it makes more sense that the team would storm the student section.

My guess is half those people are DePauw students who misread the schedule.

Yep these companies are doing that all over you can include my hometown we've been waiting for over 5 yrs. A good friend of mine, a lawyer, sold him 2 of his buildings for offices that they occupy right now. They offered to contract him as their lawyer, but he said he declined because he saw certain things that lead him to suspect they are laundering money.

Shouldn't Foxconn have to have their own PR Dept.?
Obviously, we'd all like to have them locate here - I live in Racine county. But, lets see what the giveaway amounts to before we go all gung-ho.
Also, since they want to give the Orange creep credit here as well, why isn't the Federal gov't providing some of this corporate welfare? Why should it fall all on the state and county? And how much burden will there be locally? We haven't seen any numbers yet other than generalities.
-
"And how much burden will there be locally? "
well, as i said earlier-upwards of 13,000 jobs created averaging $55k per year plus benefits. then you've got all the constructions jobs building the "campus". all of the companies that will provide the materials for all of this plus foxconn's day-day operations. more than likely, many of these people either will move to the area-renting, buying, paying property taxes...all of the area businesses providing to these new people-food, gas, toilet paper, etc etc
yeah, that's quite the burden

Good point. Gas tax may not be the best option long term. But it was dropped short term for political reasons. The lack of revenue resulting has been a problem.

It's hardly short sighted, the MFT fund has not inflated with construction prices as it should. Every year the state does less with the same stagnant pool of funding.
It needs to happen now while Wisconsin and every other state figure out the funding for the next century.
-

listen sparky, i'm a pro walker guy, but he needs to reign in the transportation dept. i can understand costs going up with inflation, but if i'm paying the bill, i'd like to know when something goes up a couple hundred percent from the time i agreed to the deal to the time of delivering the goods. i may have to change my mind on the purchase, hold them to their original contract or get new bids.
i'm a PRO-transportation guy, but NOT with a blank checkbook. good infrastructure leads to getting big business like the foxconn's and the amazons and the u-lines, et. al., but

rocket, the roads in Wisconsin are awful. Even the Republican legislature knows it. Raise the gas tax a few pennies and tie it to inflation and it would be good enough. But Walker can't do that because he's too interested in his future.
-
I'm kinda hoping it's the "Rickey's on State Arena."

Walker turned his back on transportation long ago, there is no such thing as pro-Walker and pro-transportation.
In regards to overages, DOT estimates for projects are at an all-time high, but contractor's bids are at an all time low. These are mutual.

California is considering a vehicle use tax. They recognize the increasing numbers of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles on the roads and the gas tax is not keeping up with budget needs. Electrics avoid the tax completely and have a free ride so to speak while everyone else pays the tax.
