Well, he wasn't a "pro," but Ralph Metcalfe was a world-record-setting runner and two-time Olympian. He might be best remembered for finishing second to Jesse Owens in the 100 meters at the 1936 Olympics - meaning the Fuhrer had to watch two "inferior" human beings get the gold and silver medals in arguably the biggest event of the Berlin Games.

Marquette also produced dozens of NFL players, including 1st-round draft picks Johnny Strzykalski, Ray Buivid and Ron Drzewiecki.

I was a huge Knicks fan growing up - learned to love basketball watching Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Dave DeBusschere, etc. When somebody today praises a team for playing unselfishly, moving the ball, and locking down on defense, I think back to those Knicks teams.

I haven't been a fan for a long time, but this Knicks team is fun to watch. Lots of good stories, led by the 2nd-round draft pick who I KNEW would be a very good NBA player but has exceeded my expectations. Hell, Brunson has probably exceeded even his own expectations!

DIS getting punished for a fairly solid quarter, IMO. Buy the rumor, sell the news maybe.

It was a really good quarter, and I'm surprised by the pullback. Then again, I'm usually surprised a couple times a week during earnings season. Bad reports/guidance result in advances; good reports/guidance result in sell-offs. Wall Street can be wacky ... and this is why I'm a long-term investor and not a trader.

Sadly my MIL's parish will be closing in the next 6-9 months. It has a mainstay in her life since they moved here in 1978 and she has attended daily Mass 99% of the days she is lived here. She was choir director, music teacher at the school and the closing hit the family hard.

On a sidenote, Pat Connaughton bought the property, and his real estate company is building the apartment complex on the land.

That last sentence is the most ND thing I've ever read.

Each gallon of gas has somewhere between about 28 to 50 cents of government subsidies or unique tax breaks including in it. Depends on who you want to believe as to exactly how much. Times that by the number of gallons of gas sold each year. Not peanuts. But those with money write the tax code.  Anyone who has ever had to review tax returns with oil interests knows this. It’s been done in thousands of different ways, breaks here and there.

MU82:  Musk as a business leader is so insane it is hard to believe that he can  also be a true  visionary in other respects and clouds all he has accomplished. I think of the halo bias in reverse with him.

But his recent business moves make me think he is scarred - I think it’s China producing very cheap electric cars that no one can compete with.  He has turned from a visionary to a short term thinker.   I do think on the AI and FSD they actually have made hugh progress over the last year.  So he does have that going for him.

The Tesla plan was to once again leap frog manufacturing techniques to produce a lower priced car, once again completely reimagine how to design and build a car and factory from the ground up to use less parts, new techniques etc.

Instead they are not doing so and will use mostly current techniques, current factory lines,  and current tech to build a cheaper car that won’t be as cheap as it would have been, nor as advanced, but will be easier to pull off and come to market quicker. Not taking the big swings he has in the past.  He lost a lot of top people due to this move.

Cutting back in areas like charging where they could continue to dominate - allowing others to come into sites already prepped and ready to go make no long term sense, except that he is truly scarred and thinking very short term.

Musk is not investible yet he public says Buffet should invest in Tesla. Water and oil, a guy like Musk is the opposite of what Buffer looks for, of course.  Apple will probably team with Rivian which will be a further blow to Tesla as they will get Apple’s tech they developed but can’t use and needed money.  Companies like apple have stayed away from Musk.

I’ve gotten used to Musk being an idiot,  but he has been a visionary willing to push things and leap frog. Now. It seems like he is scarred.

Outstanding post. A lot of good information, and an opinion I happen to agree with.

I do have a little - thankfully not a lot - invested in TSLA, and as a shareholder I am not pleased with how he has operated for at least a couple years now. His overpriced purchase of a social-media company he didn't even want, and having to sell billions in TSLA to do it ... I regret not having sold my shares right then.

Gard can win with only 3 players on the court, 4 maximum. Extend him.
…which proves the point, Gard knows ball.
