Yeah, I guess it's news, at least according to the strict definition — it reports on a recent event (the suspension). But there's no other new information to be had. Most of the article is apparently irrelevant to the suspension. Why was he suspended? Why is the suspension indefinite? Who knows?

Rumor on the ISU board is that he refused to practice yesterday

It would seem this is an either-or situation:

Either Prohm is a bad guy for trying to force an injured player to practice, or McKay is soft player who doesn't know the difference between a little pain and a real injury.

We might never know which it is.
