Title: Mo Acker
Post by: DonCornholeone on February 17, 2009, 09:40:50 PM
I want the Mo Acker from last year back.  Does anyone know why he doesn't play more?

All you need to do is watch the 2 minute stretch he played at the end of the first half to see why he doesn't see any playing time.  Bad turnover, 2 fouls and we get outscored 9-0.

Play more?  Are you kidding?  Do you watch the games?  He is terrible, Frozena after scoring his first FG of the year NOW HAS AS MANY AS ACKER in BE play!  Enough said!

Yeah, he hasn't played well with the limited time he gets.  His minutes and what he doesn with them indicate that he has regressed.  What happened?

Matchup issues and Buzz's preference to not play the bench much have affected his play.

It's going to be really hard to see how he'll "run" the team next year...especially with Buzz's phenom coming in.

This year struggles or not, we are REALLY going to need him next year.  I hope he has a good summer.  If even Cadougan starts by conference season we don't have as many ball handlers as we do this year.  If he doesn't play a large role next year we are going to be a turnover machine.

He had a golden opportunity to deliver a knockout punch with a wide open three from the right side against South Florida.  He did not deliver.  There was his moment to shine on a night many of the stars struggled, but he failed to capitalize.  Aside from a few flashes peppered in throughout the season, he hasn't earned the PT.

Acker wasn't shooting much better even when he was taking a regular turn in the rotation. At this point, I'd almost rather see Cooby sub for DJ.

And Cadougan starts from Day 1.

I didn't look it up, but I don't think he has scored in over a month.  Now I know that's not his role, but I feel like he hasn't done anything positive.

If DJ went pro, you would be seeing more mo acker.  DJ is our MVP

Acker's last bucket was 1/4/09 against Cinci.

He helped shut down Maclarney.  That is something.

His last points came on 1/31/09 against Georgetown when he hit 2 FT.

JUST SAY NO to COOBY

And Cadougan starts from Day 1.

AGREED...only if he comes in fit and ready to play. If he's bulky...then it's Mo's job.

That's a great reminder.  He did play great D in that game!

Unless Junior's weight makes him a bed-ridden, shut in, he starts.

I agree unless he's Sherman Douglas combince with World B. Free, he's starting!

Even if Cadougan starts from day one, the guy is not going play 38 minutes a game.  We are going to need ballhanders next year and Acker will have to play major time.  Between Acker and Cubillan you would have to think those two will have to average 25 minutes a game between them.

Thus, they had better improve or we will be in trouble next year.

I agree, both of those two have to step it up.  It's there last year to make an impact!

You're forgetting Dwight Buycks.

He's playing a lot of PG for Indian Hills right now, and in addition to his scoring prowess he's showing that he can really run a team.  Quite honestly I'd take him over Acker or Cubillan at the PG next year.

That's great news that Buycks has been playing PG for Indian Hills.  Some nice depth.

Regardless, Buzz has some fun toys to play with next year...but what sort of overall/big east record that will translate into... it is impossible to predict.

I was considering Buycks as well.  If Buycks averages 25 min a game and Cadougan 25 min a game, that is 30 min a game still left at the guard positions.  People have become complacent on how many ball handlers we have right now.  Mark my words, our turnovers are going up by a large margin next year.

I'd bet we're not done recruiting and that Buzz will add a combo guard, who will cut drastically into Acker and Cooby's minutes.

What about this kid Michael Snaer... oh, wait a minute.

??? We were in the hunt til the end.  He just chose FSU.  Not sure why since he mentioned that PT was a priority but whatever.  It really should be... "What about this Jamil Wilson... oh, wait a minute"

Still have no idea how Buzz and his team let a big talent leave... IF A BALLER 25 miles away wants to go to your school, you welcome him.  MU is not UNC or Duke.  MU needs to put up walls around WI.  No talent should leave.

Acker played three minutes and MU up 7.  He had two reach-in fouls called, had the ball taken right out of his hands by Theodore at halfcourt for a layup and missed a wide open three point shot.  Lead was gone and Buzz pulled him for Cubillian in last minute.  If myself and others noticed this, then surely Buzz and staff did.  The fact he has not scored a field goal since 1/4/09 is unreal.

So he played one great defensive game against ND, but the rest of the time he has been non-existent, just giving DJ a breath or two.  He really needs to get some confidence back for next five games and beyond, thats if Buzz even plays him.  It is amazing that we have won 22 games, with no production from backup guards (Acker/Cubillian).  Great job by three amigos.

No way he starts next year, he and Cubillian only play two to three minutes this year, so experience is not an issue.  Heck, when did Cubillian score last? Cadougan should start at PG next year and Buycks at SG.  Maybe third guard (new recruit) can start a new rotation for the next couple of years.

It's disappointing to see him play that poorly.  Not sure what the reason is, but he just can't BUY a basket right now.  I would love to see '08 Acker come back, we could really use a guy who can knock down open shots like the few he's had in the USF game and last night.
