MLB All Star Game... are you watching?
« on: July 14, 2009, 11:43:11 AM »
I have been reading alot of blogs today during lunch and have noticed that alot of blogs are not terribly excited for the Midsummer Classic tonight. This got me thinking about how you all feel about it.

So, are you gonna watch? Yes, No, why?

I am gonna watch. I am from St. Louis and will not pass up the chance to see my city in the national limelight.

I don't know why, but the MLB All Star Game takes me back to my childhood more than anything else.  Even more than Christmas.  I can remember distinctly how excited I used to get when the All Star Game was on.

I always seem to find a way to catch the first 3-4 innings every year.  Then I remember I don't know or care about nearly the entire AL roster, so I lose interest.  I usually end up checking back in at the end of the game in time to see the NL blow it, allowing me to go to bed pissed off yet again.

I'm definitely excited and will watch it because last year was such a sweet game.

Nope.  It's two hours of basketball, followed by beer and pizza.  Maybe if it's on at the bar.

Yes, but only because there are so many Streak for Cash picks to keep track of.

Joe Torre is coaching the NL this year.  It's impossible for us to lose.

UH.... I thought Charlie Manuel was coaching as the Phillies won the NL pennant last season.

CORRECT

Charlie Manuel for the NL because the PHillies were in the series and Joe Maddon for the AL.

You are all correct.  Joe Torre is COACHING on the NL squad for MANAGER Charlie Manuel.

I refuse to credit the awful homefield advantage rule, but this game has been pretty entertaining to watch.

A lot of good pitching and defense, some great pitcher-hitter matchups you don't get to see very much. Almost every AB is power against power. Fun to watch.

Obama throws like a girl.

And judging by this quote does not seem to be a real Sox fan.

"I do think that there's a different quality to what used to be Cominskey Field vs. Wrigley," President Obama told Bob Costas during an interview that aired during Tuesday night's MLB All-Star Game.

For weeks Mark Burhle has been saying how excited he was to get a picture with the president.  During the game last night Buck and McCarver asked Burhle if he got the picture and he said no because Obama was too busy.

For real?  It takes 15 seconds if that to snap a picture.  Come on Obama, help the best pitcher on your FAVORITE team out.

What part of that quote makes you think he isn't a real sox fan?

It was Comiskey Park from 1910-2003.  Any Sox fan would know this.

Actually, in the 1970's, perhaps during the Veeck ownership, the name was briefly changed to just "Sox Park," (around the time he painted the whole thing white) which is another frequently used name.

Obama throws like a girl.

I will give him a pass based on the massive bulletproof vest he had underneath his jacket.  But yeah, the release was little wristy.

Guranteed it was not Obama that said no, clearly one of his handlers.  Because I know one of them, and they are all trained to say no to everything.  Because if Buhrle gets one, another 60 players are lining up to get one too.  Anywhoo, Burhle earned his last pic with W, if he wants one with Obama, go out and win another WS.   :P

I'd bet that Sotomayor could get it in there for a strike, vest or not.  That woman's a beast.

From wikipedia: "The original name, White Sox Park, was restored in 1962, but it went back to the Comiskey Park name in 1976."
