I missed it if this news was posted previously and didn't follow the assistant hirings to know if this was a foregone conclusion, but sorry to see Cam go if that is the case.

Maybe Cam finished graduate school?
He is a high energy good kid . Will be a good addition to any organization business or athletic .
-
No Shaka let him go...or did not retain him so to speak.
-
Cam Marotta is no longer listed as a member of the coaching staff.

-
To be pedantic, he was not on the coaching staff. He was a program assistant on the basketball staff.

Looks like there is a new Video Coordinator listed. Dayshawn Wells.
So I guess we just need a DOBO now

Cam and his family definitely are near basketball royalty at MU. But we all want to win and Shaka needs to do his thing. I have heard from other #MUBB legends that Shaka has reached out and really engaged. I think he's walking the right line of respecting tradition / aiming to cut down some nets.
Also, no ones wearing #24 on a Smart team.

I believe it would further Cam's career to do something out of the MU basketball orbit. He is a super high quality energetic young man . Over time he would be handsomely rewarded for all that he brings to the table of any organization.

The below link to an article contradicts your pedantic assessment.

Thanks for the correction.

Recruiting coordinator is listed as an open position.
-
To the best of my knowledge Cam Marotta as a program assistant was included as a member of the men's basketball coaching staff.
Any evidence that he wasn't would be appreciated.

No you are correct. He was listed under coaching staff on last year's roster.

he was "coaching staff" but without any coaching duties. His role (like DOBO) is classified as "non-coaching administrative" by the NCAA.
If his last name weren't Marotta would anyone care he's not here anymore?

I see one for Program Assistant too. Strange that they don't have a listing for DOBO.

It looks as though Shaka will have one more position that Wojo had the last couple of years.
The last two years, Wojo had three assistant (associate) head coaches, a special assistant (Judson) and a DOBO (Danny Mads) plus a program assistant (Cam).
Shaka will have the three assistants, a special assistant (Smith), a video coordinator (Wells), a director of recruiting and a program assistant. He's just not labelling one a DOBO.

They also had a program assistant intern position posted. Not sure if that's still up without checking. I imagine the DOBO duties can be handled by others, or they may be announcing it later.

To answer a question above ...
Would anyone care if his last name was
Not Marotta ? No , we would not.
But his last name IS MAROTTA. Marc
left a long esteemed career and history at MU. From his playing days to his tragic passing 30 years later, he was one of the best representatives MU has had ... not to mention his kids and Kim
I sure hope Cam was not “ forced “ out.
He and his family deserve better

So he should have a lifetime appointment if he wants one? Look, if his goal is to be a college coach, this is the stuff he will have to deal with.

No, but Brian Wardle gets brought up here all the time when coaching is spoke of, and he certainly wouldn’t be if he didn’t play at MU. And Cam’s lineage goes even deeper.
As for being “forced out”, let’s not jump to conclusions. Shaka has seemingly done everything right culture wise so far, and is close with Doc who is obviously connected to the Marotta’s. The number of players who enter coaching right away and don’t leave their school for many years is fairly small, and usually limited to places like Duke or where they are coaching for their long time HC. IF Shaka had a conversation and said “if your goal is to be a college HC, I’d highly recommend expanding your network and experiencing other programs”, that’s good advice and guidance, not forcing someone out. I HIGHLY doubt he told him “you no longer have a job, don’t care who your dad is, peace”

Wags, I'm not certain Doc and Marc were all that close.

Im just going by what I remember when he passed away. From an article on Cam when he joined the team…
“He was physical and tough, a Steel City kid,” says the Los Angeles Clippers coach. But he was a great guy and a good friend. I talked to him probably a week before he passed.”
-
Wags ...
I did not say he WAS forced out ...
I said I hope he was not. Going to another program would certainly not hurt him. Seems like a very good kid.
-
Shaka has the right to build his own staff. All we should expect is that he handles departing players and staff with a high degree of professionalism. Which I am sure is the case.
-
Wags, I'm not certain Doc and Marc were all that close.
I don't know about Marc's final years, but certainly when they were in school together they were enemies due to Marc's ex dating (and eventually marrying) Doc.

Was it marc's ex at the time? I've heard varying reports on this

Uh, no...that was the issue.

Uh, no...that was the issue.
Yeah, she became Marc’s ex when she dumped him for Doc. Not great for team chemistry, but the heart wants what the heart wants.
-
Uh, no...that was the issue.
well, technically she became Marc's ex when she left him for Doc. But I get where you're coming from.
-
So what people are saying is there wasn't any crossover there where Marc and Doc were really close?
-
i had calculas with cam. best of luck

It's my understanding that they were very close until that happened.

Yep

Marc and Doc were great friends prior to summer vacation going into Doc's Jr. year. They mended the fence over time and Marc spoke with Doc quite a bit before Marc passed away.
-
It's my understanding that they were very close until that happened.
AND if that didn't happen there would be no CAM! ;D
