Why would Martin leave Tenn.to come here? Ties to the program that I am unaware of?

This just has to stop!!

You'd think if it was Howland..that deal would be closed by now...perhaps that's off the table.  Would result in the mystery candidate still in NCAA tourney - is it Bennett?  Martin?  Pretty sure it wasn't Scott Drew...

In MY opinion, I think he is too old and wouldnt be able to recruit well at Marquette. Cuonzo's players love playing for him and would relate much better to high level recruits. Ben was lucky that he coached at UCLA because the name of the school did his recruiting for him

Howland had the #1 recruiting class in the country a couple years ago.  Martin has no track record of recruiting at a high level.

As has been previously stated, Howland also had success in recruiting while at Pitt. It's difficult to dispute Westwood's allure and the school's ability to recruit itself, but a lot of these kids just want that cheese. Howland has produced over a dozen NBA players, many of which were first round picks. [Guaranteed] money talks.

I wouldn't discount the fire in Howland's belly based on how things went down at UCLA.

Im not gonna debate with you on that. All im saying is that Ben didnt do his recruiting. UCLA(the brand name) did it. How did he do at Pitt as far as recruits? Not that good

Bottom line: if Cuonzo was our coach this year we couldve gotten Looney.

How many NBA players does he have from Pitt? Is Aaron Gray still in the League? Oh wait, he was Dixon's recruit.

Guy, if you want to convince us, give us some hard evidence. What were his recruiting classes ranked at PITT from 1999-2003? And are you arguing that he can't recruit top 100s or can't recruit skill. I'd argue against the latter since he won back-to-back Big East titles and had tourney success while at PITT.

The ONLY way Looney would've come to Marquette is if we picked up the campus and moved it far out of state.

Cuonzo or Stephens within 4 days after their season ends. Both have a relationship already with Diamond Stone, which will be a big factor in their selection.

I was reading the Tennessee scout board. A poster mentioned that his buyout goes from $2.6 million to $1.3 million on April 1st. If he is the hire, I could see us waiting for that to go down.

Is saving $1.3 million really worth facing the criticism from MU Scoop for 3 more days?

EDIT: I'm officially on the Martin bandwagon. Like what I've heard and read about him over the last couple of days.

However, my actual guess will Hopkins on Thursday.

If we're truly waiting for a tourney team I'm thinking Stephens may be a real possibility.  MU history and fits MU's recent MO of hiring assistants.

At this point, Howland is not happening. There would be no reason for those discussions to drag out. They either want him or they don't. Not alot to work out here considering he is not employed. One side or the other passed,  Howland is not going to be out next coach. Based on his initial interest, you have to figure MU decided no.

Some weren't sure between 4/1 or 4/15, so it might not be 100% accurate. Frankly, I'd pay the extra $1.3 million just to end this thing.

Yup. Howland ain't happening. Would love to know why.

Because getting even one thing right is too difficult for our administration.

Already posted that I think Stephens could be 1) in play & 2) a good choice.  This Cracked Sidewalks article about possible assistant coaches supports that notion...

  1) Dwayne Stephens -- How this guy isn't a head coach is beyond me. 13 straight years in the tourney, a ton of postseason success at Michigan State, and probably won't wait for his 59-year-old boss, Tom Izzo, to retire. He's worked with guys like Draymond Green, Derrick Nix, and Adrien Payne, turning them into stud big men. Sparty has been in the top-50 in terms of eFG% on offense twice and defense three times in the past three years, so Stephens knows where to focus his coaching efforts. Oh...and his first Final Four? It came when he was an assistant to Tom Crean at Marquette in 2003.

I was reading the Tennessee scout board. A poster mentioned that his buyout goes from $2.6 million to $1.3 million on April 1st. If he is the hire, I could see us waiting for that to go down.

This was from Andy Katz himself so its true.

Yet Brent has only a $100,000 buyout. Wow, that's quite a legal team at MU.

Maybe this was intentional????

The most credible adviser in all this is Doc. Doc loves MU but sent his son to where he might be shaped/mentored by the best.
I think Wojo because he was shaped/mentored by the same. He will bring that here.
All of us with roots on the South Side love him already.
