Great start to the season! ;)
The #MUBB court was damaged and the @Bucks are rectifying the situation. Unfortunately, the new court isn’t expected to be ready until late November, so MU will play on the Bucks alternate court at @FiservForum until then.
-
Now we can't even give Shaka a home court advantage!?!
-
The court is figuratively in a boot.
-
This is a bad omen
-
Throw some ivermectin on it.

Throw some ivermectin on it.
Hahaha that’s rich.

MUBB court seen at Jimmy John’s yesterday.
-
Does the free use of Giannis come with the court?
-
Woj sabotaged the court on his way out.
-
Now is the time for MU to bring back the old MECCA court!!

Retire0 had this idea so I watched a video about the remade MECCA court the Bucks played on a few years ago. At the end of the video they said part of the agreement with Robert Indiana was that it be for one game only and sanded off afterwards.

Back when Kyrie was contemplating sitting out the game because when they went through the walkthrough “you could tell it was old” and he was worried about it causing an injury. It was a new court…
-
I suppose it's possible the alternate Bucks court we are playing on is the repurposed MECCA court from a few years ago.

Homer will be confused as to which is the right three point line.

In 1993 we beat Illinois on the Bucks floor.
This is good. Shaka leaves no stone unturned.
-
Maybe they could insert "MARQUETTE" on the baseline, and leave it up all season? Great PR/advertising for the university. Can't buy that kind of name recognition!
-
MUBB court allegedly refused a slap of five from the AL court and quarreled with the Helfaer Tennis Court at Qdoba. Getting quite the reputation as a cancer

That court was atrocious. Our worst ever. And that includes the time Tom Crean squeezed black & orange into our court.
-
Does this mean Bango will be at our games?
-
WTH. Unbelievable.
-
Woj sabotaged the court on his way out.
Too much floor slapping.
-
Woj sabotaged the court on his way out.
He punched it like a white board.
-
Is there a photo of the court in a walking boot?
-
This will help recruiting.

Medical school coulda fixed it.

None of this would have happened if Marquette had their own on campus arena.

Yeah, good thing we don't because then when the floor got damaged we might not have had a Bucks backup to hoop on. Can you imagine taking a 0-1 L forfeit against Bowie state because we couldn't reserve the rec center for a full 40 minutes? Tragedy.
-

Please don't use such infamatory langauge. There are Moms and Dads who read this board and may faint at the suggestion MU would even investigate the building of their own arena.

There are worse things than playing on The World Champion’s Court.

Start an investigation?

Different times but AL’s Teams did alright playing on the Bucks Court correct
-
Write a letter.

The Old Gym would work. I really think the first round of the next NIT game MU is in should be played there.

So, are we breaking out the MECCA floor tonight? See floor in this image

That'd be awesome. Kyrie would be worried about injury due to being able to feel how old the floor was while going through shootaround...even though it was a new court.

If it's really happening, I wonder what they'll do for the 3pt line. The Bucks replica floor only had the NBA line, I think.

MU is playing a game in the Port of Milwaukee, on a container ship using the MECCA court.
Got it.
-
At the end of the video on the remade court the Bucks used they say part of the agreement with Robert Indiana was that it be for one game only and sanded off afterwards. So that court is likely gone or repurposed.

Oh, yeah, hm.
https://www.cbs58.com/news/local-company-creates-replica-mecca-court-for-bucks-game
The court will likely be sanded down and sent to Oshkosh for the Bucks d-league affiliate, the Herd to use.

The MECCA floor was used for the 2021 WIAA tournament (and presumptively for the Herd, too):
https://www.wissports.net/news_article/show/1149479
So, it's around and owned by the Bucks.

Different, or repainted to have OSHKOSH on it. Also a TON of 3pt arcs, lol.

No deal on the Mecca floor. MU BBall Instagram account just posted videos of some players walking into Fiserv, and it's the same ol' court we saw the other night.
-
How in hell do you "break" a basketball court while it's in storage over the off-season, to the extent that it takes this long to fix/replace.
My only guess would be mold or broken pipes and water damage. Or fire damage.
Does anyone know what actually happened??
-
Does anyone know what actually happened??
I certainly don't, but on the broadcast tonight they said it wouldn't be ready until December.
That surprises me, but labor is hard to come by these days.
-
At least the streetcar had an operable floor:

Lots of television eyes on that 12/11 UCLA/MU game. Hope by then they're back on "The Al McGuire Court" and not some Bucks hand-me-down.

That looks pretty cool.
Hopefully, we get our floor back soon, but there’s worse things than showing we share a stadium with the NBA Champs.
-
Maid in China, hey?
-
Part of it is labor, part finding the time/space to paint and finish.
Bucks are at home through the 24th and back 12/1, so I'm guessing they lay it down at Fiserv that week and get it done.

The Bucks: "Yeah, we'll just stash it away for a few years till Indiana dies, then we'll do whatever the fuk we want with it."

Seriously though, that twitter pic was quite the tease - with nothing to back it up.

that makes the most sense. St. John's used to put down a sticker to cover up the Knicks logo at center court and on the baselines. I think now they replace the center court and baseline panels.

Don’t get me wrong, I miss Marquette’s floor.
But, I mean now we can’t switch it until we lose at home, right?

It seems our players are slipping more than seasons past. I don’t think it’s the floor, but Stevie and Kam in particular really seem to lose their footing.

I thought there was a rumor it got damaged in the celebration, but maybe that was a joke.

Should of played on the Bucks court until Marquette lost. Bull Durham movie “ Do not mess with a winning streak”

Superstition is for chumps.

Not sure if this has been posted already but word is that the Marquette court was set to be refinished over the summer and when it was transported the ratchet straps were pulled too tight. When the court was reasssembled it was all “wavy” and essentially ruined and had to be replaced. Don’t know any details about who was at fault or had to foot the bill for the new court.

Hmm I’d be interested to hear the version you were told if you're allowed to share. I heard from someone who is involved with the set up and take down of the bucks and Marquette courts at fiserv.
-
The court this year looks different from previous years. (See attached photos)
The stain in the lane is too light.
The gold is more muted.
The plain wood has more of a whitish tint.
I like the whitish tint to the plain wood but prefer the darker stain and brighter gold.

I don’t see why rushing would affect colors.

That sounds like a huge rookie mistake. Usually you put something on top of the panels and then ratchet down, so you don't squeeze the panels. Even if they didn't do it, it wouldn't damage all of the panels. Just the top ones.
I had to load and transport the old Denver Nuggets hardwood flooring I bought from Detroit to Illinois so it could be refinished and then to my facility and this story sounds fishy or those involved were complete idiots.

If that's truly the source, your story is probably more accurate.
I had heard that it was damage caused by the ice surface under the court.

When you are right on the floor itself, you can easily tell which boards they replaced. They did not replace the entire floor. I assume they will do a better job of matching them up in the off-season.

I heard from a very reputable source, that when the Bucks "stored" the floor, it was in a non-climate controlled area and put directly on concrete. The wood absorbed the moisture from the concrete. That is the reason they Warped ! ! ! Both the Bucks and MU floors are stored there in the off season ! ! ! Not in the Fiserv Forum ! ! ! 8-)

I heard the same. Improper storage led to exposure to humidity and subsequent warping.
-
Yep, improper storage, lack of temp control.
MU is playing on a new floor, paid for by the Bucks. It was a NCAA tourney site floor last year. Good vibes.

I have a background in manufacturing wooden products and this, by far, is the most logical answer. Concrete releases moisture many years after it is poured and kiln dried wood absorbs it like a sponge.

Considering we update our floor every so often, I guess the question becomes when do we see a new design for the court? We have had this design since 2014-2015, no? The previous one was in use from 2007?

Gotta be more careful where they parqu-et in the future.

Really good point. I would like to see a bad ass golden eagle in the center of the court, somewhat like the Jayhawk in the center of Kansas' court. The block letters MU are really boring. I would like Marquette to hire a top notch graphic artist firm.

Bucks spokesman, Woody Dicot, told me that a colony of beavers broke into the Bucks warehouse down by the Milwaukee River and did the damage. Because of COVID, the warehouse wasn't staffed.

They do the "MU" because they don't want to rev up the old "Warrior" controversy again. But honestly by the time they do an athletics rebrand, it will be more than time to move on.
And my guess is that anytime they do a rebrand, they won't be using in-house graphic design on that. D3 schools don't even do that these days.

Wow! So what's next? A Disney version of a golden eagle? Sheesh! Oh wait! We already have that. Our mascot.
I hope you are right about going outside of in-house graphic designers. It is simply good, basic business practice to get fresh ideas from an independent source. Even if we stay with the MU letters, can we please leave the 60's style chunky block letters behind and have something that is more aesthetically pleasing?

I doubt Marquette has used anything in house for athletic branding since the name change.

That's a hard not going to happen. You don't often rebrand a monogram.
When the Big East expanded there was a push for simple, bold monogram for all the schools. The only school that didn't clean up their primary monogram was DePaul. Instead they stuck with their busy Blue Demon shield.
It's terrific branding. More and/or is not better n this situation.

I'm actually a fan of lettermarks that are instantly recognizable, so I like the MU mark (and prefer it without the "Marquette" banner).

Agree. This is the best. I made a 3D wood version of it for my basement 7-8 years ago.

I think Marquette prefers to include the name since going with MU is still a struggle with Mizzou.

This is the best one, and I also like it without the wordmark.
I think what is strange about the court is that it doesn't tie in to our current uniforms (or any of the most recent ones. Font is different and (more irritatingly to me) the blues used are different. I'd much rather use Navy as the primary base than the royal blue.
-
I may be completely misremembering but I thought when the monogram logos debuted during the Gold name change, the one with the "Marquette" banner in front was to identify who this new logo belonged to with the long term goal being to go with the bannerless monogram once the logo was widely recognized.
I like the monogram. Wouldn't change it.

I'm aware, but I thought the end goal was for the bannerless logo to be the primary down the road.
(Cheap plug: I've recently added old Marquette logos to www.muoverload.com > Miscellaneous > Logos)
I enjoy that the monogram is similar to an MU used in the 60s. See attached photo.
-
I may be completely misremembering but I thought when the monogram logos debuted during the Gold name change, the one with the "Marquette" banner in front was to identify who this new logo belonged to with the long term goal being to go with the bannerless monogram once the logo was widely recognized.
I like the monogram. Wouldn't change it.
You are remembering correctly.
Having the school name in the logo is very mid-majorish. The MU in itself is excellent.

DePaul has doubled down on their logo, which is the worst in the conference by far. It's all over their athletic facilities now.

They doubled down ten years ago at this point it's tripled down or more. I had a depaul hat with roughly that logo in 2001
-
If they put a chicken on the court, I will not attend games.
-
Speaking of DePaul needing a long overdue rebrand, is Xavier ever going to drop the crappy X on the side of their shorts?

If you talk to X fans they think it's the coolest most unique thing ever

replacing Billy Blue Demon was a mistake. They released a limited number of Billy t's last year (I think I was told 400), one had to donate to buy it. They were gone within an hour. I thought the new AD would look to make a change, instead, he's gone even more all in.

I like it. It's unique to them as the only "X" school in D1.

Funny you mention that. I was at the last game and actually finally realized that "X" on the shorts is crossed swords. Am I last one to notice that?

I guess it is unique in that it doesn't match the rest of their jersey.

Billy Blue Demon could get a upgrade similar to the SH Pirate and look amazing.

I agree that the “ clean “ MU, without the Marquette written in front is FAR better ...
And ... I never noticed that the ( ugly )
X was swords

I love this logo and wish they'd go back to it.

Providence is not far behind. Their mascot is the only mascot that Marquette fans have any grounds to critique.

Me too. If there was going to be a Golden Eagle logo a modern version of that's fine by me.

How about St Louis? That thing is terrifying.

My wife mentioned it too and thought they just duct taped it on their shorts.

This is the correct logo, and a mid court of that like Kansas would be nice.

and what's hilarious about that is the current one was a redsign after the first "new" Billiken was met with massive disdain.

If they are going to call the Mascot Friar Dom, they should have just hired this one:

I actually met this guy at a trade show many years ago, dressed in his habit and staying very much in character as he walked around. He was hysterical! The guy could ad lib and really seemed to be having a great time interacting with the exhibitors and attendees, working with whatever subject or comments they made and coming back with witty replies.

My dad met him too, when he worked for Xerox.
Somewhere I have an autographed photo.

They should auction off the old floor in sections.

That’s a good idea. What else can you do with a warped floor? Might as well make some money.

Sure it's not a copy?

They should have done that with the Mecca floor. I suggested it. I would have bought a piece of that!

The X looks like a chromosome, and there's a joke in there somewhere.

+1
I wanted a piece of that floor, too!
-

LOL, it actually was a geniune signature on a Xerox color copy of his photograph.
Quite a technological marvel for the mid-70's.

OK, let's say we cannot vote for MU. I'm going with Georgetown. The worst? Easy. DePaul's big D. Boring!

The sad Husky is one of the best. Even better than Sad Pitt Bear--because this was actually used by the University

Agreed on Georgetown. The hat seals the deal.

Don't tell Willie about this.

The throwback UCONN Husky is pretty bad. It looks like someone tried to trace a picture of a dog and didn't know how to shade it properly.
-
The scarecrow as Musketeer is awfully bad as well
-
I love the 90s-ness of those SJU and Nova logos.
-
The sad dog UCONN logo is an institution and i love it

Nova logo is great. That thing was tailor made for a Starter jacket.

The fact that you both came up with that is pretty hilarious.
