Anyone else think we are ready for a change?
-
Yes. The checkerboard look is played out.
-
Defiantly, so many other schools have the look, high schools it's saturated.
-
It's time to bring back the bumblebees.

I knew someone would say that. No thanks we need
A new unique style.

Traditional is different. Always liked the 2001-2003 home version. Very Duke like.

How about black with roman collars.

Wat would that look like, I don't think black could be are main colors.

For the love of God, is it asking too much of you to do the most basic proofreading? My nun-educated brain wants to explode every time I read a post of yours!

Ouch - or did you mean to do that?

Does Dook have names on the back of the jersey? Not sure if they stitch them on later or just aren't doing names on the back of the jersey, but there were no names on the jersey in this video that MUTV put out today...

So, I guess maybe that's your update as far as jerseys go...

With the amount of transfers Buzz would have before the season even started, I'm guessing it's just university policy to hold off on the names as long as possible to save on expenses.

Ugh, that is what happens when you leave your reading glasses at work. I don't think Johnny B has that excuse.

Please tell me you did that on purpose.

I say keep the current jerseys and add polo collars onto them to be real trendsetters

Great idea. And instead of Air Jordans we should switch to Sperry Topsiders. We could have taken to the aircraft carrier deck with a vengeance with those while Ohio would have been slip sliding all over the place.

What video are you looking at? In the "Best Moments of Video Shoot" video all the players have their names on the backs of the jerseys.

As I recall the NCAA disliked the "Bumblebee" uniform & MU agreed to retire it.

Hah guess I didn't pay attention until the end when Luke's was missing from the back of his.

As I recall the NCAA outlawed the Bumblebees. So I agree with you that they indeed, did not like, the Bumblebees.
But the NCAA is losing power. Maybe we can engage in some brinksmanship with them. Say, bring back the Bumblebees and accuse the NCAA of sexism / racism / homophobism if they give us any grief.

I believe the reason they were outlawed was the refs said it was too hard to read the uniform numbers with that design.
I just don't want unis that say Golden Eagles instead of Marquette.

That was code for "Adolph Rupp didn't like Al."

Given how the university is currently marketing the athletic department (http://www.marquette.edu/omc/images/MU-Mono-BG.jpg), I wouldn't worry about that for a long, long time.

Bump
Kind of hoping we go back to the new uniform every year thing.

When was it every year? Maybe every 2 or 3 but every year seems excessive

As noted, banned for the "psychedelic effect" they had on opponents.

Oh, no,here comes another of "my brand of crazy" thoughts....Was it Public Enemy and Chuck D who wrote, "My 98 Oldsmobile?" Model #, not Year. Since MU is sure to up the tempo a bit, would it behoove our game day experience dj to honor the 98th season of Warrior hoops with a little ChuckD noise??...."smoke is comin' ...when I buuurn.. rubber when my wheeeels turn."

Given the era, are we sure it was the uniforms responsible for the "psychedelic effect".

Does that mean in 15-16 our theme song has to be 99 Luftballons

Banning the bumblebee uniform was the worst ever documented case of insect intolerant speciesism. Every time I hear of the declining population of honey bees in North America, I look for the hand of the NCAA.

It would be a clever way of saying "Our outside shoots don't seem to fall."

As long as they play the German version...I'll match and raise when Bucky is in town and urge everyone to Turn Around for the playing of "Der Commies-are in town, wha o OOO!!"

If it's anything like last year I think 99 Problems is more fitting

I remember being excited when we signed with Jordan Brand. However, the uniforms have gotten very stale.

At least you were a girl. Those Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia were downright nasty to the guys :-) !
-
As I recall...during the Al years didn't we get a new uniform (either home or way) every year. Tie in to McGuire's ties to Medalist?
-

I disagree, there's a reason why teams all over the country have copied our uniform.
Jordan is still the premier brand in basketball. Plus now that Jimmy MF Butler is signed up with Jordan (http://blog.champssports.com/jimmy-butler-speaks-on-passion-helping-children-and-best-air-jordans-collection/) that we should stick with the brand.
I'm hesitant to start advocating for a uni change because there's always a chance that we'll end up with a dud. Though looking back through history (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/the_marquette_jersey_project/start) I would say that we haven't had any duds.

Maybe it's time we do what the NBA is doing:

Have teams really copied or does Jordan brand only have one look?
I have thought from day one our current uniforms are duds, especially the hideous baby blues

When it originally came out it was in collaboration between Crean/Marquette and Converse. Jordan Brand wasn't even involved yet. It was a spin off of the look from our unis from 71 to 74: http://wiki.muscoop.com/lib/exe/detail.php/the_marquette_jersey_project/7174road.jpg?id=the_marquette_jersey_project%3Astart
There's a reason that everyone copied the look. It's because it was the freshest uni when it came out. It's just getting a little stale now.
-
I forgot about the converse involvement, at least we agree that it has gotten stale.
I still think our baby blues are only outdone on ugliness by whatever atrocity Adidas is rolling out, from the neon to the diapers.

I honestly feel that the baby blues are amongst the best looking uniforms in all of sports and even if they do change it up hope they are kept as an alternate

NO. If we are going to make a change, it should be to something unique and trend-setting again. I don't want to be Duke. I want to be Marquette.

It's really too bad that these days you pretty much need to go with a major company. For the most part, it's adidas, Nike, Under Armour, or nothing, and with the advent of AAU all of your recruiting is tied to which brand that is. Al's partnership with local distributors in the 1970s allowed us to have the freedom we did and led to some of the coolest designs CBB ever witnessed. You just can't do that anymore.
Juan Anderson designed the uniforms his high school team used and modeled them on Marquette. I always wished he would have had the chance to design a uniform here. Unfortunately, as the shoe companies have more influence, uniforms have become more, well, uniform. Even when we see new, different uniforms, it's not just one team wearing them, it's the 5-6 flagship schools for the brand.
The only way to stand out is if your biggest booster runs one of the shoe companies (cough, Oregon, cough). Otherwise, it's pretty much just fall in line.

Agree!!!
-
Nothing beats the Bumblebee psychedelic uniforms that hallucinated the opponents into submission. A close second would be Belushi on SNL with his bumblebee costume.

I am definitely not a fan of when teams wear those jerseys. Louisville can keep 'em.
-
As long as we aren't going the direction of their "Hare Jordan" line. That shizz is ridiculous.

crazy shoes are ok by me. A jersey like that would not be cool though.

If something like that was the side trim instead of the strips I'd like it.
