Title: I want Rick Pitino
Post by: Goose on March 28, 2014, 09:24:21 PM
The guy is simply the best IMO. For you younger guys he is a modern day Al and his style of play his off the charts. Anyone that hates him does for good reason because he flat out delivers the goods, much like Al.

Is this what Keefe meant when he said, "Aim high, Marquette"?

LOL Just wanted to say that Rick sets the standard in today's game and watching him brings back memories of Al to me. Love him or hate him he is  a stud. He has warts, but trust me so did Al. We just overlooked Al's because he was ours.

Mock away. The guy is best at his profession at this time, MU like Al was in his day.

Hmmmm.....  I would say that Donovan is better than Pitino at this point.  It's close, but what Donovan has done is unbelievable.

Somewhere buried in the threads someone said ""oh you mean Dave Pilipovich," the head coach at Air Force."  Made me laugh.

Agreed on Pitino.

he flat out delivers the goods

...then takes them away less than 10 seconds later.  :D

Agree with you though.

Big Donovan fan as well. Watching Rick work the court, his style, his dress all bring back great memories to me. Have said it for years, but in my IMO he is Al 2014.

hope he doesn't have the same plastic surgeon as mikey jackson.  if he pulls that facial skin any tighter, his eyes are going to close.  oh yeah, pretty good coach, but we do have to acknowledge our mortality at some point.  yes, i see a little bit of al there too.

Amazing coach.  One of my favorite MU games was the Louisville v. MU game in 2003 where Wade and Garcia put on an ubelievable show.  Definitely miss the old BE and watching UConn tonight reminded me of it.  Ah well, it is what it is and glad to be in the conference we are in.

4ever is a bit older than me and better MU historian and hope he comments on this thread. He likely holds Al higher than Rick, as do I, but a lot in common with these two cats.

He also loves the ponies which gets bonus points in my book.

Wasn't mocking, I was serious. I think he's the best college coach ever. I love him (as a coach).

What does MU have to offer to a coach like Pitino (or, more realistically, a coach who could be like Pitino)?

Whatever it is, they don't have it.

I started as an MU fan because of George Thompson  - but remained a fan because of Al. Even when Al did things that made you want to smack your head against the wall (starting Neary over Toone), he was always fascinating.

And he wasn't afraid to change. He ran a senior system, where the seniors were the stars and in the younger guys were role players, but wasn't afraid to change his entire concept when Bo Ellis came in as a freshman. Al hated playing freshman - he was the one who said the only good thing about a freshmen was that they became sophomores. But he wasn't afraid to question his own system.

There is less than 0% chance that Rick Pitino leaves Louisville for Marquette.
