When all of the backstories are told, he will be fine. The biggest problem with all of this is the leaking from the Athletic Department to guys who's job it is to disseminate the info. Plenty of others here know the entire story and are smart enough to just let it play out. Ganzer had a couple of guys telling him "done deal" because they thought it was a done deal. Agreeing in principal and signing on the dotted line are not the same. SS is the exact opposite of a knee-jerk kind of guy -- there are so, so many other issues that needed to be ironed out. When you all learn what went down -- regardless of which way it goes -- you will understand. I'm still blown away that somebody from the Dept. leaked that flight info to a twitter guy - just plain stupid. Certainly a fireable offense considering the stakes. Chill. It will all be over soon. And it will all make sense.

Good to know. Unfortunately, I don't wanna respect the process.. .i just want some info :)

Good post, but IMO you don't say "done deal" until you have confirmation that all of the i's (and lower-case j's) and t's have been crossed.  Even if someone said to him "IWB, lock it up, it's a done deal" he should have replied "so you saw him sign the contract?"

I understand IWB is not a journalist, and thus doesn't play by the some rules as a guy like Goodman, but for future reference, he's probably better off not stating "done deal" when it's not.
Fact is, IWB was trying to be first and got burned. It happens.

+1

"Done Deal" put all his credibility on the line (credibility with MU fans that he's built up over the years and which enabled him to start his own site)...he should have sought more assurances or proof before going forward with it if there was ANY chance it wasn't totally done (or was just "very likely" but not actually a "done deal").

I hope he's right .... but at this point, there's only one direction for his credibility to go, so why not double down.
I don't subscribe to his site, so I don't care much either way, but if I did pay for his insight, I'd sure expect some explanation when all this is done.
Exactly. The first phrase to come to mind when I saw that post from IWB was "double down."

I agree with you, with one exception.  IWB claims that none of his sources were within the Marquette Athletic Department.

Not sure if he is a journalist or not but he describes himself as having reported and been credentialed for many events, FWIW.  This is from the Brew City site:

Jim Ganzer, “IWB” – Jim Ganzer, or “IWB”, has been involved in the Milwaukee sports media for 10 years. Despite having played college football at Loras College, Jim's expertise is in college basketball recruiting where he has reported for organizations such as Rivals and Scout.com. While basketball recruiting may be his specialty, Jim has also done work analyzing NFL rookies for The Sporting News & Fox Sports. Jim has covered everything from high school & college sports to professional hockey, soccer, baseball, football and auto racing. Over the years Jim has been credentialed by the NCAA, Big East, Big 10, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, IndyCar and NASCAR. Jim is also the founder and Executive Director for the Scion Dental Milwaukee Summer Pro-Am, a summer basketball league for college and pro basketball players.

No question that IWB is legit, it was just a little bit of semantics that set off a firestorm. This too shall pass.

I think Ganzer is a good guy and would not have posted something so concrete unless he thought he had it nailed down tight.  I would not describe him as someone who would take a chance at being wrong, just to be first.  In the past he has been right on the money (recruiting info) and he would take a very cautious position with vague references "something good will happen soon" or "I'll be out of town..." (signifying something will happen).  When he came out and said "done deal" I had no reason to doubt he thought he had solid information.  Everything that followed relied, in part, to Ganzer's proclamation although Harv/Roy has denied Ganzer as his sole source.

Again, this information is only coming from recruiting specialists.  If it was true, why haven't other 'normal' journalists picked up the story on their own?  For me, that is the head scratcher.  With all the leaks out there, only Ganzer and Harv/Roy are getting the info?

Interesting times indeed...

I don't doubt IWB is a good guy, and I don't doubt he had a source he trusted telling him it was a done deal (though he cited himself as the source). And for all we know his source was right, or at least believed he was right. But when you make proclamations based on anonymous sources that turn out (possibly) wrong, the loss of credibility falls on you.

A clear case of premature hashtagulation.
