Not too mention a pissed off SH team because they couldn't/didn't close the deal on an outright BE title.

They shouldn't be any more pissed off than us. Unfortunately, they are a lot better than us.

I don't know about a lot...They just made everything in Milwaukee, I'd zone them more and make them make shots. And for the love of god Wojo do NOT let Bailey guard Mamu...not even for a possession.

I agree we should zone them for at least parts of the game. They did a great job of beating us by screening us at the bottom of the zone and lobbing it over the top to Gill. We just don't have the size to matchup with them and they will kill us on the boards if we zone all game.

I would also like to see 10 minutes of the small ball we saw at SJU. They are bigger than us regardless. But if we go small and either press them or zone them, I think we'll get a ton of open shots. Make Gill, Mamu, and Obiagu guard us on the perimeter. We wouldn't be able to stop them much with that lineup but it'd give us a chance to force the tempo/style of the game and force SHU to adjust to a style they haven't seen from us before.

Marquette looks to avenge a 2019 Big East tourney loss to Seton Hall that included three ejections, nine technical fouls and 85 free throws.  There were several heated verbal exchanges and a near brawl during the contest.  Other than that, it was just another ho-hum BE tournament game.  I'm sure both teams remember last year's nearly calamitous event quite well.

I know this is stating the obvious, but the key is ...please for once, start fast! It seems like ta the beginning of games, they are purposely working the ball around and getting a post touch and nothing seems "natural". Scrap that. First possession, let Markus pull up and shoot it..I don't even care if it's a bad shot..let it fly. he has started very slow the first five minutes of games as well..Whether that's by design or not, who knows, but usually once he makes his first, the rest of the team kind of calms down and settles in a bit. Just shoot it Markus..early and often.

God that game was awful. Watching theo get tossed for nothing, having an ejected Seton hall player come back.  I am still seething of markus launching that shot while Sam was sitting wide open.

I also might try some lineups with both Theo and Jayce in the game..That's also a look they haven't seen. Except at the end of the game with them in Milwaukee and it actually worked decently.

I was hoping we’d get that kind of desire for payback on Senior Day. Unfortunately that didn’t come through.

I'm fine with that too. Just show them something they haven't seen much of. Make Cale and Rhoden beat you over the top again. If they do, so be it.

Jayce was great against SJU Saturday, other than that ugly miss when he got himself too far under the basket.  Rebounding machine.  We started our comeback with him on the floor, but when he picked up his third foul he went to the bench never to return.  I want to see him more in whatever games we have left.

Does SHU still close off the entire upper level of the Rock, or have a decent number of fans actually started showing up for their games?

Have we magically figured out how to break a press?  Will 2nd half of ST Johns Sacar show up?  What is Chicos next user name?  These are the questions that trouble me.

Will it help our seeding if we can convince the tournament committee that it's a SHU home game?

The upper deck was full, except for the end zones which were curtained off, when we played there in early January.

I thought that too. The SHU defender hedges early on in the possession making the open look far from a certainty. And no way they had time to swing all the way to Cain for the baseline J.

...and, MU's high screener was pretty much right in between Markus and Sam.  Although Sam did have an open look, with that little amount of time on the clock, it's a really high-risk passing situation to get the ball to Sam.

So glad I've now watched Howard dribble at three seton hall players for the 8th time in my life. And then had scoopers say that it was a high risk to pass to someone.  :o

Markus was never going to pass the ball on that play.

But passing to Sam was going to be extremely difficult. Before Markus cut to his left, there was a Hall defender between Markus and Sam. After Markus goes to the left around Ed, there's no time to make the pass and the difficulty is made worse by the angle and more Hall defenders.

If Markus was going to pass, he should have stayed to the right of Ed and forced the defender to stop the dribble or guard Sam

I honestly wonder what went on in the huddle prior to that sequence?

This is probably right.  Difficult pass and do not forget Sam also missed 5 of his last 6 shots in the final 15 minutes.  Joey and Markus missed some free throws.

Only 2 ways we win this game:
1. Markus goes off.
2. Koby plays the offensive game we've waited all year for.

#1 is the likely the only possibility.
Am I the only one that still feels some sad glimmer of hope when Koby starts shooting..... that maybe, just maybe, they will fall?   There's no logical reason to think that, but it's still there.

Meh.

I think we need Markus to "go off" to beat pretty much any tournament-level team.  If Markus goes for like 15, I don't really like our chances against any decent or better team.

I think we need Sacar to play like he did in the 2nd half against St. John's.  And we're going to need offensive contributions from the supporting cast - Greg, Jamal, Koby, Jayce - whoever.  We aren't going to beat Hall if Markus goes off for 45, but everyone else is in single digits.

I think when Sacar looks back on his MU career, his biggest regret will be that he didn't play aggressive enough on offense.

For sure.  But the start of the this skid, Sacar couldn't buy a bucket and was shooting a decent amount, so I think he started to get gunshy.  But the guy can get to the bucket...we need the Sacar that slashes as opposed to the one that pulls up for long 2 point jumpers.  That dunk in the lane towards the end of the SJU game was a thing of beauty - keep that up Sac!

Do we really need Markus to go off? The guy is averaging 30+ during this collapse. For a while I was a “if Markus gets 30 we win” guy but that has proven not to be the case.

I’ll take Markus in the 20s and a couple other guys around 15.

Or Markus with 50. That should do the trick too

Yah, but who is even capable of getting 15 other than Sacar right now?  Maybe Greg and/or Jamal? But to put that in perspective, those guys have combined to score over 15 points a grand total of 1 time this season.

If Koby could some how some way, channel his inner Purdue, Wisconsin, Xavier self and We get the Sacar from the 2nd half of SJU, this team COULD be playing awhile yet. Now, the likelihood of those things happening is about .00001%, but there's a chance!

Why would anyone think that a 30 point game for Markus would be considered "going off"?  He's averaging 30 over at least the past 6-7 games, and 28 for the season.  30 for Markus is HIS AVERAGE GAME.  "Going off", I think, would have to be at least 40, maybe more.

Time for Cain to replace Koby in the starting line-up with Sacar at the point and Markus at the 2.   Don't give up any defense and definitely bring more energy.  Win the first 4 minutes.

Just pointing out that from a metrics perspective, SHU -2 is close to what the computer line is, so any fan impact or lack thereof doesn't seem to be impacting the line.
