No.  First, I don't think he makes last years team better (if we have to remove Jamil).  Second, he wouldn't be here on this years team where he could definitely had helped.

Was at the game. He dominated. Some nasty moves.

His team has a conference record that is identical to MU's.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Very interesting question.  I've seen DJ a number of times @ PSU, the kid just has a knack for scoring, and I think maybe a little tougher than Jamil was.  Jamil had more raw talent, Jamil has as much raw talent as anyone I've seen pass through MU.  The memory of Jamil having the ball in his hands on Senior Day last year against St. John's, their final possession of the game, down 1, and then passing to Derrick for a baseline J (who was open, but still, pass to Derrick?!) instead of looking to shoot, drive, whatever himself, was profoundly disappointing, and a bad lasting memory he left.

I'd go with DJ, but it's close.  We don't beat Davidson without Jamil's big shots late in that game.

So why is a thread like this found in The Superbar, but MU LaCrosse is STILL in the Al?!?!?!?  This is about an ex-MU men's basketball player after all, of which there are tons of other threads over in the Al of course.   Fricking stupid.

Good topic by the way muwarrior69 - interesting question raised.

DJ would have been gone this year, too, unless he took a redshirt at some point.   During Vander's junior year, could the two have coexisted?

I believe Newbill would have been at least as good as Jamil last season, and quite possibly better, especially given what our needs were.

However, if the idea is to advance as far as possible each year (and I think it is), it is hard to put forth a successful argument to say we would have been better in 2013 with a DJ-Vander combo as opposed to the Jamil-Vander combo that helped us to the Elite 8.
