Funny, during the season Hunt rarely had more than a couple articles a week, and now that the season is over he is pumping them out like crazy.

I can't imagine Buzz wanting to coach in the NBA, or for that matter, an NBA team wanting to hire him.  I don't think his methods would be successful if he was coaching a bunch of pampered millionaires.

Maybe he was referring to assistant coaching jobs? I can't imagine that either

Leaving Marquette has done wonders for Tom Crean, as well as Kevin O'Neill.  Crean is on the hot seat at Indiana (because, you know, it's Indiana) and O'Neill has jumped around more since he left than the jump-around guy, Rick Smith.

I honestly don't know what kind of job Buzz would take that would make him leave Marquette.  He's been courted by so many teams across the country.  Perhaps he really is happy at Marquette...

Not sure as to why you are surprised that Mike Hunt got his  facts wrong.  Happens all the time.

Buzz's coaching style, commitment to making his players better men, and Buzz's bunch is utterly incompatible with the NBA.

hunt is lazy...but i'd bet that statement is true if i had to put money on it.  who knows what type of nba job it was...but you're not going to just make that sh!t up or get your facts wrong.  especially if you don't like buzz, as many believe...

But the thing is he gets his facts wrong in literally every single article he writes.  Even when it is a 3 sentence article.  On the rare occasion he actually wrote something other than a game preview the day of a game or a game review the day after a game (say a feature article about one of the players on the roster) he would say "Marquette plays Creighton at home on Saturday."  Well, we would be playing Villinova that Saturday.  I literally think Hunt just writes whatever is in his head without double checking to see if it's true, and why wouldn't he when clearly the Journal doesn't edit his stuff and doesn't care if his facts are wrong.  It is absolutely brutal.  There is absolutely no way that Buzz has turned down NBA jobs without SOMEONE knowing about it.

If he did turn a job down, someone does know about it. But your statement seems to be saying that someone on Scoop would know about it. Just wondering why you think that is the case.

I just think there would've been some sort of public rumor that "The Celtics are considering hiring Buzz Williams" before a decision was made or "Buzz Williams turned down the Celtics" would've been rumored somewhere in the media after Buzz turned them down.  In this day and age, it is nearly impossible for a professional organization in the NFL, NBA, MLB, or even NHL to make an offer to a coach and not have it wind up in the media somewhere.

The difference is that Mike Hunt can pick up the phone and speak with Buzz Williams. I'll bet Buzz even calls Mike Hunt on occasion. I would say the entire population of Scoop lacks that access. And if one were to get through Buzz Williams isn't talking about anything but the weather or BBQ with a Scooper.

I get what you're saying and you're right for the most part, but Buzz hates Hunt and doesn't give him anything he's looking for.  It's funny that Hunt had to add into his latest article that Buzz had not returned his call.  That's how it goes for Hunt.

You're probably right - but I think there are also a lot of calls just gauging interest and finding out if a guy wants to make himself available. My guess is that reporters don't usually know about this unless it is advantageous for one side or the other ($$$) to put it out there.

Alright, I wasn't going to read his piece but the NBA citation piqued my interest. My thinking is that Mike Hunt is very specific. And despite what people here may think, he is a credible journalist so I think he knows better than any of us that Buzz was offered but turned down an NBA position. The only problem I see is he doesn't specify what type of position (i.e. head, asst, janitor...)

I know people love to bash the media but I refrain from doing so as a free, impartial, and independent press is our surest defender of liberty. Ever since Ben Franklin began publishing the Pennsylvania Gazette it has been the free press that has informed and enlightened the public while holding others accountable. I won't comment on the content, because I don't know what is true and what isn't. All I know is that was a terribly written piece. I could have done better as an underclassmen...in high school.

Unless Buzz just flat out hates working at Marquette (99% sure he doesn't), there is no logical reason that USF is even considered.

Nothing to see here.

If you listen to Homer's radio show and then read Hunt's articles you quickly realize that Hunt has ZERO access to Buzz.  He merely quotes what Buzz says on the Radio or in the post game interview... with Homer.

I think we can safely assume that there's no difference in the off season.

I am getting to the point where I believe we will survive whether or not the article is true. That is why I think articles such as these are just garbage. We have no control over what people wish to do, stay or go. If Buzz likes MU by all means stay he has many positive qualities. But if he does not like it here then move on. We do not need a dissatisfied coach. I find it hard to believe MU is a bad place to work. I can believe at the top coaching is very difficult by nature but moving will not solve that.

Back on topic from the political squabble, Hunt writes that he wouldn't be surprised if the South Florida job "intrigued" Buzz. Normally, a writer would add two or three nuggets after that as to why the job would be intriguing. Hunt didn't write anything.

Can we have a link to that quote. I have a sneaking suspicion Cronkite never said that. But he did say:

“I think being a liberal, in the true sense, is being nondoctrinaire, nondogmatic, non-committed to a cause - but examining each case on its merits. Being left of center is another thing; it's a political position."

"I don't see Auburn as a good fit for Williams because of the low profile of Auburn basketball. It is also a place where coaching careers go to die. But the guy does enjoy a challenge."

Thanks, A-hole. Guy has such a good pulse on Buzz and the program. Knew Otule was getting a 6th season only 2 months after it happened.  ::)
