The kiss was unnecessary in an otherwise solid showing. As a standalone, I greatly enjoyed this movie.

In the trilogy, I felt there were some threads not pursued that left something to be desired (Finn, for one, didn't really get the ending his character deserved). Snoke felt rushed, underdeveloped, then cast away. All in all, it felt like JJ was trying to clean up TLJ - for better or for worse - and ran out of time.

Absolutely, there needs to be an architect. It doesnt have to be a map or some sort of ornate plan but someone(emphasis on single person) needs to own the overall vision.

In the OT, GL wandered all over the place and planted seeds who grew (there is another) and planted seeds he ignored(Luke/Leia love interest) but he was the singular visionary that brought it all together. Say what you will about the PT but it was still a singular vision(that's largely hampered by GL having yes people instead of strong creatives that could curb his worst instincts) and it collectively makes sense.

The ST is ultimately memorable but it wont be loved simply because it doesnt hang together.

Side note, if Kathleen Kennedy isn't removed/promoted/retired by some time this spring I would be totally shocked. She has royally f'ed the pouch.

I'm dumb, I watched Mando episode 7 the other night, and just got back from this movie. What was the tie in?

I thought the movie was good, pacing was very well done, which made a big difference.

They wanted to make force healing Canon before showing it in the movie multiple times.

 I'm speculating, obviously. But if they introduced force teleportation (objects moving between force users - necklace, saber) and force healing in the same movie, I think it would have been met with incredulity, seeing as how those powers were instrumental to the plot.

I didn't hate Rise of Skywalker, it certainly wasn't the bottom of the Star Wars barrel, but other than the opening credits, it never had that magical Star Wars feel that made me feel like I was 6 years old at Mill Road Theatre again.

I really hope from here they go 500 years into the future or past and just leave all the characters we know behind. I want no further association with this timeline. It just feels too disjointed from the original three.

Saw it yesterday.  Agree that it was not magical, but it was OK.  Lots of forced dialog.

I didn't think the Carrie Fisher stuff was bad. They at least did less than they did of Grand Moff Tarkin and were smart to show shots from behind.

I'd argue that the Carrie Fisher stuff might have been the most impressive parts of the film.  They had limited shots and dialogue to work with and they managed to write a script around those shots that didn't feel totally forced.  Going in, we all knew that she had passed and that the footage was re-used, but I don't think someone who doesn't know about Carrie's death would have any idea.

The stupid healing force is driving me crazy. We're going to say that Ray could do this with very minimal training and certainly not the best training out there. But Obi Wan who was training since birth couldn't do that to save qui-gon?

The kiss annoyed me.

Leia as a Jedi annoyed me (though not as much as flying through space did in TLJ).

Luke grabbing a light saber out of the air when he's a force spirit annoyed me.

I am nowhere near a Star Wars geek, but I can't stop thinking about the "Chewy is dead... no he isn't" plot line.  4 days later, it still annoys me.

The trailers had shown Chewie flying with Lando.  That had not yet happened in the movie, ergo it had to be a red herring.

If anyone thought like me that the magic of Star Wars was gone, watch the final episode of Mandalorian. Absolutely magnificent.

There were plot holes, silliness, wild leaps of faith, a few things that made no sense, etc. But the same could be said about stuff in even the Star Wars movies that I absolutely loved.

I mean, in A New Hope, why didn't the Death Star just blast the moon out of the way and then pulverize the planet? There! Movie over in about an hour, and no sequels necessary!

For me, TROS was fun, magic-filled fiction. It was escapism. I like Rey. I like a few other characters.

The silly stuff -- like nobody effen dying, or like Leia floating through space in TNJ -- I don't get too bent out of shape about it. It's a movie. And this trilogy was head and shoulders better than the first one. I strongly disliked most of what I saw in those 3, but I nonetheless still didn't come away "annoyed." I just said they weren't very good and moved on. They made me appreciate the original trilogy more.

And finally, the kiss certainly didn't annoy me at all. If I hadn't known it was in the movie, I would have missed it.

Feels about right.  The movie was fun.
JJ was obviously trying to bring everything full circle good, bad or otherwise.
If I didn't see articles saying how the kiss was pulled from some international releases I would have missed.
I will have to see again because I think I missed a lot of time ins and Easter Eggs.

1. Rey is VERY powerful. As evidenced by the rock movement. And Luke's acknowledgement of said power.

Obi wan also went through structured Jedi training, unlike Rey. And also may not have been nearly as powerful.

3. Leia is a strong Jedi in the expanded universe.
