Talking about letting the Big 3 just play, Crean says "Bill Russell said something last summer that made so much sense to me. He said, 'When you have great players, you don't want to take things away from them. You want to add to their games.' I try to coach with that mind-set. I don't know if it's a leap of faith as much as it is maturity on my part."

I love how Crean gives himself a nice pat on the back there...good thing humility isn't as important for coaching!   :D

Still, this is a great article, and gives some good insight into how the players are really taking ownership in the program, and how Crean is empowering them to do so.  From a student development standpoint, this will help them so much--both in basketball and in the rest of life.

That's also terrific insight from Bill Russell. How could we all have missed the fact that you don't want to take things away from great players?
