Burke's Height
« on: December 08, 2008, 06:31:57 PM »
Buzz just said on his radio show that Dwight Burke is only 6-6 1/2, not 6-8 as officially listed. I didn't think he was really 6-8, but wow--a starting center in the Big East who isn't even 6-7. Talk about playing out of position! A small forward playing center. I wish MU fans would give him a break. Burke always seems to play hard and does the best he can against some pretty tough odds.

I think this is just standard practice for most teams to inflate the heights of their players or give their "with shoes" heights.  I am 5-9 or 5-10;  I routinely walk past DJ and he is at least an inch shorter than me.  He is listed at 5-11.

James was officially measured at 5'10.5" without shoes and 5'11.75" with shoes during the Pre-Draft camp two years ago.  Not saying some aren't inflated, but DJ is not as short as people think.

The most glaring example of people inflating heights at MU was Robert Jackson.  He was listed at 6'10, but measured at 6'7.75" without shoes and 6'9.25" with them.

Did RJax wear heels?  1.5 inch soles on basketball shoes - nice

But RJax had some long arms! Longer than Burke stubby ones!

But even with his heels and long arms, he rarely dunked for a big man.
