Marquette men's basketball picked sixth in Big East

The Big East released its preseason coaches poll and all-conference teams on Wednesday morning ahead of the league's media day at Madison Square Garden.

How would Ellenson be second team all conference and not rookie of the year? Also could someone explain the points ranking to me?

Because it's a meaningless pre-season poll and logic doesn't apply.

It means that none of the other coaches are ready to anoint this freshman class.    Based on what MU has returning and a normal rate of return from the frosh, this is a fair assessment.

What I like is that the coaches see a notable drop off between the top 6 and the remaining 4, and that MU is on the right side of that division. Indeed, only 11 points separates Xavier in 4th and MU in 6th, while Seton Hall is 17 points behind MU in 7th.

Here's hoping that MU ends up in the top 6, and if there is a gap between 6th and 7th, well just maybe the BEast can get 6 teams into the tournament!

I think Creighton will surprise a lot of people. I also think Providence will disappoint a lot of people.

I think this team has a chance to be the surprise team in the country, not just the BE. My expectations are much higher than being #6 in the BE. With Luke and Henry I see our little guys scoring a ton and much coming off a fast break. My breakout guy is Luke and am expecting a great season from him. I think Wilson is going to light it up.

I did.   So did the coaches as a scouting tool.    They looked at what was coming back and assumed normal progress from the frosh.    MU finishing higher than that is predicated with the freshmen being big contributors immediately.    I think they may, but I am not willing to bet my house on it.

I think the outsiders are underrating Fischer.
The insiders (MUscoopers) are overrating Carter.
Having said that I think we finish in the 3rd to 5Th range.
Of course who wins the close games will be the deciding factor. Losing two straight OT games at home last year really hurt. Georgetown by Carlino's foot barely touching the three point line and blowing a 10 point lead to Butler.

I think the rating is more than appropriate.  However if those are expectations this year -- I'm buying.  Even Wojo admitted we are better than our schedule in one of those interviews....think the quote was something along the line of "schedules were set far in advance and we didn't know we had player X & Y when we did that".

I agree on both of your comments. I think Luke is going to have a very, very big year. I am in wait and see on Carter at this point.
