Best time of the year. I'll be sitting on my ass for the better part of 12 hours today so I figured I'd start a thread if any others are doing the same.
Here's to a perfect bracket.
-
Right there with you. Took the next two days off work with no obligation other than watching hoops. Best sports time of the year.
But I’ll gladly exchange a perfect bracket for a Warrior run!
-
Best 4 days of basketball especially with our warriors playing! GO MARQUETTE
-
45 more minutes of work and my last client is "cancelled"
-
Absolutely. Greatest sports weekend of the year with no close second. It's a beautiful thing!
-
A 10-seed (Minnesota) getting almost a home game (Des Moines).
Maybe not quite as egregious as 7-seed (S. Carolina) actually getting a home game in 2017, but right up there.
-
Man, nothing better than when the CBS college basketball music hits at 11am. The benefits of having a job where you work out of a home office comes through strong today. Texted my wife “don’t ask me for anything until Monday”.
-

Except when you`re on the west coast and it starts at 9am!!!
Been out west two of the last three tournaments. Certainly makes those 10pm east coast tip times more palatable!!
-
Amir looking good.

Couldn''t agree with you more, Brother Dish.
Working from Southern Command in Florida today until it's WARRIOR TIME!!!
Southern Command goes dark at 16:30 eastern.

I'll trade you! Those after 10 pm starts are brutal for this old fart.

That is a regular request from my wife to me.

They* say that the tournament doesn't officially start until you miss a pick on your bracket. It's looking like Minnesota might be getting it started early for me.
*And by "they," I mean me. I said that. I made that up. Just now.

Me too although Murphy being hurt could change this game
-
Minnesota just thrashing Louisville now. Up 16 with 10 to go. Game is over.
-
I've watched the Gophers 3-4 times this year on tv, I haven't seen them shoot like this at all, totally different team today.

Yeah this is a very unpredictable game right now
-
Yale making a run.
Go Vermont!
-
Florida states lengeth is killing Vermont right now. 3rd jump ball in the first 5 minutes.
-
Critical UL 3-pointer being reviewed against shot clock vs. Minn. Every bit as close as Sam's vs. Creighton.
-
Early still, but FSU looks like they're asleep, especially on offense.
-
Offense has been their problem
-
Not a fan of our broadcast team.
-
Tony Benford coaching LSU.
-
What’s with the short nets? I hate that, keep waiting for a ball to get stuck, so 70’s.
-
I feel like New Mexico St/Auburn has been at the half for three hours. I'm not complaining as it's easier to watch the other two games at once.
-
Well, Florida St. certainly looks beatable.
-
They* say that the tournament doesn't officially start until you get your first correct pick on your bracket. Thanks, LSU.
*You know.
-
Not a fan of our broadcast team.
Nobody really is. Yet, no anger ever comes there way. They will be fine. No ego's.

I gotta be honest I don’t know what that means lol
-
I gotta be honest I don’t know what that means lol
I mean you have probably the most talked about 1st round match up of the tourney..Morant vs. Howard. A game that will end the first session of the day at all sites, so they will have some TV time all to themselves...and they assign a crap broadcast team?? WTH??
-
Sitting at a table in the hotel lobby before the pre-game, and this is what I overhear next to me from a guy who is obviously on a conference call for work:
(Paraphrasing) “Sorry about the noise in the background, evidently there’s some sort of Final Four thing going on at the hotel here today, so i apologize if things get louder.”
A Marriott lobby in a first round host city a few hours before the games start and you expected quiet? Rookie move, outside sales guy.
-
I gotta be honest I don’t know what that means lol
Carter Blackburn, Debbie Antonelli has been one of the eight teams the last couple of years for CBS/Turner. They are the 8th team. Most fans don't dislike them, while also not a fan of them. Just meh. Average. Solid. No mistakes.

Well, there not crap. Please. Yet, teams #7 and # 8 are normally sent out west.
-
Well, Florida St. certainly looks beatable.
I hope we don't: look beatable. I hope we hit 7 3s in our first half.
-
A little something from my favorite chart-maker, Matt Shirley:
-
I really like Reggie Miller and the team with him, Harlan and Bonner.
Bunch of snooze games so far, maybe FSU falters or something.
Auburn holding up well. SEC vs WAC and New Mexico St has like a 20 game winning streak. Just like Murray St, long winning streak in the OVC.

As an outside sales guy, I lol'd hard at this.

I'm not jinxing us or anything by any means, but watching this Florida State game, I feel like if we played them, we'd either win by 20 or they'd win by 20, and there's no in between.
-
Words can't describe this NMSU/Auburn finish.
-
Words can't describe this NMSU/Auburn finish.
Incredible.
-
NMST Pg not knowing what the score is with 5 seconds left is best play of the ncaa tournament.
-
Wow. New Mexico State passed up a wide open lay up to tie. Pass it out for a three and Auburn fouled the shooter. Made only 1 of 3.
-
Auburn in full mental masturbation mode. Up 7 with 56 to go. Turnovers, missed free throws, fouling at wrong time, gives up a three as opposed to fouling, then just fouled guy on a three with two seconds left. Poor NMS guy then misses two of three free throws to tie or go up one. Auburn holds on
5 vs 12.
-
Wide open three. Air ball.
-
That was something else, my god.
-
Ouch, full body weight of that dude went right onto Nichols ankle.
-
NMST Pg not knowing what the score is with 5 seconds left is best play of the ncaa tournament.
Excruciating mistake. FSU taking control
-
BRIAN WARDLE
-
Stupid Vermont...missing too many damn FT's...Ugh.
-
Vermont has made just terrible offensive decisions these last 4-6 minutes, awful turnovers, over passing, poor shot selection.
-
Neither team has been impressive

Came on here to say the same exact thing...If that was Theo or Sacar they would have been banned from the NCAA
-
That Auburn/NMST ending was nuts. Never seen anything like it. Auburn tried so hard to lose that game but a mental mistake spares them them from an early trip home
-
MU game should tip approx 3:45 pm CST at this rate.
-
Just give up Vermont
-

NMST with 3 free throws to win. Misses two. Miss goes out of bounds off Auburn.
NMST with 1.1 seconds to get a shot, gets an open look from the corner... airball.
-
Auburn finish was insane!!!! One of the wilder games in recent memory.
-
I hope to age as well as Leonard Hamilton has.
-
Anyone see the "player in a vulnerable position" foul called on Matt McQuaid of Michigan State? Refs called it a Flagrant 1....though I have to admit, it was even softer than the call on Theo
-
Izzo pissed at one of his players for something.
-
And now another player has to hold Izzo back from screaming at one of his own players. Wonder what that was about.

saw that. thought it was the right call as the michigan state guy had his feet taken out. lucky he didn't get injured
-
Izzo looked like he was going to murder that kid.
-
Phil and his basket weaving has already gotten unbearable
-
Nice short segment on Markus.
-
Lot of Bradley fans in Des Moines
-
Hard not to love Markus. A talent on the court and off
-
How did Bradley get a game so close to home as a 15 seed?
-
Or Minnesota as a 10?
-
Or Minnesota as a 10?
Don't forget Cincinnati as a 7 in Columbus...which comes even more into effect if they win first game.
-
Iowa knocks out Cincinnati. 6 or 7 years in a row UC can't make it to the 2nd weekend.
-
Virginia down the biggest all season. 30-16.
-
I expect they will come back, but if they don't, how will that affect the Bennett love? The guy who made history twice?
-
UC Irvine on a 15-2 run. Up 59-51.
-
If Virginia loses this game, and the hysterical scoopers here are consistent, then everyone here should expect Virginia to immediately fire Bennett and not even offer him a ride back home.
-
Even if they lose, still a good season for Virginia?
-

Not according to the fine minds on this board with less than 100 posts. They think college basketball has a five month pre-season. Bennett would end 2018-2019 at 0-1 for the second year in a row and need to be fired.
See nothing else matters except for tourney wins.

If you lose to a 16 seed 2 years in a row and are the only team in the history of the tournament to lose to a 16, Yes he should get fired and probably will.
-
Colgate getting smoked early on, has comeback to take it's of the game.

Is it mathematically possible to only play double digit seeds to the championship? If so, it would happen to them.
When they made the FF didn't they play multiple double digit seeds or was that a different year?
-

One of my managers went to Colgate, she is beaming right now.

Does Wojo have a 90% winning percentage playing in one of the best 2 conferences in basketball the last few years? Not exactly an apples to apples comparison.
-
This Buffalo team is fun to watch and very talented and well-coached.
-
Anyone see the "player in a vulnerable position" foul called on Matt McQuaid of Michigan State? Refs called it a Flagrant 1....though I have to admit, it was even softer than the call on Theo
They’ve been calling that kind of play a Flagrant 1 in the NBA lately, I don’t agree necessarily given how easy it is to accidentally get in that position defending a shot.
-

If you're thinking of 2000, they beat #1 Arizona (riddled with injuries) and #4 LSU and #6 Purdue.
In 2013 they beat a 7, 6 and 1
In 2014 they beat 8, 4 and 2. Like us in 2003, they played the highest possible seed.
-

except it really doesn't.

Lots of fun watching the games knowing we will be the only top 5 seed to get completely blown out of the water in the first game. :) just humiliating
-
Quack quack eh?

I guess TB’s job is safe, aina?

Too bad Colgate couldn't pull it off.
Would have been their brush with greatness.

Is it mathematically possible to only play double digit seeds to the championship? If so, it would happen to them.
When they made the FF didn't they play multiple double digit seeds or was that a different year?
You're remembering the start to Bo Ryan's career. In his first year, he beat 9th seeded St. John's. After that, he only beat double-digit seeds from 2003 through 2008:
2003: Beat 12 Weber State, beat 13 Tulsa, Lost to 1 Kentucky
2004: Beat 11 Richmond, Lost to 3 Pittsburgh
2005: Beat 11 Northern Iowa, beat 14 Bucknell, beat 10 NC State, Lost to 1 North Carolina (Elite 8 & beat no single-digit seeds)
2006: Lost to 8 Arizona
2007: Beat 15 Texas A&M Corpus Christie, Lost to 7 UNLV
2008: Beat 14 Cal State Fullerton, beat 11 Kansas State, Lost to 10 Davidson
So in 6 NCAA trips, they went 9-1 against double-digit seeds & 0-5 against single-digit seeds. Two Sweet 16s and an Elite 8 without ever beating a single-digit seed. That changed when they beat Florida State in 2009 (12 over 5) & Bo had much greater success against good teams later in his career, but for a long time, single-digits were Bucky kryptonite.
-
Buffalo is my new adopted team (although I am afraid to jinx them). The MU-BUF game was one of my favorites of the year, not just from a B&G perspective. They are fun to watch.

Oats is a hell of a coach. Wonder if he’d want to come home someday?

Ducks tied at 25 with UW at half.

Happ was out.of bounds before saving that

All kinds of bad calls. Both ways.

Bucky down 12 with 4:14 to play
Getting close to starting Happ’s European career

yes. 4 in a row, 2 for the badgers, 2 against..

Dr. B
I thought Buffalo was the best team we beat this season. I enjoyed the game and agree with you.

Bucky now down 19 with 2 to play. Same margin as us.

Same. Buffalo, before yesterday, was the best passing team I saw all year.
-
This makes us the best team in the state of WI. Hang a banner!
-
Bye Bye Wiskey. Bye Bye Happ, great college player, but had enough of him. 5 for 28 from three won't get it done.
Oregon has athletes who slash very effectively. Could have been much better with Bol Bol.
-
#5 Bucky loses by 18
#5 MU loses by 19
#4 Kansas State loses to #13 Cal-Irvine. They are coached by Bruce Weber, who is from Milwaukee.
This is starting to look like the “x-cub jinx” (the team with the most x-Cubs loses)
-
Thanks Oregon for a tiny bit of polish on this giant turd of a weekend.
-
Seeing Oregon about 10+ times, had Bill Walton in my head. Kenny Wooten, through it down! One time. Quack. Quack. Conference of Champions. ;D

And Louisville was routed by Minnesota. Outside of Buffalo (who I think was playing their 3rd road game in 6 days and ran out of gas down the stretch) those signature wins from December don't look so great.
-
Lenny
We beat one good team this year and that was Buffalo. The other wins were nice in paper, but not signature wins.

The B1G must be a mid major as well.
-
Cannot celebrate a win for Falwell U.

Another 5 seed going down. 3/4, just like when our Golden Eagles were a 5 in 2002.
You all still want Howland?

MSU did not score a field goal in last six minutes. Sound familiar?
Another 5 falls, that’s three of them.

Auburn was lucky to win as a 5

Their AD covered up the biggest rape scandal in college athletics history at his previous school and Liberty’s president didn’t care and hired him, sweeping it under the rug. Then both hired a dirty football coach fired for not jus rampant cheating but also using state money to call escort services and he lied about it.

I said before the tournament started Buzzard had a cake walk to the Sweet 16 and that remains true. Would laugh if Liberty knocked them off, but very unlikely.

Yup, and my best man had to go to Baylor to clean it all up. That said, I don't hold it against the kids at Liberty on the current team. A bunch of them on the team before this guy was even hired.

Buzz up 22 at halftime. Wojo blown out of the gymin the tournament. Again.
Which coach had his team better prepared to compete? You play the team the committee assigns you to play. Be thankful we didn't have to play V Tech. It would have be even uglier than the game against the mid major.
-
Facts
He didn’t make the tourney one year, ergo he’s not a good coach. You really sound pathetic.
-
Be thankful we didn't have to play V Tech. It would have be even uglier than the game against the mid major.
Perhaps, but I'd happily have played SLU instead. Of course, that could have been an option if MU won more games.

Wojo going up against the 43rd ranked team with likely the #2 pick in the NBA draft
Buzz going up against the 104th ranked team with absolutely no one that will ever sniff a NBA roster ever.
Despite MU and VA Tech being only 1 line different. That's how absurd the seeds are. Meanwhile, why didn't Buzzard have his team ready last year and the year before when they were knocked out both times? Weird.
-

Being a 4 is as good as being a 6, avoid 5 at all costs.
-
I've watched quite a few games these past three days, but have any of you Scoopers recognized any Big East officials in these NCAA games? I have seen one in Dayton, but many in the NIT games. Let's hope these stripes didn't grade out and a message has been sent to Stu Jackson in NYC.

That's right - Buzz made the NCAA tournament 3 times in a row - first time ever in awful V Tech's basketball history. Winning is hard there. Meanwhile, at basketball rich MU, Wojo "streak" of making the tournament stands at one, tying his previous record. There was improvement, though. Only lost by 19. Only other time it was 20.
-

5 seeds record in 1st and 2nd round games is better than any lower seed. The facts say the higher your seed the better your chances.
-
Big Ten goes 7-1 in first round. The one loss??? Lol.
-
Watching LSU, I can't help but think "why are they even here?" All their accomplishments will be vacated. Wade will be fired & jailed, the season will be vacated, it's a certainty. I know with Louisville, Syracuse, Memphis, etc there's the "but no one forgets the games" but in those cases we didn't know in the moment what would happen. Here we know exactly what will happen. Especially while they are still playing the player that took money from the coach. Just ridiculous.
-
What a game. Mays and Waters are tough.

What a game. Mays and Waters are tough.
Waters went to my high school for his senior year. He was heavily recruited and I have no idea why he picked LSU from Connecticut.
-
5 seeds record in 1st and 2nd round games is better than any lower seed. The facts say the higher your seed the better your chances.
First two rounds, don't know...but overall, that is not correct. As I stated, better to be a 4 seed or a 6 seed than a 5. Very linear pattern until you get to the 5 seed and again the 10 & 11 seeds, the only outliers in the data.
You have as good a chance or better as a 9 as you do a 10 or 11. You have a BETTER chance of winning as a 6 than a 5.
Data below is BEFORE this year's tournament, and since 3 of the 5's already lost, it only gets worse.
Overall tournament record of #1 seeds: (503-137) 78.6%
Overall tournament record of #2 seeds: (357-153) 70.0%
Overall tournament record of #3 seeds: (273-155) 63.8%
Overall tournament record of #4 seeds: (231-158) 59.4%
Overall tournament record of #5 seeds: (180-160) 52.9%

Waters went to my high school for his senior year. He was heavily recruited and I have no idea why he picked LSU from Connecticut.
$ame here. $eriou$ly, what'$ $o appealing about L$U?

It's not Connecticut?

Making it to the Second Round not withstanding I sure am glad we didn’t have play FL State. I think we would have gotten blown out😝
Too soon?
-
Watching Murray play FSU is frustrating because it feels we really could have beaten Murray today. Offensively, the non-Ja's are missing what they hit against us (at least it feels that way; don't know the stats.) Their big boy looks a step slow, not the stud we couldn't do anything about. Obviously, FSU defense has something to do with those. Not helping as much off Ja, let him get points instead of getting everyone else involved. Way more active, and their never-ending wingspans help with that.
Offensively, FSU making the shots we couldn't hit, but also way more movement. Feels like we needed Sacar to do more there. When he's slashing, things loosen up for us. Didn't happen Thursday.
-
Florida St is much bigger than most teams in all positions. Best scorer coming off the bench, impressive. They are letting Morant get his points, but has few assists as they barely doubled him, MU big mistake on D.
-
I agree, Murray not playing as well against FSU. FSU seems longer and more athletic than MU. Maybe a telling stat is Ja has 3 assists so far today with 11 plus minutes left.
-
March Madness, this is March Blowouts. Really only like two close games in three full days.........
-
Nova getting hammered. Big east looks like trash this year
-

Little more than two games, but I see your point. These I believe came down to the final minute or two.
Belmont/Maryland
Iowa/Cincinnati
Maryland/LSU
New Mexico State/Auburn
Wofford/Kentucky
Liberty/Miss State
Ohio State/Iowa State

Today is crazy bad. I was feeling bad about the Big East blowing a tire but then I see all these other teams from other conferences getting absolutely t-bagged.
-
i might sound crazy but after watching purdue trounce nova, id take carsen edwards over howard on my team any day
-

When Edwards is on, he's great. But when he's not, yeesht.
-
There have been a ton of blowouts and/or games that have not been close at all. Looking at the data, the average margin of victory in games played thus far is nearly 14 ppg. I have turned off more games than I can remember due to the lack of competition. There have only been four games that were decided by one possession, which is IMO, shocking. By my count, there have been 20 games deciding by 15 points or more. I'm not sure how this compares in other years, but would not be shocked if it was higher than usual.
-
I have to take back all my complaints of Markus not getting fouls called after what Tacko just did to Zion with no foul called
-
UCF win would give BUZZARD an open path to the Elite 8.
-
Shot clock violation, that ball didn't hit....never changed rotation.
-
I've never seen Duke get the short end of many calls

Looks like it grazed flat part if any thing?
And now Duke gets an and 1. A miss and put back. Wow

Crazy game.

Heartbreaker
-
zion bowls over 2 defenders and no call
-
Heartbreakering. I feel for the UCF players. CBS just took a deep breath.
-
I've never seen Duke get the short end of many calls
Brutal push off by Barrett on the rebound.
The potential winner off the rim just like Wake game.
-
Coach K was speechless.
-
They got two calls after I said they weren't getting calls
-
zion bowls over 2 defenders and no call
Zion was hacked 5 minutes earlier and no call...Fall brings his arms down, not vertical so that is a foul. That ball also didn't hit the rim. UCF had alley-oop which they missed, big bucket missed there.
-
Wow. Better to be lucky and good.
Oh, and just another choke-job by another former Dookie assistant.
-
How was that a choke job?
-
Buffalo hadn't scored in an hour. Ouch.
Besides Oats, who is in line for the MU gig?
-
How was that a choke job?
It wasn't, I think he was kidding. Feel bad for the kid on the alley-oop that might have been the nail in the coffin. Huge play. And, wow, is Fall huge. MONSTER HUGE. My God.
-
That missed alley oop. Ouch. You knew that was the break Duke needed
-
Buffalo hadn't scored in an hour. Ouch.
Besides Oats, who is in line for the MU gig?
This is the beauty of fans picking the next coach** right now, only choose winners. Obviously Oats doesn't qualify.
** - MU isn't looking, and nobody here has a say, but that doesn't stop us.

And the early Scoop poll results are 90/10 in Wojo's favor...

Auburn would smoke us, LSU would beat us.
Ohio St and UCI probably won't make the S16, but I'd guess close loss to the Buckeyes and close win vs the Anteaters.

Holtmann is damn good coach.

Being a 4 is as good as being a 6, avoid 5 at all costs.
5s in the S16 = 1.
6s in the S16 = 0.
Weird.

I don't use teal.
-
The very end of the Duke-UCF game reminded me a little of the end of regulation of our game against Louisville.
Ville had a couple of shots from right at the rim that, fortunately for us, didn't go in.
Then we won it in OT, with Markus making the winning hoop with less than a minute to go.

Other than Duke, Virginia, and Gonzaga, I think we could beat any one of those teams. And even those three we could beat if we are playing at our best and they were having off nights. No I am not saying we are better than all those teams, but you all act like teams are robots that play to the same level every single game.
-
Those must be dukes traveling refs they used in that game, eyn’a? CF got JOBBED! All I will say is nasty, just nasty!!
-
Could argue a charge on Zion but the 2 or 3 prior calls all went against Duke. Didn't think UCF got hosed at all
-

No foul on Barrett’ rebound either? They call Zion for one of the charges and he fouls out, not the big guy. The only thing the refs didn’t do was put the ball in the hole for ‘em
-
If anyone is watching the Gonzaga-FSU game, I'd appreciate if someone could explain how the foul called on the Gonzaga player on a fast break before the last timeout wasn't an offensive foul on FSU. He ran across the court to sideswipe the defender who was running in a straight line.
-
So, the foul against FSU right before half... How many times have we seen Markus in a similar driving situation and get no call? Refs befuddle me
-

Playing in the second weekend is infinitely different/better. than winning one game. There's the Final Four, the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16...and the round of 32. Meh.

Interesting logic.
25% of the 5’s won a NCAA game
75% of the 6’s won a NCAA game
Who had more success in this tournament, the 5’s or the 6’s as a seed line? The 6’s, and isn’t close. Call it luck of the crapshoot tournament, call it bad luck, doesn’t matter to me....three teams with a.500 record or better vs 1 team is a no brained.

No, there was at least a few minutes left in the half. The FSU player was on a break around the 3pt line and basically ran more to the right than to the basket and slammed into the Gonzaga player

Trigger warning.
Edwards>Howard

Dude can coach.

Chris Beard should be at a blueblood.
UCLA calls, he would go?

.
-
UCLA calls, he would go?
I'll be interested to see if they do. Howland's firing was more palatable to fans because he played a slower, defensive style that didn't feel like showtime. Beard is a great coach, but I'm not sure he's a good fit at Westwood.
(To be fair, I'm not sure anyone is...)
-
I think as long as Beard's daughters are in Texas, I don't think he will be leaving for any school outside the area. That could be naive but I believe it in this case. Maybe if a blue blood calls.
-

Big shot after big shot. That was the highest level of play in a tourney game yet. Really sad the refs decided the outcome at the end.

Barnes said it was a foul
That’s classy of him and he’s not one to whine but Carson did kick his leg out which created contact. I just hate refs deciding a big game like that.
-
I really feel bad for Tennessee. Three close calls went against them in the final 5 seconds of regulation.
1. After, the blocked shot it very well could've been ruled Tennessee ball.
2. Edwards heels may have been out of bounds on the catch but there is not a definitive replay angle. At least not that I have seen.
3. The foul call is justifiable but one that could easily be a no call, just like Markus at the end of the Seton Hall game. Heck, officials let way more contact go at the end of Georgetown when Sam got the ball. Or the SEC tournament game between Auburn and Florida.
But that is just part of the sports landscape. Sometimes the close calls go your way, other times they go against you.

I disagree with all 3 of your points. I think it was 3 correct calls.

Let me clarify. I have no problem with any of the calls. Merely stating that there is a gray area of close calls.

Steratore is a jackass who will always take up for the refs, but I’m glad you posted this. You can really see his leg kick from this angle. I thinks it’s a shame the refs decided the game considering how well played it was. Contact to the head or arm I’d understand. Contact to the lower body after the release with the shooter kicking his leg out? That’s a crock of shiit call
-
I don't have an issue with the call, but I do think I would have preferred a no call. He absolutely extends the leg and turns the hip while shooting. The defender definitely bumps his leg and hip. If he doesn't extend and turn, does he bump him? I tend to think not. Also, if you pause it at the 2 second mark it looks like his heel is down and out of bounds for a split second.
But it's close enough that I don't really care.

The refs didn't decide the game. The Tennessee player did by taking a poor angle and making contact. Get your hand in his face without contact. I mean he's falling backwards with his heels over the line. Don't give the refs a reason to blow the whistle.
Refs deserve a ton of blame in college basketball for general incompetence. This is not an example of that.

It’s a non call under the circumstances considering the offensive player initiated the contact.

Yeah I don't think so. He didn't kick his leg out in a manner to get contact. It was part of the natural motion of a shooter.

Still a foul, to my understanding. Not giving the defender room to properly contest the shot. I don't think intent matters.

I don’t remember a tournament less interesting and worse than this year’s. And only two games until Elite Eight.

Auburn and UNC get it going up and down the court. Hope that Auburn player didn’t blow his knee out, it looked bad and the kid was having a great game.
One thing noticed last couple of nights, especially tonight, the PG game for each team is really really good.
I mean Markus great shooter, but these teams have some sort of good guards, here’s a few.
MSU. Cassius Winston
UNC. Coby White
LSU Tremont Waters
Auburn Jared Harper
Purdue Carson Edwards
Tenn. Bones
Like I said, Markus is good, but these guys different level of point guard. Down goes UNC, fantastic, adds abit excitement to boring games, exception Tenn/Purdue.
-
Cassius Winston is really good and clutch. Weren’t his final schools MSU and us?
-
nyg
As you know, been a PG game for quite some time. Fingers crossed the new kid can deliver the goods.

Bruce crying like a baby, aina?

About one of his best players possibly blowing out his knee? Yes he was.

Reminded me of Huggy. I didn’t know he cared until that moment with his player.

Bruce crying like a baby, aina?
He’s a jerk, but a great coach
-
Bruce crying like a baby, aina?
Crying because his best player tonight blew out his knee and Pearl knows it. Just before the tears, he said the kids hurt, he’s hurt bad, we are going to rally. Not a baby, had feelings for his hurt player. Jeez.

Right, well MH is not a point guard just a point guard body. Very little about his game says point guard, hell I would argue Sam is more of a point guard than MH
-
About one of his best players possibly blowing out his knee? Yes he was.
The team really rallied to keep it together. Ugly injury and sad.
-
Stephen Wiseman @stevewisemanNC
Problem with a knee is keeping Cam Reddish out of Duke lineup. He arrived at arena with team but is not currently warming up with them.

This is by no means a prediction, but imagine a road to the championship that went through Kansas, UNC, Kentucky and Duke.

PJ Washington is playing for Kentucky.
-
Did you not watch Purdue/Tennessee last night?
Yeah, forgot that one. Still, a terribly down year for the tournament so far.

Kentucky had a comfortable lead most of the game. Now, trails by 3.

Kentucky gifted a call there. Washington hooked the defender, got the and 1, missed the FT though.

Big shot by Herro.

Cheesy was right, hey?

Joey and Sam not want to play with Herro?

Herro is playing pretty well for a guy who wouldnt get off the bench at UK. I wonder if he regrets his decommit yet?

I think the mods did the whole world, especially those who posted in it, a favor. Basically every poster on both sides of each of the countless different arguments came across as a petty jerk. Even posters than normally don't. The topic brought out the worst in every poster and I'm actually glad it's gone.

Yeah, it started out as decent game discussion, but by about page 4 or 5, it was all just insults, so I whacked the whole thing. Didn't feel like spending the time to separate the garbage from the recyclables.

It was pretty much like any thread on here but it turned oddly personal. In fact, it was so odd that 82 and Cheeks were the stately peacemakers and bowed out. And yes, the Dicker Rods were definitely whipped out.

Not only are those commercials unfunny, but they are annoying.

Clarke for Gonzaga is absolutely not a pro prospect.
No range and couldn’t hold on to the ball against a 80 lb boy

If Georgia Tech doesn't fire Brian Gregorie and inexplicably hire Josh Pastner from Memphis.
And Memphis doesn't inexplicably hire Tubby Smith from Texas Tech.
Then Chris Beard stays at UNLV and Texas Tech doesn't get to the Final Four.

Love the way Texas Tech played that game. Suffocating on defensive end.

Watching the post season reminds me what real basketball looks like. Passing, defense, team effort, ball handling, slashers, rebounders, dribble drive and yes shooting.

Watch for this Ben McCollum coach from nw Missouri state. Just won the national D II big one with a 38-0 record with 2 freshman and a sophomore. 2nd D II championship in last 3 seasons. In his last 4 seasons he’s gone 38-0, 27-4, 35-1 and 27-6. Dudes seems to know his hoops and gets results

Last plays of the game. Carson Edwards dribbles around for 20 seconds before taking a long contested step-back 3. Then on the next possession throws the ball out of bounds.
Painter should be fired.
Purdue would be better without Edwards.

Outstanding game. Heartbreakering for Purdue. Looked to have the win. Wish it could have went to double overtime.
-
Tony making up for last year. Hard to keep the good ones down
-
Virginia-1st time to FF since 1984 Good for them
-
That last play, if the dude handles it, stretch coulda broke to the basket and had an uncontested dunk. Don’t know if that was the play cuz everyone was expecting Edwards to get the rock. But check the replay. Woulda been a brilliant play if executed. Or an option of it?

Tony Bennett let Edwards go for 42.........or maybe Edwards was just good enough to score 42 against one of the best defensive teams in the country.......
Great game......Virginia obviously fortunate to win......but congrats to Tony......a class act all the way.
Ps if an NBA team is looking for a small explosive scoring guard......Edwards is going to be first in line....assuming he goes pro which I think he will.

Who was that girl on post game show with duke jersey on?? Another example of why I’m glad I didn’t have daughters...eeeyoww! Charlie was eyeing her like a pork chop

Edwards doesn’t shoot well enough to stick in the league. He will get beat down bad.

If you foul up 3, and the first free throw is made, the team up should commit a blatant lane violation on the second free throw attempt, every time.

Dunno how accurate this guy is, but Markus at 85?
I think he's coming back...but if he doesn't, I'd be surprised if he didn't go sometime in the second round. Putting him at 85 implies he isn't all that close.
Back on topic, two great games tonight!

He isnt close. Watch Edwards, he is so much better than Markus ateverything, except shooting where they are about the same.
-
Well, they were down 3.
With a few seconds left. Would've been brilliant. Thinking outside the box.
-
He isnt close. Watch Edwards, he is so much better than Markus ateverything, except shooting where they are about the same.
LOL, Markus literally outpaces him in every stat except Steals which is a slight edge to Edwards, and TOs which is a slight edge. He has better Assist and Rebounding numbers, and better raw and eFG percentages.
When Markus was bad, he still scored. When Edwards was bad he was PUTRID. Today was fun and he was absolutely unconscious in the second half. Howard did that 3-4 times this year in big games. If someone takes Edwards in the first round off of this performance, he will be a slam dunk bust, but he should 100% leave.
The best thing I read about him on Twitter today is "Edwards is a very good player who unfortunately thinks he is Steph Curry, but very good players can have outrageous runs". The bricks towards the end of the game in OT reminded me more of what I saw from him during the year.

Outstanding game. Heartbreakering for Purdue. Looked to have the win. Wish it could have went to double overtime.
This is clearly karma for Purdue, who were only there because of one of the worst fouls calls in tournament history.

I said stick in the league, not get drafted.

Hagans looks terrible on the big stage so far

College basketball games should never be 60-58 with :52 to go. That's high schoolish.

Kentucky is abysmal on anything that’s not a layup and they have major size edge so not really a surprise

How much did you lose on the Vols?
-
I'm good with a Final Four without North Carolina or Kentucky
-
Two teams never to Final Four are in. Virginia last 35 years ago.
Two overtime games.
Two blue bloods out, UNC and Kentucky. Only one, Duke or MSU will get in.
Lackluster last week, these Elite 8 games have been great.
Said previously, Jared Harper is just a really good point guard, quick, smart, and just made 11 for 11 from line in the clutch.
Hope next game is as good as others.
-
At risk of being mocked by those who deride the crapshoot-ish nature of the tournament, it's worth remembering Auburn was a couple of made free throws from being out in the first afternoon of the dance.

At the game surrounded by Duke fans. They sure would have. Wojo is fishing in the right ponds.

The difference between Theo John and Xavier Tillman is rather striking.

It's amazing how many fouls the refs let Zion get away with. It's fine to be physical, but in the 2nd half alone he's gotten away with a charge, push off, elbow to the head and an over the back. I get he's a star, but some of that has to be called.

They are not calling anything in this game period.
Almost all contact is being let go.
It’s been consistent at least
-
1 foul on Duke. 7 minutes remaining.
-
Rooting for MSU and Izzo.
-
NCAA must really be hoping for Duke. Virginia is a big enough name, but neither Auburn nor Texas Tech are the basketball brands people tune in for (like UNC, Kentucky, Gonzaga, & Michigan, comparably speaking). Duke & Zion will attract a lot more eyeballs than the relatively anonymous Spartans.
-
Rj Barrett will be hated by nba vets.
Wow is he bad
-
Duke's luck finally has run out. Now I can enjoy the FF.
-
Good for MSU, did it without Langford and Ahrens. Tillman was awesome and he would have been a difference maker for MU. Good luck to him.
No Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas. CBS executives not in very good mood tonight, I think it’s great for basketball, don’t care about ratings.
Zion hype over, who is next year sensation.
-
Wow. What an excellent Elite 8.
-
Happy for MSU. Ike’s buddy Cassius delivered . Tillman was solid too.
Izzo is a Hall of Fame coach and I loved how he owned up to his record against K in the interview.
Dwayne Stephens with a solid MU connection,so rooting for the Spartans
to win it all .
-
Zion is listed at 6-6. There are lotsa NBA front line players that can match his talent imo. Time will tell
-
Under 12 timeout in the first half. I turn to the teenaged Duke fan next to me and tell him that MSU always has a 5 minute stretch where they can't shoot. Boom, Duke goes on a 12-0 run. Izzo calls timeout. I tell the kid that MSU almost always tightens the screws and goes on a run after their bad stretch and an Izzo timeout. MSU closes the half with a 13-0 run. The kid and the other Duke fans around me are all looking at me at halftime and asking how I knew.

Herro was 3-11 overall, 1-5 on 3s, and he had one stretch of about 2 minutes in OT during which he missed 2 shots, committed a turnover and got burned twice by Harper. (He was in very good company of UK players getting burned by Harper.)
He is No. 20 in ESPN's most recent mock draft. Though he obviously isn't "ready" for the NBA, most aren't and that's besides the point. "There's a chance (I'll be back)," Herro said. "Definitely a chance. ... I just love Kentucky. I haven't thought of a decision. I haven't looked at anything."
Sounds like he's history.
I have absolutely no idea if the rumors of the Hausers not wanting to play with him are true. If they are, and as much as we could have used a player of Herro's talent, having him for 1 season vs. having Joey for multiple seasons and a happy Sam ... interesting debate. I choose the Hausers. Again, I don't pretend to be an insider, so I'll leave others to discuss the truth of the rumors.
-
Wife is a Spartan so we'll probably try to make the game on Saturday night. Any suggestions on getting tix, or the Final Four events in general? I assume we should wait until the last minute for tix. (Not expecting great seats.) We would only be able to make Saturday's game, not the final (even if they advance). Thanks.

Auburn vs. Virginia (-5, -240 ML), 130.5 total
Texas Tech vs. Michigan State (-3, -164 ML), 132 total

One of the things that I really liked about the tournament this year is that it made a college basketball fan out of my middle daughter. She's planning to attend Purdue in the fall, and she got engaged in the tournament and followed their run. I really enjoyed sitting with her and watching their games. I'm hoping it "sticks" and she'll get as much enjoyment out of college basketball as I have.
I love college sports, and as my kids have gone off to college it's been a lot of fun gaining new schools to follow and root for.
-
In the elite 8 alone, I saw many plays that resulted in a dunk or block where the dunker/blocker would scream/flex/whatever. Yet, none were called techs.
Theo gets screwed in this regard.

You can't do it in people's faces. Secondly, I expect they are more lax in the tournament.
-
Duke fans were screaming all night that the officiating was f-n bs. I pointed out to those around me that Duke had 9 fouls for the whole game. With 3 minutes to play, I told them that if MSU had a lead and the ball in the last minute that Duke was screwed by the lack of fouls against them. Silence for a second. Then more complaining about the refs.
Even Duke fans, who get every call, complain about refs.

Fresh blood in the Final Four. First since 1985. No Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Indiana & Louisville.

Brutal Breeding call at the end.
THat was a foul. Why isn't anyone talking about the double dribble that preceded it, though?
The Virginia player was dribbling, he dribbled off his own leg. He picked it up with two hands and started dribbling again and then was fouled. That is a double dribble.

Brutal Breeding call at the end.
That was a foul. Period. Kudos for having the stones to call it.

They finally mentioned it a few minutes after the game. When the whistle blew, I thought for sure the call was going to be double dribble.

I thought Marquette those calls only went against Marquette at the end of the game . . .

That was a foul. Period. Kudos for having the stones to call it.
And a double dribble with 2 seconds left that should have wrapped it up for Auburn. Period. Ref's blunder stole the game from Auburn. No kudos for that.

Yes on the double dribble. And I'm sure we could go to a foul 3 minutes earlier, and one 7 minutes earlier, and a non call at the 17 minute mark and on and on and on. There are any number of fouls in a game that can impact the final score. Jerome was fouled backing down his player when they had 57, it happens. Human beings are still officiating games in 2019.
-
Hey Pearl gets screwed and prevents a potential vacated title. Fine by me.

Shoot FBM, that might be the first time I agree with you. A cogent observation.

The craziest part about the missed double dribble was that Breeding was the furthest away ref.

Yes. How about the Auburn player who fouled him. No way he should have been that close to Guy and should have went straight up, but ran right into him. Feel for him, but not a good defensive play. Harper, an 85% free throw shooter missing that free throw also hurt. Five points in eight seconds, wow.
-
Awful no call on the double dribble
-
Awful no call on the double dribble
I thought Kenny Smith had it right. The fact Auburn had fouls to give made everyone focus on either a foul or the start to the final play—not the quick DD. Missed for sure.

Hilarious. When the ref makes the correct call to give a team the game it "Kudos" but when he makes the no doubt about it wrong call to give a team the game it no big deal because another call MIGHT have been missed earlier. Unreal.

Agree on the missed call, and even though the final call was correct, I can't believe it was called.

The University of "Meatchicken" wasn't funny or clever the first time. By the 20th (50th?) time it's fingernails on a chalkboard annoying.

This. Inexcusable to miss that call then make a call to decide the game. Refs are so horrible
-

Nope. First of all, refs don't give teams the game. If you read what I said, you will also note I agreed they missed the other call. Just as they missed calls through out the game. One call doesn't decide a game. If a call isn't made with 9 minutes to play when a player is fouled in the act of shooting, that's potentially 2 points left on the table. It happens all the time.

Wouldn't calling the DD "decide the game"?
-
The question that also has to be answered is whether he was fouled before he even committed the double dribble. If he was, then that missed call negates the double dribble. Yes, human beings make mistakes. Lots of swallowing the whistle on last shots over the years, twice now in this tournament the refs didn't do that and got the call right both times....and yes, that doesn't take away from other mistakes they made in the game. I'll still give kudos for a ref to call a foul at the end of a game when so often they refuse to and suddenly a foul with 9 minutes to go isn't with 2 seconds to go.
Sure as hell looks like he was fouled before he double dribbled

You can’t make one but miss the other particularly as blatant as it was. That’s the point

Brutal half. Absolutely brutal.
That said, Izzo's teams are built to go either up or down tempo.

Over under if Tech wins for Monday night may be 110 points.
-
Auburn tried to foul him before the DD but for some crazy reason the ref didn't call it. I mean, the defender reached out and grabbed him. So in the wildness of it all, they missed the DD and then the foul call to set up the final play.
The foul on the 3-pointer was absolutely the correct call, and I commend the ref for having the stones to call it.
And Guy ... he wastes no time after the ref hands him the ball for FTs. Just steps right into 'em and swishes 'em. Impressive.
I'm in the camp that if Bruce feels cheated somehow ... effen good! He's been cheating for decades. Screw him; karma's a beyotch, pal. But also, the call was good.

I know MSU is in the final four and all but I would not trade Markus for Cassius.

Mooney is such a difference maker. It sucks that our grad transfer could barely dribble a basketball.

That tiny brief jersey pull? A judgement call at best. The DD otoh, not a judgment call. Just a missed call

It feels as if TT's lead is like a 30 point lead in the BE at this point.

That is absolutely a foul. Auburn was trying to give the foul.

Careful. Lenny will throw some stats about how many times teams have overcome a 30 point lead in the BE vs. how many times a team overcame an 11 point TTU lead.
-
The missed call that caused the DD was inexcusable. He was fouled.
The amount of contact required for a foul always has been (and always will be) debatable and inconsistent. But that DD should be called every time. UVa caught a break.

Btw, I think the coverage, studio, color and announcers/analysts have been outstanding all tournament.

Disagree. He was trying to prevent him from tracking down the loose ball then quickly let go. Fouls with more significant contact go uncalled all the time
-
Mooney
Now that’s a mid major grad transfer
-
That is absolutely a foul. Auburn was trying to give the foul.
I've seen plenty of times where a team is trying to give a foul and the refs don't call it until the third or fourth grab or slap. Happens all the time when teams are trying to foul....

Hey Chi Town, still think he's not a high major player ;D

Winston can distribute, and dribble the ball. Markus is a shoot first guard, Winston isn’t.

B1G chokes the choad again. Hasn't won the NC this century. TT is as well-coached a team as I remember.

Izzo has eight final fours, won once. Great to get the team there, but it’s been awhile since they won.

Texas Tech really out played and out hustled MSU they earned that win the old fashioned way with hard work. Very impressive. MSU needs some skills players to win one of these things again.

I don’t know how TT found Chris Beard, but the guy’s a star. He’ll coach at a blue blood if he wants to.

Former assistant for them for 10 years. Don’t forget UNLV hired him 19 days earlier.
UCLA should offer $10 million a year on a Tuesday.
-
Izzo handled the loser interview well. He will be back.
-
Ahh, they are praying. Cut the feed! Cut the feed!!
Lol I thought the same thing. All this hype waiting for Beard to get to the locker room for like 10 minutes. First thing they do is pray so they cut back to the desk, awkward.
-
wonder who the refs will be for the championship
Wymer and Stephens by deduction. Don't know third (Ayers?).
-
Beard giving his best Buzz "ah shucks" impressions in the pressers.
-
Texas Tech plays defense like Wisconsin - foul every possession and dare the refs to call it. They are longer and more athletic so it works well.

No they don't.
-
What’s impressive about Texas tech is they did not start one player who was a top 100 recruit. Of the eight players who played, only 1 was ranked in the top 100.
-
Mooney is damn good. Another Chicago suburban kid passed over (ND Prep).

Buzz’s interview the other day in studio at A&M was filled with that...he adopted a new accent and everything.

A lot of people passed him over if he ended up at the Air Force Academy then a newly D1 South Dakota. This board would have melted down if a guy with a 59 from ESPN were signed by a Wojo. Kevin Menard probably had a higher ranking. Credit Mooney for his hard work leading to his development and the coaches at USD and TTU for cultivating his talent.

As for when he transferred:
Q: You mentioned offers you have. Are you able to talk about that at all — some of the schools that have offered you scholarships, at this point?
A: Yeah. Right now, schools I'm going to take visits to that want me and have offered me would be University of South Dakota, Colgate, Penn in the Ivy League, University of New Hampshire and Louisiana-Lafayette. There's some other schools in the mix, but those are probably the ones I'm narrowing it down to, at this point.

Mooney is Mooney because of Texas Tech. He wouldn't have developed into the player he is now in the Marquette program.

I keep hearing from some on the board how Wojo is recruiting Chicago. I wouldn’t have minded a graduate transfer Mooney over Joseph C. Yet, we keep getting misses or excuses why not good fits for MU.
I guess Nojel Eastern, Evan Landreaux wouldn’t have been good fits either. Seemed to play good roles for Purdue from the Chicago burbs too. Oh well. All is good.

Do we know if Wojo tried to get Mooney? Or the others you mention?

Not Mooney or Boudreaux. Marquette did offer Eastern.

Offer vs inquiry
I read some comments here and I believe some posters think our staff stiff arms prospects as a point of amusement.
-
If Wojo can duplicate that, I won’t complain. ;)
Of course we all claim we would say that ... but seriously, getting to the FF so often without winning it, I wonder how that would sit with some of the tougher graders on Scoop.
As for Beard, many (probably most) Scoopers would have said that us hiring somebody with his resume -- only 1 season at a mid-major -- would have "proven" that we can't attract the big boys. They would have ripped Marquette for not hiring an "established" coach. And they would have lamented that he couldn't sign any top-100 recruits.
We're a funny group. We want everything all ways all the time ... and that's understandable, I guess, because that's what fans are. And sure, I include myself in that group. Although I am more optimistic, more patient and less extreme than many, I still very much want to win, and although I back Wojo I do wonder if he'll be able to get us where we all want to go. I think he can but until we take a major step, I won't know he can.

I found that funny as well. "Make it stop!"

We offered him June 28, 2015. We didn't get him. Numerous sources on Twitter (Scout, Bullseye, Verbal Commits) reported it. Not a big deal either way, but he had an offer and went elsewhere. I wasn't saying it as a point of debate, just clarifying the answer to your question.

I’m talking about the others

Don't think the other two were offered or inquired about that I remember.

I actually found it being respectful. Prayer is something solemn that doesn’t need to be broadcast.

Um Mooney was one of the top two grad transfers last offseason. If anything, Mooney is Mooney because of South Dakota.

I just discovered I was born on Tony Bennett's 1st birthday. I'm rooting for Virginia tonight.
-
What was the O/U on number of times the shot clock buzzer sounds? I think we are at 4 or 5 already
-
First one to 50.
-
Derrick Wilson would look good playing tonight.
-
Virginia on a furious run to possibly score double digits by the 10 minute mark!

First one to 50.
Dick Bennett in the stands sweating and giddy with pleasure

Texas Tech with a 25 point comeback. Check that, a 7 point comeback.

I’m loving this game. These teams are great. Love watching UVA. So under control. Never play outside of themselves. Everyone has a role and plays it.

UVa has given Tech trouble because they never get flustered late in the shot clock. This is a really good offensive team for Bennett.

GREAT no call.

Who's the first Scoop hard-o to complain when Ja's dunk over Joey ends up on One Shining Moment?

Great game. UVA’s talent is very underrated. I’d kill for a lead guard who could control the game like any of Guy, Jerome (particularly), and Clark can.
-
Wait a doggone sec ... UVa was the #1 seed in the tournament last year and lost to a 16? I didn't know that!
The next thing somebody's gonna say is that Otule had a glass eye!

Hopefully that's Markus/Koby/Symir next year

My guess is a key part of this national title for UVA was hiding the score of their 20 point loss to a 16 seed. What an embarrassment and one that should be erased from everyone’s minds ASAP.
-
Several national hoops observers are pointing out that, as great as Beard coached this season and as good as TTech's defense is, they inexplicably left Hunter -- a 40% 3-point shooter and the team's star all season -- wide, wide, wide open at the arc when leading by 3 with 13 seconds to go.
Let Jerome make the layup, for crissakes.
But that's the deal. Beard probably told his kids, "Just don't give up a wide-open 3 to one of their great shooters." But kids are kids, and they sometimes don't follow the coach's instructions and sometimes don't do the right things.
Between that defensive play, and a horrible scud of an unnecessary 3 that Mooney launched in OT, those were two huge plays that killed an otherwise wonderful, well-coached team.
Again, I am NOT saying Beard is anything other than a great coach. I wish we had him, and I wish we had several of the TTech players, too.

Good stuff.
And BTW, almost every Virginia game in the tournament was compelling, filled with big plays and huge moments.
I rather liked the way they controlled the pace and showed patience. Maybe I wouldn't like watching that 30+ times a year (but maybe I wouldn't mind), and if my team played that way and was successful, I would have zero problem with it. It certainly hasn't stopped Bennett from landing some outstanding athletes, either.
My one criticism of Bennett's team last night is that they REALLY took the air out of the ball too early -- like up 6 with 5+ minutes to go -- and ended up launching almost every shot right at the clock. They made a couple but missed a lot more, and it let TTech back in the game. Wojo's boyz fell victim to the same thing a few times this season. I like playing the clock, but not with that much time left.
-

That wasn't a last night thing, I felt they did that almost every game. They let Purdue back in with similar tactics & let Auburn back in.
I really enjoyed watching Virginia, in no small part because they were my NC pick, but they gave away leads of 8+ in all 3 of their final games & had to rally with under 15 seconds to play in all 3 games. Based on Pomeroy's win probabilities, the odds they would win all 3 games is 0.04212%.
As improbable as a 1 losing to a 16 was, Virginia winning this title the way they did was vastly more improbable.
-
One thing I noticed is that Bennett doesn't use a lot of TOs and let's his players "play through it." I guess in the end it worked, but I thought he could have called a TO or two last night to stop TT when they were making their run at the end. He did something similar v. Purdue and Auburn, really only using TOs to stop the clock late.

So did Beard. When you have great defenses, that allows a coach to bank time outs for late game situationals.

Yeah, just great for him being on the receiving end.

Good points.
Given that a 1 had never lost to a 16 ... as in never, ever, ever ... that was pretty darn improbable. But I hear what you're saying.
There is definitely a time to take the air out of the ball, but up 6 with 5+ minutes to play or up 8 with 7 minutes to play doesn't seem like the right time. I know it drives me nuts when Wojo's team does stuff like that.

+1
So many times I thought "stop the bleeding." Felt like he wasn't really coaching them much. In the end, it worked out, but felt like a dicey plan to go with.

On a whim, the wife and I made the 20 minute trek to Minneapolis last night and got to US Bank Stadium at 8pm. Talked to a bunch of scalpers who had crazy prices. Waited em out until minutes before tip and scored some sweet lower level corner seats for a solid price. Sat in the midst of TT fans so since we didn't care, we just cheered along with them.
The game was a blast. The TT fans were a lot of fun. Though nerves got the best of many of them. The couple next to us had chartered a 10 person plane and landed an hour before tip. $$$
I was trying to imagine how much yellow would've filled the stands had MU ended up in Minneapolis. Next year...
-
I had to laugh at the end of regulation when Mooney inbounded the ball for TTech. I could practically hear Ners screaming that Mooney should be available to shoot or be a decoy because he knows better than Beard, too. This time, Ners would have been "right," just as he was "wrong" about the end of regulation at Creighton.
-

It looked to me that the entire TTU defense was flatfooted on that play as if they were just going to give up the two. Then a defender dropped off of Hunter and that left him open.
I was talking to a coach this morning and asked him his opinion on Tech's last offensive possession in regulation and Culver taking that three. Should Beard have called TO? He agreed with me that Beard made the right decision, saying that if you give UVA a chance to set their D you're screwed. Culver panicked, IMO, he should have driven to the lane, he shot the ball with more than 5 seconds remaining. Hell of a finish, that's for sure.

Obviously, it's easy for all of us (including me) to second-guess this stuff, but yes I agree with that too.
