New Marquette commercial
« on: September 26, 2014, 06:59:30 PM »
I don't know about you guys, but I was getting a little tired of the official commercial for Marquette that they played on TV during the games.  They just released its replacement today:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/1SVOlZS8CDM" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/1SVOlZS8CDM</a>

What does everyone think?

False advertising.  The whole thing falls apart if they try filming on the 359 days of the year that aren't sunny, warm enough to row on unfrozen water, and with lush green plants all over campus.

It'll still take about 90,000 airings during our games before it's near as lame as the last one.

I like it. Well done. But didn't realize MU has a rowing team.

They were pretty good back in the day, one of the better club teams in the country if I recall.

LOL.  It is actually Nicholas D'Agosto, probably Marquette's 2nd most famous contemporary actor alum after Danny Pudi.  He is currently on "Masters of Sex" and was previously on "Heroes".

I wish I had known that.  My previous gig the last 5+ years was handling HBO, Showtime, etc, etc, along with sports.  M of S is a Showtime series, but had no idea he was a MU guy.  I was just in Vegas two weeks ago at the Mayweather fight with Showtime and a bunch of M of S, Ray Donovan, and Shameless cast were there at the pre and post party.  Kicking myself...don't recall if he was there, but that would have been fun to talk to him about.  Maybe next time.

Hunter from The Office and West from Heroes are the same person, and he's an MU alum?  Holy crap.

Nice job, although I wouldn't have minded more than a split second view of the law school. That place is a show stopper.

Had a couple classes with Nicholas my frosh and soph year, then didn't see him again until I saw him on The Office one day and said... wait a minute...

Didn't know he was a Marquette guy! Love the show.

Why can't we get John Hamm or Tim Allen to do the voiceovers?

The commercial looks good. Not so sure about some of the slogans. Some of the back ended expressions include, "...able contributors", "...willing servants", "...effective doers". Not very inspiring. You can be great...but if that is too much to ask or you don't want to, you can also just be present.

Are people aware that Amy Madigan is an alum? With all due respect to some of these Young Turks they can't hold a candle to her, artistically.

Maybe people aren't aware because she doesn't appear to have done anything for the school - not publicly,  anyway.

It's good, just think the VO doesn't have enough gusto or gravitas for me.

Understand the target audience. I think the commercial is terrific, particularly as it is marketed to high schoolers.
