If the Hausers are really all about team play why write a letter complaining about Markus and ask other players to sign it? Talk about torpedoing team chemistry. That literally is turning players against each other and the coaching staff.
If they had a problem with Markus why not talk to him instead of going behind his back with a letter?
Also, I love the irony of Joey asking Bailey and Cain to sign a letter about someone getting special treatment while sucking.

Did I miss something. Wtf is this letter now? Jesus what a damn mess

Acting like the Hausers are the only ones fed up is really burying your head in the sand.

Come on. You really think that was out of the blue? You really think it wasn’t a last resort? You think the entire team didn’t voice concerns? Who even said Sam wrote it? In any event, Sam was the team leader. If the rest of the team was unhappy, isn’t it his responsibility to communicate with the coach?
Some of you guys are delusional!

Why go behind another players back? What ask the team to go behind another players back? Talk to Markus if you have a problem with him. Don’t act like the Hausers are without blame here.

This seems too fantastic to be true but would point to An out of control situation

Anyone ever play telephone before?
-
I came only to talk about how much Alex Chilton transformed as a singer and artist from when he was with The Box Tops in "The Letter" to his debut with Big Star.
-
If there was a letter it does seem bizarre? Why not have a team meeting?
-
Anyone ever play telephone before?
True. I’m assuming nothing has been lost relaying people’s “sources” which is a poor assumption.
-
I'm glad there's another thread. This one will surely uncover the Truth.

"The Letter" is a classic Movie.

It does seem bizarre.
Assuming it was written and delivered, I think it was a poor choice. It has the potential for aging very poorly with blowback on the authors and signers.
But I don't blame college kids for thinking it is a good idea. They don't have the perspective yet.

Can someone anxiously reading every single thread make some sort of summary post. This crap is harder to follow than politics.

"The Letter" is a classic Movie.
Song, too.
With apologies to The Box Tops ...
Gimme a transfer outta Marquette U
Wojo's team ain't fit for Christian or Jew
Markus shoots too much, Wojo's lost his touch
We felt helpless, so we wrote a letter

Heard about the validity of said letter from a number of reputable sources. Seems strange. Is there that much a disconnect between coach and some players where they cannot voice concerns and work things out man to man? Pretty sad situation all things considered.

I heard heard that Hauser’s dad wrote it, then passed it to Tim Maymon, then to Wally’s Grandpa, then to....

Gimme a ticket for an aero plane
Ain't got time to take a fast train,
Markus hogged the ball, Marquette took the fall
So we Hausers wrote Wojo a letter
I don't know what college we will attend
Anyplace where we won't see the Dookie again
'Cause Markus hogged the ball and MU took a fall
So we Hausers wrote Wojo a letter

This crap is harder to follow than politics.
Politics is simple. The press gets very excited re one party if the Justice Dept discusses the Mueller Report with the White House before it's (redacted) release to the public. And the press gets very excited re the other party if the POTUS wears a tan suit.

The record needs to be set straight as there is a fair amount of slander going around with the current situation. Please, please, please no one take out their frustrations on Markus or the Hauser’s.
Markus has a way that he likes to play and he believes that style will get him to the next level. It’s not directly on him to change to make his teammates happy.
The Hauser’s have a right to be frustrated with the lack of looks in the offense and shouldn’t be looked down upon because they’re leaving for greener pastures.
It’s human nature to selfishly take care of yourself/family first. However it’s on the coach and coaching staff to manage the egos and quell frustrations, especially with a roster as talented and potent as we would have been next year.
This situation rests squarely on the shoulders of the head coach for repeated negligence on managing the personalities on his team and refusing to cope with very vocal frustrations throughout the past year.
Some animosity began when Markus was allowed to go back home over the summer to work out with his family while everyone else was required to stay on campus. A lot of players were frustrated with this and rightfully so. Sure, Markus’ dad is a trainer, but if you’re building a team, why allow a key member of your team to leave everyone else during a crucial team building period to live at home, away from the rules/restrictions everyone else must abide by.
Frustrations grew significantly when Markus was dominating the ball down the losing stretch and Wojo refused to rest him or adjust to allow a more team oriented approach. Because many on the team felt it was the only option to get through to Wojo, a letter was written to him, initiated by the Hauser’s and cosigned by other members on the team, but it still fell on deaf ears.
There was a one sided conversation following the season and it ended with the Hauser’s saying thanks and we’re leaving.
This situation rests squarely on the shoulders of Wojo not being able to manage his team over the past year.

Gimme a Markus Howard any day
Ain’t got time for balanced play

You are making a lot of assumptions they didnt do anything before this letter and they were the spearhead of it. ALL we know is there was a letter that Sam submitted to Wojo that was signed by many players.

I heard it was actually a scroll sent by raven.

It is hard for me to believe that someone could actually make this stuff up. Having said that, if this actually went on we have bigger problems than just loosing two players. Meanwhile as our expert coaching staff works this all out I plan on watching the grass grow. At least that makes sense.

Listen, the letter F'n existed...you keep wanting to see proof...and you KNOW that isn't going to happen. there's enough people that know what went on, that have sources, that know EXACTLY what happened. I know you have been around awhile, you should know that these kinds of things(contents of a letter) are kept confidential for a reason. They aren't for public consumption. But the letter DID exist, it was REAL and if you ask/talk to the right people, you would know that. Enough people here having been saying that. is it that hard for you to believe that people do have sources that tell them things?? You CANNOT reveal sources, or they simply aren't sources anymore...people work hard to gain the trust of their sources, that's how they get their info, once that trust is compromised, they no longer get info, pretty simple, really.
You are entitled to believe what you want, that's your prerogative...but to believe a letter never existed because no one can provide the contents of it?? Come on man...is someone supposed to ask a player of the team to see it so they can post it on scoop?? Ask one of the Coaches for it??
The letter existed...that's a fact.

Well, they wrote Wojo a letter
Said, "We sure can't live with Markus no more
Listen Wojo, oh you gotta have our back
Or we'll walk out the door."
Quittin' time, yeah!

Uhh, forgive me what I must be missing here, but any letter from the Hausers clearly shows that they have a whole lot of growing up to do (and/or resisting said growing up for some reason), to the point of being detrimental to the team. Rising up against the head coach that you personally chose to play for is weak sauce and reflects solely on them. Now that they are gone, did their weak sauce wipe off on everyone else as they bailed? Not sure I get that.
Still, this is all purely hypothetical and like nearly everything mentioned here over the last few days, probs never happened.

Do you think they typed the letter?
Maybe it was handwritten? If so definitely wide ruled.

The only choice worse than writing a letter to express disdain would have been supporting the US Postal Service by mailing it

2 things:
1. From the letter it was said that during the losing streak nothing was done nor did Markus sit while playing poorly. Well thats complete BS. There were very long stretches of game where Markus was benched during the losing streak. Unfortunately while Markus was benched Joey turned it over like it had lube on it and Sam was chucking bricks himself. So much of the basis of this so called letter is bullcrap.
2. Wtf?! Writes a letter. I cannot possibly imagine a letter wAs witten. The hauser parents were in milwaukee all the fin time. Everyone on this board knows a parent n a child that had a problem or a concern with their child on a team. How many of them ever wrote a letter? And tried to have teammates sign it. Complete chicken s#it
Both these points cause me to doubt tge validity of this letter. I will say this, with every moment n read post my opinion of the entire Hauser clan takes another step down

I write letters, especially to deal with difficult or emotional situations.
It can be challenging to stay calm and express all the points one wants to make in a conversation. Writing a letter gives time to be thoughtful and to properly articulate ones' perspective. In addition, unlike a verbal conversation, one can edit a letter. Last, a letter is something that can be documented and left behind. This provides both a record of what is communicated and allows the recipient time to re-read and reflect.

Yeah, jealousy the motivator for all of time. The press Markus got all year was great for him and the program, but coworkers get more jealous the more coverage 99% of the time. When I had my 5 minutes of Fame on Fox news after winning a big race in 2014 inturned down a.dozen big interviews to not show up my candidate, said in the one interview that it was all about the hundreds of volunteers, and still had one coworker I loved not talk to me for over a year and knives everywhere. Being in political campaigns for years I knew it would come, but jealousy is natural and it's a shame it tears things down so often. Sure me and everyone else is guilty of it on many occasions, just not on as big a stage!

Writing a letter to the coach - what a marshmellowy soft way of handling a confrontation.
Someone please link the Facebook Wit and Wisdom of Al McGuire post on the Bernard Toone-Al McGuire fight in NCAA Rd1 game vs Cincinnati.
Late in the first half of a close game, Toone improvised a shot attempt on a set play called for someone else (sound familiar?).
This pissed off Al immensely, so Al calls timeout and just as Toone walks past him, Al goes, “I’ll cut off your hand, Bernard, if you ever do that again.”
BT responds, “You know something...you’re a Muther#&$%er to play for.”
The halftime horn sounds and Al makes a beeline to Toone in the locker room...”where is that s.o.b.? I’m gonna kill him...I’m gonna cut his throat.”
Toone after the game said that Al “put his finger in my cheek and pushed it into my face...so I reacted like a NEw York kid....I jumped at him, grabbed him by the collar and flung him onto the taping table.”
Bo Ellis then recounted how BT went on to score 26 points in the 2nd half. “Coach Al was a master psychiatrist.”
Maybe Sam thinks Wojo should’ve done this with Markus when he went off script.
It’s kinda sad that coaches can’t coach anymore...and when they can’t, they receive a letter calling them out for it.

I was in corporate management training last week. And a segment in the training was how communicating things is most understood by people.
Words 7%
Tone 38%
Body Language 55%
People will understand more by someone's body language and tone than by what is written down. Most people in training expressed how they tried to carefully write things to communicate information but the point was that it's not nearly as understood as the writer thinks.

Thanks for this, AC.
I think I'm to the point where I believe the letter exists.
But as for what was in it ... all I've heard is various accounts from people who haven't seen it. I'll believe what was in it when I see it, or at least when a credible witness provides a credible account. And I'll believe that Wojo's response was an immediate F-U when, again, I hear it from a credible witness.
I'm not saying some of the stuff that's been said isn't true; what I'm saying is I don't know. And so far in my hours and hours on Scoop since Monday, I don't believe others know, either. Or if they do, they have done a pretty poor job articulating it and/or showing evidence of it.
So until then, I'm sticking with the KISS principle:
-- Wojo lost control of the team.
-- Hausers wanted the ball more.
-- Markus stays, Hausers go.
-- Wojo is on the clock.

Letter (it wouldn't surprise me), no letter....whatever. There seems to be no doubt that the players attempted to address a legitimate issue that was affecting the success of the team. It is unfathomable that they were not able to rectify the situation before it got to the point they left. It would amaze me if the coaching staff and/or Markus were not at least receptive to addressing the issue given the struggles the team was having down the stretch. I'm not suggesting they just cater to whatever the Hausers wanted, but did they really just turn a blind eye to it? Just a sad and frustrating situation all around.

Are you Rapping that last part?

I move we all accept this statement and refrain from starting new Hauseroshima threads.

This seems to be in dispute by the pro-Hauser posters. It's not that the Hausers wanted the ball more per se, they just wanted to see it distributed more, regardless of who was getting it.

You mean like a team? It is obvious to most of us.

Whole thing sucks. No winners here.

That's cool. Given the information all of us have at our disposal, there are all kinds of ways to interpret things, and biases naturally enter in for all of us humans.
I'm sticking with KISS as I understand it and/or until I am presented with evidence suggesting otherwise.

This is an interesting take. guru used the exact same argument to claim that the Hausers were right and Wojo sucks. Classic example of 2 Scoopers looking at the same set of facts and coming up with completely different conclusions. The "answer," if there is one, could be in the middle somewhere. Again, we're all beholden to our own biases.

Guess they aren't transferring to Purdue.

The stuff about playstyle doesn't bother me. I don't care what style of ball we play, who's the coach or what players are on the roster, I just want to see the program win while remaining relatively above board.
Wojo made a call that the high usage style was the best approach for the team. Overall, it worked pretty well. Was there a style that would have been better? Maybe. But it's the coach's call to make.
Where I think the failure lies is in Wojo's (and the assistant coaches') failure to get players to buy into their roles. I'm not sure where the biggest failures were. Was it keeping Markus from freelancing as someone put it? Was it failure to get the Hausers to be happy in their roles as ultra efficient snipers (which they were very successful at)? Honestly, it doesn't matter. Coaching staff couldn't get it done and it's costing us now.
Best possible outcome from this is that Wojo and the assistants learn from this, recover, and still kick butt next season. If they don't, they will be gone.

And it's because the first "S" stands for "simple."

I think the Hausers had a right to be upset. Writing the letter was not necessarily a bad idea. Where it went bad in my opinion was when they asked other players to sign it. They ended up leading a mutiny instead of stating their case. Once they did that they ruined the team chemistry. I am hoping Wojo had the balls to tell them to transfer.

Interesting. Perhaps Wojo did show them where the door was.

Here is a potential analogy to this unfortunate situation:
• 2010 – D Wade is the star of the Miami Heat. He successfully recruits Lebron James (and Chris Bosh) to Miami to win championships. For the most part his stats decline across the board because Lebron becomes the focal point. Result – D Wade will make the HOF and his unselfish nature allows him to win two championships with the “Big Three.”
• 2017 – Kyrie Irving is second fiddle to Lebron on Cleveland. They won the championship the year prior (2016), but lost to GS in 2017. Kyrie wants to be the focal point and get out from Lebron’s shadow. Kyrie demands a trade and end up in Boston. Cleveland makes the NBA finals w/o Kyrie in 2018 and odds are that Kyrie will have no finals appearances in his first two years with Cleveland.
IMHO, D Wade was the smarter and more successful player to sacrifice being the focal point than Kyrie who bolted from a team because he wasn’t the focal point.

Though ironically lebron's critics talk about his refusal to take over games and to be more selfish.

Yeah....I’m sure they were advocating for Theo or Ed to get more opportunities. Give me a break.

I read in one post that Markus was allowed to go home for the summer when the rest of the team had to stay on campus. In one of the post game press conferences this past season Wojo discussed how he rests Markus during the week because of his usage in games. It seems fairly evident that Markus has been treated differently than the rest of the team.
It’s somewhat ironic given Wojo’s continuous comments about the strength of the team being the team. I don’t pretend to know Wojo’s justification for treating Markus differently but It’s hard to blame the Hauser’s or any other player if their frustration stemmed from this.

To be fair, in an interview I heard, he said both Markus and Sam don’t practice as much as others due to their usage and minutes. I had the mental image of Wojo screaming at the team at practice and those two on the sideline resting. Probably couldn’t be great for morale. Not sure if that’s a common practice in NCAA.
