Vander Blue Q & A

I don't think it's possible to overstate the importance of the commitment of Vander Blue to MU.

In him, Buzz Williams not only lands the premier high-school senior in Wisconsin, a combination guard who will add both size and versatility to the Golden Eagles' backcourt, but the second-year coach also shows he will definitely need to be respected with regard to recruiting and attracting the top talent within the borders of the state.

All of a sudden, the de-committment of Aaron Bowen doesn't seem so bad. Whereas Bowen was something of an unknown quantity, Blue is by all accounts the real deal, someone who should be able to step in as a freshman and make an immediate impact. Add a big man to round out the class -- Monterale Clark is clearly out of the picture now; how about Tarik Black? -- and all of a sudden Williams has some serious talent heading into 2010-'11.

Can we just skip this season and go right to November 2010 already?

How did Buzz react? "He started crying and screaming. He was really excited."

Tom Crean did a reaction like that with a recruit. He was, and still is, mocked for it.

By whom? I have never heard that before (Although I admit I just may not have been paying attention).

Nobody around here has ever mocked Buzz for crying.

The amount of pressure and expectations on buzz and other head coaches must be a lot to bear.  I'm sure when a kid like this commits there is a huge sense of relief.

That said, there is no room for crying.....and is open for ribbing for sure.

No way, us true fans have been waiting all summer for the start of this season.  No one said it will be easy.  Go Marquette!

I think the reaction is awesome because I have no idea how to visualize that reaction by Buzz.  It blows my mind.

Buzz deserves to be mocked for it too.

Once saw Moore and Majerus eating the all-you-can eat Sunday buffet at the Hyatt. They got their money's worth. I'm surprised that hotel was still open for business the next day.

Lloyd Moore made us laugh.  They filmed a freshman mixer or other event he was at and he was dancing.  Not very well I might add, though better than he played ball I'm afraid...

Lloyd Moore ate so many Froot Loops his freshman year at McCormick that Kellogg's stock skyrocketed.

I definitely want to see Lazar play as the Man. I have a feeling he is going to have a great year, even better than Novak's, and maybe close to Tony Smith's senior year. Hopefully the team results are closer to Novak's senior year than Tony's.

I wish I shared your optimism. I just don't see where we are going to get the PG play to allow things to open up enough for Lazar. He will be the focus of every opposing defense, and I just don't think MU will be able to do much about it.

Quick question, who was the last "top talent within the borders of the state" to committ to MU?  Was it Jim McIlvaine (I know he was being recruited by UCLA and a few other schools)? Or was it Steve Novak?

I think the McIlvane signing was a defining moment for KO, as it started MU back on our road to respectability.

depends on what you mean.

If you mean top 20 in the nation, I can't say.

If you mean the best player in the state then the list is much, much longer.
