RIP Guy V Lewis UH BB HOF er

Here are todays links to the passing of  Guy V Lewis, a Houston sports legend:

After the honor of attending MU undergrad during the '77 champ years, I moved on to UH law and was there during Phi Slamma Jamma, incl the heartbreaker NC State loss (IMO the most dramatic ending to any NCAA Champ game ever). I barely missed out at being a student at 2 schools winning NCAA BB champs.

A few years later, imagine my excitement when Dan Spika (http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/dan-spika-1.html ) called me to ask that I represent he and Guy V Lewis in a Shoe endorsement lawsuit. I found excuses to lunch often over our case, just so I could  sit and listen to their many many  NCAA BB coaching stories. Guy V was a wonderful man.

Today is day of thanks. Guy V has passed.

I am so very thankful Guy was in my life and I was honored by his support and friendship.

I am thankful that his BB family finally was able to get him into the Naismith BB hall of fame, and that he enjoyed the induction before this passing.

I am thankful for Lewis integrating southern NCAA BB, for putting Houston HS BB on the hotbed map, for the rich legacy of UH BB,  for our 3 NBA top 50 UHers (Hayes, Drexler, and Olajuwon), and for his innovations on the Game of the Century (UH UCLA in the Dome) which seeded our modern Stadium based Final Four extravaganzas of today.

Thanks and RIP Guy V... we loved you, and we'll miss you.

Who? Guy V Lewis....this is fun read on players-Drexler, Elvin Hayes, Hakeem, Birdsong, kicking around Ucla, and John wooden teams , and all of the firsts, or pioneering of the most worthy, but not in the Naismath BB Hall of fame, guy, Guy Vernon Lewis

With final 4 here, we are getting lots of BB coverage, stories in the media...including sidebars like this one, enjoy:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Phi Slamma Jamma was  an incredibly fun team to watch, and one of the best teams not to win the championship.  RIP Guy.

Great story.  RIP.  Scoop is an unusually great place where these stories are shared.
