The Bears Just Cut Jimmy Clausen
« on: November 23, 2015, 01:01:25 PM »
Twitter is reporting that the bears just cut Jimmy Clasuen (earlier today).  They promoted David Fales off the practice squad and he is now the second string QB (the bears have no third string).

Bears: QB Jimmy Clausen waived; QB David Fales promoted to the active roster (ESPN) http://espn.go.com/nfl/

I guess the bears saw what Brock Osweiler did for Denver yesterday and were mad that their back-up could not do the same.

So the bears are “all-in” on Cutler.  If he gets hurt against the Packers Thursday, could the bears go five consecutive games without a first down?  And will they need a backup for punter Pat O’Donnell as he might get injured from overuse?

Bears waive quarterback Jimmy Clausen

The Bears finally made a change at quarterback, but it wasn’t the one everyone was anticipating last offseason.

The Bears announced they were waiving backup Jimmy Clausen, and promoting rookie David Fales from the active roster.

That likely means someone was sniffing around Fales and they wanted to protect the 2014 sixth-round pick for the future. And frankly, if they need Clausen later, he’ll be available.

He was always an unusual choice to be Jay Cutler’s backup, as Bears coach John Fox never showed that much interest in Clausen when he coached him as a rookie in Carolina in 2010.

Clausen started a game this year for the Bears, and has an all-time record of 1-11 as a starter.

----------------------

The highlighted part makes sense.  The bears can protect Fales on the active roster and if Cutler gets hurt, they can re-sign Clausen ... he's not going anywhere.

Really only a Dohmer football / Bears fan like yourself cares about Jimmy Clausen.

The rest of us can't recall a time when he didn't suck.

The only time this year that the Bears have been completely outmatched and out of a game was the Seattle game in which Clausen started.  He's not even McCown level competent.  He's garbage.

Thank god and good riddance. Does that mean the bears don't have any former Domers on their team anymore? Cause that would be phenomenal.

If Cutler was out for an extended period, they'd likely go with Fales as the starter during that time anyway. Not a surprising move.

The reason for the change is a practical one for the Bears. According to head coach John Fox, Fales received interest from another NFL team looking to sign him to their active roster, so the Bears opted to keep him and move forward without Clausen in the mix.

One team that likely expressed an interest in Fales was the Baltimore Ravens, who not only lost starting quarterback Joe Flacco for the season on Sunday but also happen to have former Bears head coach Marc Trestman on staff as their offensive coordinator.

Well they need a quarterback who knows that offense just to ride out the year.  He isn't a long term solution for them.

This story is perfect!

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2015/11/19/backup-quarterbacks-rankings-matt-hasselbeck-brock-osweiler-mark-sanchez-derek-anderson/76036812/

Baltimore’s Matt Schwab ranks as the worst (32nd) backup QB in the NFL.  Now that Flacco is done for the year and Scwab is the starter, Tresman goes out and gets Jimmy Clausen, the second worst NFL backup (31st) his new backup!

How bad are Schwab and Clasuen?

#30 is Sean Renfree (Falcons), in three years in the league he has had one play.  He took a knee on the last play of a game two years ago.

#29 AJ McCarron (Bengels), he been in the league two years and he not thrown a pass.

In other words, Schwab and Clausen are literally worse than two guys that have not played in the league.  Restated, Schwab and Clausen are worse than picking guys out of the stands!!

Is he a better QB option than Schwab and/or Clausen?
