Providence Friars - Big East Tournament Champs
« on: March 15, 2014, 09:47:09 PM »
Heck of a game.  Cotton was incredible.  Phenomenal coaching job by Cooley - had to suspend his freshman class before the season, lost his point guard Dunn for the season in November.  Nice to see a classic BE team take the championship, especially one that hasn't been to the tournament in 10 years.

Yep, Fantastic game and great coaching.  Looking forward to lots more games like this from the NBE.

Ed Cooley has done a fantastic job.  I hope he stays there for the long run.  Very cool to see an original school win the league's championship this season.

It's looking like 4 schools into the tournament this year.  No bad for the first year...

Great game, the PC kids seem to love their coach.  Their hustle was off the charts.

CU had their chances, but kept letting Wragge, Chatman and Manigualt fire away as opposed to McBuckets having the ball every time.  McBuckets missed one at end, but man does he have range.

Congrats PC......

The BE Media Guide will list them as the "2014 Big East Champions" just like this year's media guide called Louisville the 2013 Big East Champions (with no mention of MU or Gtown)

Anyway, congrats to PC.

11. Lunardi and Palm had them as the last four in.

Cotton is irreplaceable and Batts is a really good player too, but they should be ok next year.  Henton, Harris, and Fortune return, Dunn back from injury, one of the suspended freshmen stuck around, and three top 100 recruits coming in.

Was wondering if this is still going to be the case?  I noticed Fox is calling it the "Big East Tournament", where ESPN was always careful to only refer to it as the "Big East Championship", where the Big East Champion was the winner of the tournament, similar to the ACC except that the BE conference also recognizes regular season champions.

Was thinking the same.  RPI all the way up to about 34 now, which would fit.  Was going to be mid-50's with a loss.

Good catch.  I suppose I shouldn't have been presumptuous.  I'm gonna go over to Holyland and see if anybody over there knows.

Congrats, Friars. Great run.

Thought for a minute there I was going to have to get on the court and call TO.

Would have rather seen Creighton win, but it was a great game.

Wow ... nobody can accuse these refs of not letting the kids play. In the last 10 minutes especially, Creighton was playing like it was football or rugby. Freakin' Gibbs literally was tackling guys.

And yet Providence was strong enough to play through it and truly earned this victory by setting the tempo, getting the rebounds and hitting the big shots, including all their FTs down the stretch.

An entertaining first NBE championship team won by a deserving team.

Just left game.  Big East is alive and well.  MSG was near capacity and the crowd was louder than last year's
Match between Ville and Syracuse.  The Garden's make over is phenomenal.  The scoreboard is unreal.

L'ville and Cincinnati in 2012 was a flat crowd. Everyone was saying you need a east coast school in Villanova,  St. John's or Georgetown. People forgot about Providence.

What a great game and great result for the league.

Humblebrag... I texted some buddies during Prov-St Johns game saying that the Friars were going to win the Big East tournament.  They just had that chemistry and execution going so well.  I hope they can continue it in the ncaa's.  I thought they'd get a 10 seed, but most everyone is saying 12 seed.  If so, that 5-seed should watch out.
