Well if we don't get one or two this year our dreams of an NIT invite are over.

No way do we win at Georgetown. This team will finish 9-9, I hope.

Until they decide to commitment to actually playing defense and rebounding they will continue to be average.  This team has not been committed to defense under Buzz.  They just try to out score everyone.

More negative posters, great. We have a decent shot at winning against Gtown. They have NOT at all been the team people thought they were going to be.

and this team still has a shot at 11-7... if Buzz decides to enforce D.

You think we can change our identity on defense (or, more accurately, establish one) when we've played 3/4 of our games?

No, but I think 11-7 is very possible even with our ugly defense and rebounding.

Lets not say that quite yet, they did almost win @Uconn. They're terrible this year anyhow.

Last time we went down there we were 20-2 (9-0) and lost. Not to be negative, just saying.

Fair enough.  I was just talking about emphasizing the D at this juncture.

MU held Villanova below their season averages in points per game at home (including ppg vs Big East), shooting percentage, three-point shooting percentage, assists and rebounds tonight, and we're griping about the defense?
No, the defense wasn't great by any stretch, but it was adequate. They held Nova at or below their average in every major category, and did it in a building in which they've now won 46 games straight.
Villanova simply was/is the better team.

As for rebounding, given MU's size woes, it's not nearly as bad as some would have us believe. MU's actually sixth in the league in rebounding average, with five our the team's conference games against teams on the plus side of that statistic (i.e. they're not just feasting on poor rebounding teams).

No. We're simply pointing out that at this late date, defense isn't suddenly going to become the team's calling card. We are what we are.

We are good this season.  We have six games we should win and say we win five.  That is ten big east wins.  Then we should lose to gtown and uconn on the road.  We win one and are at eleven and could get a good seed.  Tonight was a tough game on the road and we will be fine.

I think that train sailed a long time ago.

Have you looked at the schedule? USF, St John's, Seton Hall twice, Providence, Cincinnati. We should be favored in all six of those games. Avoid the bad loss and we get to 11-7.

This team has clearly demonstrated they can play with any team in this conference. Are they as good as Villanova, Pittsburgh, UConn? Probably not. Are they good enough to go knock off one of those teams on the road? Not quite.

People want to point to close losses as a sign of some sort of coaching deficiency. I'd suggest you can argue just the opposite. This team is in every game, even against better opponents. Some of the second half melt downs have been disappointing, but from an opponent standpoint, I defy anyone to show me the bad loss on MU's schedule this year.

People are upset with losing to Villanova at the Pavillion, or want to read some sort of greater meaning into that? Seriously? We aren't as good as Villanova. Did anyone really not know that 24 hours ago?

Aside from just a few posts I dont see people "upset".  Discussing the loss and wondering what we could have done better to win, yes.  This has to have been the least amount of traffic after and during an MU game vs a top 10 team on this site in history.  The posts I have read since the game has ended seem to have mostly been very level headed and fair.

Maybe it's cause some people are banned and the posts just are not quite as entertaining?

This is spot on.

The second half of the schedule is more favorable for MU. They've started it 0-1 but it wouldn't be wildly out of context to expect them to finish 6-2 for the 11-7 record.

I still think they can get South Florida and Georgetown. If they do, it provides great momentum with the Johnnies and Hall in town the following week.

Negative? How about realistic. what have you been watching the past two months. 2-8 against ranked teams is pretty poor. 11-7, not happening.
