Last year Marquette vs. Syracuse at home (ideal seats, surprising comeback, enthusiastic crowd and I attended with good friend from Syracuse, which made it just a bit sweeter).

This is the game that came to my mind as well.

But then I thought harder, and I think beating #2 UCONN in our first BigEast game is a better selection.

The Novak 3 vs ND was great basketball.  But the most fun I had at a game was the "bradley center bat game" vs Providence.  The PA guy started playing the BatMan theme.  Jake Thomas was trying to swat it out of mid air.  It dive bombed Ed Cooley as well as some forward from Providence who had to do a Matrix-style slow-motion-duck-and-lean to avoid it.  When they finally got it, the PA guy played "I will always love you" by whitney houston and the crowd sang along.  The delay killed the team's momentum, but it fueled the crowd.  I had at least a beer and a half during the interruption.

January of my Freshman year Rivers half court  buzzer beater against ND

I have 2.

MU vs. ND in 1981 (my junior year). Glenn Rivers wins the game with halfcourt heave at the buzzer. The Arena is up for grabs. Michael Wilson (an excellent player from that era) celebrates by climbing up on the basket and sitting on the rim.

MU vs Duke in 1980 (my sophomore year). Game is held at Dane County Coliseum in Madison because NBC wanted it for that day and the Arena was booked. Unlike now, being on national TV was an immense honor back then because it was the only game on. Duke was a top 10 team and had All-Americans Mike Gminski and Gene Banks, among others. We built a big lead behind Oliver Lee and then held off a furious Dookie rally. Because the game was held in Madison, lots of alums didn't bother making the trip but lots of students did. It was a loud, raucous crowd and we stormed the court when it was over.

The Duke game had bigger implications -- we don't get an NCAA bid that year without it -- and it was an absolutely incredible atmosphere. But because I hate ND with every fiber of my being, and because I got to know Rivers quite well, that one has an extra special spot in my heart.

Yeah, that Duke game at Dane County Colliseum was a unique event.  Actually,  there were a lot of alums there as there were many bus loads from the MU campus sponsored by the Minuteman Club.  Good game.

The Duke game at Dane was a fun day and great win. Doc beating ND is high on the list as well. Not sure if I can pick a favorite, but if I had to it would be Luke beating the Badgers and Al on score table afterwards. Lot of great memories over the years.

MU - Louisville March 2, 2010

The team (and coach) is emotionally burned out, growing their hair out to protect their brains and needs a win.  MU finishes its 4th straight win in 10 days to play there way into the tourney.  The whole game was on edge but then MU just started taking it to Pitino -- he sits down in disgust -- then

- DJO reaches above the backboard to slam home a putback miss
- Buzz Freaks out on the side-line - everyone loves it
- Team clinches NCAA berth - fans go crazy
- Brad Forrester develops Walk It Out Fosse You-Tube Clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HVd493yAhM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HVd493yAhM)
- Millions of players transfer into then out of program
- Shady dealings Happen
- Brad Forrester Dis-owns Buzz
- Three Sweet 16s ensue
- Buzz freak outs no longer seem cool
- Wojo replaces Buzz -- maybe Forrester comes back

A lot has happened since that game

So much frustration from their cursed zone.  Seemed like the only game that we played where we had a clue what to do against it.  The crowd and the program seemed very hungry for that win.

Watching Wade play was something special to watch.

There are quite a few that stand-out (2004-Present),  but I'm going with the Conference Title clinching game at the Garden last year.

UConn 2006 and Notre Dame 2006 are certainly up there.

It was a loss, but the Georgetown game in 2008 was a lot of fun up until DJ fouled freaking Jonathan Wallace. I'll never forget the barrage of glo-sticks raining down from the upper-deck. Something tells me glo-sticks will not be making a reappearance anytime soon.

Yeah, this my favorite moment.  My friends already had tickets so I had to find just one seat.  I got "scalped" seats for $70 and was like five rows back from center court.  I was surrounded by Kentucky fans but they were pretty quiet for most of the game.   8-)

MU vs UL on 2/15/03. Stayed up drinking all night and went to the Bradley Center at 5 AM to get in line. I think UL was ranked #2 at the time. Spectacular game. Diener's game tying 3 with something like 15 seconds left, and Reece Gaines shooting over the trap and burying a 26 foot 3 pointer to beat us. The outcome sucked at the time, but I think that game gave the boys the confidence that we could hang with the big boys that year.

The Wake Forest game that season was pretty awesome too.

I agree with this sentiment. Also, I'm not sure people remember just how dominant that Kentucky team was and the position they were in as not only odds-on favorites to win title but many felt it was simply a National Champion procession they were on in Minneapolis on the way to New Orleans.

Snapping Bucky's 28-game winning streak at the Kohl in December '07.  For every Badger fan who berated me with profanities on their way out, I just smiled, pointed to the scoreboard and said, "Remember that time you didn't win 29 home games in a row?"

Back in '68, I believe. My dad took me to the old Arena to see Pete Maravich. Became a huge MU and George Thompson fan that night.

Pistol would have averaged over 50 pts. a game if there was a three point shot back then. One of only 4 can players I remember where people were on their feet every time they had the ball (Connie Hawkins, young Doctor J, and a young Michael being the other 3).

Novak ND Game hands down. I'll repost this:

It was the night of January 20th, 2006.

It was only a few hours after Steve Novak dropped the game winning three-pointer with 1.3 seconds left against Notre Dame.

It was 17 hours after PTM and a group of Schroedor Hall residents starting drinking that morning.

The Morning
In lieu of the standard PTM big gameday morning of strapping on a faux beer belly filled with assorted alcoholic spirits and standing in line at the Bradley Center all day long for seats in Section 106, I had decided to join some friends in early morning drinking.

We opened up with kegs & eggs at a Renee Row courtyard apartment until the early afternoon. While enjoyable we spent the majority of the time chasing freshmen and other unwanteds away from the patio that was being heated with an industrial heater. After tapping out the third barrel of Lite we moved onto Jim Hegarty's for lunch. Things get a little blurry after this....Jim's Timeout was involved....and Buck Bradley's....and maybe Duke's....maybe.

The Game

Completely inebriated. I remember two things. The first being the Steve Novak shot and Mike Kinsella owning Torin Francis. I spent the majority of the time after the game declaring that junior Mike Kinsella had arrived, even though #20's shot was the true story. I remember a foggy, but extremely spirited walk back to campus after the night game.

The Residence Hall

As a sophomore I resided in Mashuda with fellow Top 10 Scoop poster, TallTitan34. After supposedly alienating our third resident into moving out of our room at Winter Break, we had the triple sized room to ourselves that was completely altered into different levels and a mega bunk bed. Completely irrelavant to the story, but levels, Jerry, levels.

http://www.youtube.com/v/aQyXeLSL0II

After the game, we ended up back in Schroedor to dabble in some after game spirits. As you all likely know, Schroedor has a turnstyle system that is guarded by the Desk Receptionist. Being a Mashuda residence, I had to get checked in.

After a bit of time in a room, the Night Duty RAs knocked on the door. We weren't attracting attention, but whatever that's a different topic as we were profiled.

The two RAs came into the room, and asked for all the of non-Schroedor residents to leave. Myself and another then left the room and went down a couple floors to hang out with another resident. We only half-thought at the time that the RAs just wanted us to step outside the room, not leave entirely.

We spent a good 20-30 minutes in another friend's room before word starting getting to us that DPS had entirely shut down all admittance and departures from the building. Additionally, all of the elevators were brought down to the first floor and locked there.

After trying to strategize a way out, we decided we were pretty much boned. The desk receptionist had us checked in under the resident who got busted and they had our MU IDs, even an escape would land us in additional trouble.

We took the stairs down to the lobby, walked up to the DPS officer manning the desk and said we needed to check out, but we couldn't find our resident that checked us in. He was already holding our IDs and three officers then proceeded to take us in the back where the Hall offices were. The entire little holding area in-between the turnstyles and elevator was shoulder to shoulder, and the lines to get into the building were out both entrances.

DPS takes us into the back room and the RAs from the bust join them. After a spirited discussion about the RAs use of the words "non-Schroder residents leave the room", they RAs left to continue Night Duty. The three DPS officers were somewhat humorous. I asked what kind of punishment we were looking at. The older DPS officer of the three responded with, "I don't know, son. I've never had to do this, but I would have done the same thing if those peppy RAs pricks said to leave the room. However, you're facing the Residence Life Office, so you're probably unnatural carnal knowledgeed."

The Aftermath

Previously, I had already been punished for two alcohol related offenses in Mashuda. The following day was filled with panic stricken hand wringing as the Student Conduct board had informed me that my third offense would result in my expulsion from all residence halls.

A couple weeks later, I received a letter which basically stated I was not allowed in Schroedor Hall for the remainder of my time on campus. I never tried to go back, so I'm not sure how that would have been enforced.

After receiving the letter, I called DPS asking to talk to the older officer that night since I was expecting certain doom after this incident. The officer called me back several days later and explained he reported that the RAs should have been more direct in talking to us and he thought they were lying when they spoke to DPS officers about what they said trying to cover up their mistake. I later found out the two RAs received disciplinary action for lying to DPS officers as well.

#1:  December 16, 1995.

MU beats #22 Santa Clara and Steve Nash.
Why is it my fave?
1) MU won
2) A ranked team with a future HOFer lost
3) The most important...my only MU game in the MECCA.
4) Eford had a game-high 21 points. (Ok. I had to look it up: http://articles.latimes.com/1995-12-17/sports/sp-15066_1_santa-clara )

#2:  Any home win vs a ranked Cincy squad. I hated the (T)Huggies!

The 1977 NCAA Semi Final against UNC-Charlotte and Cornbread Maxwell.
MU owns the first half, loses much of the second.
Game tied with almost no time left, Al calls time. MU to in bound at the other end.
Butch launches a pass to the other end that Bo and Cornbread both touch but ending in Whitehead's hands who immediately goes to the basket for a lay-in as clock goes to zero.
Did it count? No call.
Ref's, Al, players and various hangers-on go to the scorer's table.
We all wait for what seems like eternity.
Prayers from all the MU faithful.
Prayers answered as Al raises his hands to heaven.
We all go nuts for what seems like eternity.

So many really.

vs ND and Doc's shot
vs UW and Luke's shot
vs Jacksonville as #22's last game
vs South Carolina with Dunleavy
vs UNLV
vs UNC
vs DePaul with Aguirre, Dillard, Grubbs, Cummings
vs any Milwaukee Classic Championship game
vs any Big Ten team
vs any nationally televised game
vs any of the home winnin' streak

I always came to watch the Warriors. Opponents never mattered to me.

2) November 1975 -- The Russians. This was the Olympic team that stole the gold medal just three years before. We sent them to basketball Siberia with this game. It wasn't close despite the fact we were playing International Rules. It was the night we knew we had something very special.

Cobb and Jeff Sewell.  In the crowd that night, the Kentucky fans were inciting the crowd by waving confederate flags, the crowd was nuts.  To bad, the next game they lost in overtime to

Too bad, the next game they lost in overtime to Purdue and Rick Mount.

Especially since we were down by one at the end of regulation and had two free throws. We hit one to take it into overtime, but missed the other that would have won it.

Mount hit like a 22 footer with three seconds left. Much as I hate to say it now, Purdue's Rick Mount was a great ballplayer in his time.

That UK game was special. Our guys were tough and not willing to take the crap the UK fans handed out. Adolph, you're still an ass!

I believe this was the one in 1973 where we had one of the nastiest brawls ever. That's what I liked about McGuire's teams. No crap from no one!

Bob Lackey et al wouldn't take it any more. Those Carolina finness players didn't know what hit them.

Wonderful thread.

I'm going to answer this with one from each era of my life so far.

1) The ORIGINAL Midnight Madness exhibition against the dreaded Russian team at the Arena in 1975.  For those that don't recall, Al scheduled the game at the stroke of midnight so MU would be in compliance with NCAA regulations not to begin play too early on the calendar.  It was Halloween weekend and all the students were in full party mode.  I was 14 years old and attended with my dad.  Decided that night where I wanted to go to school.

2) Doc from half court against ND my Sophomore year.

3) Davidson 2013. Perhaps the most emotional and joyous 2 minutes of my life as it pertains to MU hoops for reasons I didn't share in Lexington with the exception of one close friend.  You see, exactly 24 hours before the Davidson tip-off I had gotten the dreaded cancer diagnosis following some tests.  Funny, nurses never give you bad news.  It's always the doctor herself.  Anyway, I drove to Lexington alone Wednesday afternoon with a very heavy heart as chick couldn't come down until Friday.  Then magically, for a little while Thursday afternoon at least, MU hoops allowed me to forget.

By the way, I've kicked it in the ass and won so far.

I was there that night too. A sophomore at MU and loved every minute of it. Greatest home game ever. Yes, I was in full party mode. Beer was flowing all night. We could drink at 18 and the students were, well, 1970s era students.

Your Dad must have been neat. I forgot about the midnight part -- you're absolutely right. Any Dad that would take a teenager to a Marquette game at 12:01 a.m., has gotta be cool.

Neat memory!

"MU vs. ND in 1981 (my junior year). Glenn Rivers wins the game with halfcourt heave at the buzzer. The Arena is up for grabs. Michael Wilson (an excellent player from that era) celebrates by climbing up on the basket and sitting on the rim."

My favorite as well. God that was fun!

Actually, Michael asked me an another guy to lift him up to the rim. As we were lifting him, I decided to steal his shoe off his foot. He turned to me and said: "Give me my damn shoe!". The iconic photo is hanging at Caffery's Pub. Michael standing on the rim, Arm's spread in victory, something white in his hand. Yeah, his shoe, I returned it. Check out the picture next time you are at Caffery's

Just one word, and I think everyone will know the game I'm referring to: Kinsella.

Same.   The Game Day game.  Was in line to get in before midnight, then back in line for the actual game after the College Game Day show.  Only to find out minutes before that McNeal wouldn't play and thinking we were toast...then Kinsella.

By the way, I concur with everyone who remembers the 2003 UK game as one of the best. It was at the Baggiedome in Minneapolis. We were out in full force, just having defeated Pittsburgh. No one thought we could win. No one.

DWade went nuts that day. Best game he ever had, college or pro. Best game Tom Crean ever coached!

A lot of great games to choose from, but March 29, 2003 wins out for me. Being at the Metrodome to see MU beat Kentucky was the best. Outside of watching them win a National Championship, I don't know if it will ever be topped.

Agreed on all of this. Still one of my favorite days ever, much less favorite game.

Agreed on this, too. The BC was crazy. Upper deck was literally shaking during Wallace's FTs.

I attended every game of the of the 1970 NIT. Sure we were the favorites; especially after telling the NCAA to take a hike when they decided to send us to New Mexico for the regionals. The New York press was giving LSU all the head lines and Pistol Pete was the Big Man on Broadway which really got under AL's skin. It was in the the semifinal game we played LSU. I never seen an MU team so pumped for a game. Well to keep it short it was no contest; we shut down Pistol Pete (averaged 40+ points per game that year) who only scored around 20 for the entire game if my memory serves me; and it was the first time that an AL coached MU team scored over a 100 points. He showed no mercy and crushed them. He made the press wait almost an hour for his post game presser.

You guys forgot the best MU game in the 60's, the victory over Kentucky at the Old Fieldhouse in Madison.  The old south, all white, Issel, Pratt, Casey vs. George, Dean, Joe Thomas, Ric
Cobb and Jeff Sewell.  In the crowd that night, the Kentucky fans were inciting the crowd by waving confederate flags, the crowd was nuts.  To bad, the next game they lost in overtime to
Purdue and Rick Mount.

I was there for both.... and saying Rick Mount still leaves a bad taste in my mouth; what a shooter he was though.

I believe this was the one in 1973 where we had one of the nastiest brawls ever. That's what I liked about McGuire's teams. No crap from no one!

Bob Lackey et al wouldn't take it any more. Those Carolina finness players didn't know what hit them.

1972.  Mike Dunleavy was a freshman and could not play.

National TV at South Carolina. South Carolina had Brian Winters, Kevin Joyce and maybe John Roach.  Awesome guards.

Lackey got into fight with Tom Riker (6ft10, 240) and Lackey kicked his butt with a few facial punches. Larry McNeil picked up a chair and was about to beat anyone who came close.  MU won by one point.

Here's one I'll suggest....

Anyone remember the "Marquardt game"?

It was my frosh year.  Dean had been recovering from a car accident, and one of his first games back was against ND.  Notre Dame had Lambier and Flowers on that team

Dean owned that day, having to do double duty against an ND team that had 10 fouls to throw at him.  The game is a favorite because of how well Dean did, and we beat ND!

In chronological order:

1. March 1968 - Marquette beats Bowling Green U (now Bowling Green St) on the campus of Kent State for Al McGuire's first NCAA tournament win at MU. Jimmy Burke hits a 20 footer in the final second for the win.
2. March 1969 - Led by George Thompson the Warriors upset Kentucky in Madison to reach the Elite 8.
3. March 1970 - Al says stick it to the NCAA and takes the team to New York to win the NIT. The most fun game was the semi final rout of LSU and Pete Maravich.

Lot's more after that but they're never quite as sweet as when you were a student and knew the players personally.

Wasn't there because I had an organizational function but we were listening to the game backstage knowing that a win would send us to NY.

And when we heard MU won and found out there was going to be a run down to the lake, a bunch of us booked it! Cold, snowy, dark...awesome memories!

5)  Notre Dame 2006. Steve Novak. Buzzer beater. Enough said.
4)  Cincinnati 2002.  First big game I attended in my freshman year. Ended a 20 game Cincy winning streak.  Rushed the court from section 106, and still have the picture of Dwyane Wade being carried off by the students with the American flag in the background hanging in my living room to this day.
3)  Louisville 2003. Dizzying, dizzying game, if I recall right there were something like 15 ties, 21 lead changes, and no team with more than a 6 point lead at any point. The roof nearly collapsed when Diener hit they tying 3, but I've never heard a building go from 120 decibels to a pindrop as quick as I did when Reece Gaines pulled up and nailed the winning 3.
2)  Syracuse 2013.  Crowd was completely dead in the water and frustrated to all hell until the 4 or so minute mark of the first half, then Jake hit the 3 and go fouled, and the crowd just blasted off like a turbo charged rocket.  Lived and died on every single possession of that second half and stood for probably the last 10 minutes.  Never had felt as physically or emotionally exhausted at a Marquette game in my life as I did when the final buzzer sounded.
1) @ St. John's 2013. Sitting just behind the St. John's student section, feeling really good when Marquette had a double digit lead, and in a near catatonic state as they squandered a 9 point lead with 3 minutes left in regulation to head to overtime.  Vander hit the game winning layup at the hoop we were sitting beyond and we became Big East champions.

Honorable mentions: @ Wisconsin 2007 (first MU win at the Kohl Center), Pittsburgh 2006 (Aaron Gray bricks 2 potential game winning free throws with 5.5 seconds left and Marquette beats a 2nd ranked team in 3 days), Cincinnati 2003 (Marquette clinches the CUSA title), Notre Dame 2013 (wire to wire win on Senior Day in the last scheduled Marquette-ND meeting), Louisville 2010 (first home win over Louisville since 2004)

One of my more memorable games has to be MU vs. WVU when we had multiple players sit in the first half and Jae just absolutely took over after being down by a pretty good margin.

Bruzz proceeded to dance on the floor. We left ASAP and snuck out of there so as not to get jumped by some unruly fans.

Beating UK in Tampa, 1994.  Thrashed them.  They were never in the game.  Tony Miller beat their press time after time.

Really loved the Doc game in 1981, beating TryPuker and the Domers.  That was a very easy team to hate.  Tripucka, Flowers, and the most unlikeable Domer ever, Bill Laimbeer.

Best road trip ever.  6 college buds, beer, golf, spring training baseball, MU hoops, beating UK.  Did I say beer?

We watched the Tournament selection show together, and told our wives how disappointed we were that MU didn't receive a game closer to home.  They weren't buying it.

Easily 2003 over Kentucky in Minneapolis.  Not even close.

Top 3 regular season games in order:
1) At UW-Madison in 2007.  Didn't tell any of our Madison friends we would be there.  Sat 10th row in the middle of the student section.  Had a huge sign with a picture of Bryan Butch in a bikini top saying 03 McD's AA, 08 McD's employee.  Game was already won, but Dominic ended it with a massive block just towering over their point guard.  Lazar ran from the other end of the court and pointed to the 3 of us wearing yellow.  Their fans were not happy with us.  Ran across their campus, slipped into our friends' dorm, and showed up at their door.  They were not happy either.
2) Novak's shot to beat ND.
3) First BE game, smoking #2 UCONN.
HM) Dameon Mason's and 1 to beat Louisville.

Best overall weekend, Lexington last year (2013).  Win on a miracle comeback over Davidson, then watched about as good of a game as I can remember seeing with both teams playing really well against Butler.

They had to hold us back from rushing the court while they put about .6 back on the clock and let Mason make his free throw.  We still rushed after the failed Louisville inbounds play.

The best game I ever attended live? Well, it was beating Notre Dame at the Bradley Center in 2006. I've never heard the building that loud and I don't know if I ever will again.

But in advance of the 2012-13 schedule coming out, my college friends and I realized that there would be no road game at DePaul, no road game at ND, and no road game at Madison. We try to go on at least one MU road trip a year, and the next closest away trip was either Louisville or Cincinnati, but at that point, we figured if we were going to travel 6+ hours to the game, let's at least go somewhere fun.

Fortunately the schedule came out and the game at St. John's was on a Saturday afternoon on the last day of the season. I'm the guy in gold running down the aisle barrelling into my friends.

You guys have mentioned some great ones.  I have one that is a favorite for more personal reasons.

The 2012 home game against Georgetown was Accepted Students Day.  jsglow jr. brought along a friend of his from high school, Tyler, who had also gotten accepted at MU.  He was a truly brilliant kid whose parents were of rather limited means.  He was accepted into several other prestigious schools, but we were putting on the Warriors hard sell.

We parked near campus and walked towards the BC.  We happened to be following a group of male students who chanted "We're not that drunk!" all the way there.  Tyler's reaction?  "This is awesome!"

We took the boys into the Courtside Club for lunch, and then lined up to high-five the team as they ran onto the court.  As we walked out into the arena, around the court past the band and the student section, he was in awe.

As you may recall, this was the first time the student section tried the "I believe that we will win" cheer, and with the team's help, pulled it off brilliantly.

http://www.youtube.com/v/3AF2ki9Y4rs?hl=en_US&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

We wound up with great victory that day.  Tyler was sold.

This game was one of my favorites because I think sometimes I take for granted how awesome it is to be a Marquette basketball fan, and I got a chance to see it through new eyes.

Unfortunately, Tyler's family couldn't make the numbers work to send him, and he wound up at community college.  I am still hoping he can transfer in; unfortunately, the scholarship aid for transfer students at Marquette completely sucks.

The game was savory but the following sequence of events leading up to this made it even better.

I had a business meeting at the Hyatt in Chicago the week before that game.  It was probably Wednesday when I saw Brey, Harangody, and Zeller in the hallway between our meeting room and the room next door where they were meeting.  I mentioned that I was looking forward to the game in Milwaukee on Saturday.  I can't remember what the exchange was but I do recall that I said I was looking forward to an MU victory.

This was between the DePaul and MU games and the room was being set up Thursday afternoon for what appeared to be a dinner with alumni or boosters.  They had tables set up with a bar and a podium at the front of the room with a flip chart off to the side.  I wandered in there later in the evening after our meeting.  On the second page of the flip chart I took a blue marker and wrote "Go Marquette!" and covered it back to the first page.  I don[t know the outcome but hopefully that was a nice turd in the punchbowl.

I got light headed just be jumping around so much and screaming at the tops of my lungs. What a feeling.
