A 4 seed, two 5 seeds and a 9 seed make the Final 4.
Meanwhile all the top seeded teams and/or the top NIL paying basketball schools either failed to make the tournament or were done before the end of the first weekend.
My abysmal Chase Savings account that pays a mere .10% in comparison to 9% real inflation all the sudden doesn't look like such a poor investment in comparison to NIL basketball donations.
Truly shocking! Can't believe paying 18 to 22 year olds who are still kids and learning about life and money would turn out to be such a bad investment to make. No one saw this coming! ::)

How do you know which are the top NIL paying basketball schools?

Isn't Miami regarded as one of the most aggressive NIL programs out there?
-
Miami

If Shaka hired a gray haired assistant, NIL wouldn't be necessary.

What is an NIL paying basketball school? Not allowed.
The best teams are those who reward their student-athletes with extravagant milkshakes

But if you combine the amounts that the school itself, the unaffiliated NIL collectives, and local businesses/restaurants giving players deals and/or money for advertising them then you have NIL paying basketball schools. Why do you ignore this?

NIL does not stand for assault rifle.

Posting this after watching Nijel Pack and Norchad Omier play major roles in bringing Miami to their first Final Four ever is certainly a choice. ;D ;D ;D

Miami is ahead of the curve
https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2023/03/28/final-four-nil-marketing-power-of-um-fau-teams.html (https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2023/03/28/final-four-nil-marketing-power-of-um-fau-teams.html)
"The LifeWallet deal with Kansas State transfer Nijel Pack was reportedly $800,000 for two years, and he wound up winning MVP of the Midwest Region in the NCAA Tournament. The LifeWallet team also includes his teammates Jordan Miller, Norchad Omier and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Isaiah Wong. As the Hurricanes head to a high-profile national semifinal game and enjoy a week of pre-game publicity, Ruiz’s LifeWallet brand also will garner the spotlight."
Far from concluding this is a poor investment, the success of Miami this year is going to be held up as the example that if you do NIL right, it definitely leads to success.
The other problem with the original post is that it only considers the final result in its definition of success--I doubt Houston is not going to give up on lining up NIL for players because they were upset before the final four. The learning there is that their NIL program put them in a position to succeed this year. They fell short, but that doesn't mean it was a poor investment.

Here is an actual listing of top 100 NILers in college BB...they are all over numerous teams, including on FF teams;

I fail to see any of the pattern or correlation you claim
There is short sample period on NIL info., but it is safe to say the best players are getting more NIL

From the site:
“While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career.”
Looks like mostly a side project that throws social media followers, stats, and their team into a blender and spits out a “valuation.”

Except for #40 on that list. That is the exact amount the MU donor paid to keep him from going to UW.

Lol. Miami making the Final Four is only going to make NIL money get even stupider in the short term. They are the poster child for buying a team with NIL money.

The challenge to coaches is seeing that list, reviewing the transfer portal and ask how many of the guys in the portal are transferring for larger payments?
Big question -- sad answer is too many.

No. Universities don’t provide NIL $ to student-athletes.
However, there are organizations out there that are non-profits to which donations are tax-deductible

We all understand that Be The Difference is a separate business organization that is not formally owned by Marquette University.
In other words, it's Marquette's collective in the same way Fiserv is Marquette's arena, Avenues West is Marquette's neighborhood, or Sodexo is Marquette's food service supplier.

Coloquially referring to Be The Difference as “Marquette’s” NIL is 100% acceptable. Your line of argument is pedantic beyond belief. Reminds me of something you’d hear in an English 101 class discussion at MU.

I don't disagree with your premise, but the answer to your question is the NCAA. They abdicated their responsibility in this domain years ago and instead lobbied Congress for a solution they couldn't come up with. Had they initiated NIL back in 2019 before this all took off, and started it with the caveat that players could not sign NIL deals until after serving a year in residence (similar to the already existent transfer year in residence rule) they would've not only provided a framework but made the "can't be used as a recruiting tool" notion something that actually worked.
Instead, they refused to take any action, preferring to deny any revenue to the players, instead keeping every last penny they could for the member institutions. NCAA greed is why we are where we are today, and why Manchin and Tuberville are trying to draft rules to oversee what the NCAA decided it couldn't.

For the Legal Eagles in here, won't this get knocked down as a State's Rights issue with state employment laws in play?
It sounds too that this would legislate the NCAA as a legal monopoly like MLB? Free from most FTC oversight? And yet there is also the College Football Playoff organization which is not officially awarded by the NCAA (and NIL is all about football)?
As in all things, the lawyers will make money in this tangled web. The NCAA are whores is the ket takeaway. Cheeks and Billy are rolling in their Scoop graves.

Marquette & Tyler have a joint post up selling Tyler gear. The shirts features action shots of TK in MU uniform.

You are missing the bigger picture, MU is working with their athletes to allow them to sell images that includes MU marks. That's not insignificant.

It's actually a very big deal. I wonder if someone -- BTD NIL perhaps -- is paying MU to allow athletes to use the MU mark on their own merchandise. Would it be a NCAA violation if MU gave that right to the athletes for free? Are there still "NCAA violations" at all when it comes to athlete compensation?
-

NCAA Interim Guidelines:
https://www.ncaa.org/news/2022/10/26/media-center-di-board-approves-clarifications-for-interim-nil-policy.aspx
"Schools also can support their enrolled college athletes in NIL activities directly by providing stock photos or graphics to either a student-athlete or an NIL entity or arranging space on campus for an entity and student-athlete to meet. Schools cannot, under the interim policy, provide free services (graphic designers, tax preparation or contract review) to student-athletes unless those services are available to the general student body, nor can schools offer equipment (cameras, graphics software or computers) to student-athletes to support NIL activities, unless that equipment is also available to the general student body."
Note that no MU logos are on Tyler's merchandise.
-
You are missing the bigger picture, MU is working with their athletes to allow them to sell images that includes MU marks. That's not insignificant.
False! MU does not work with SAs to broker deals. MU CANNOT negotiate deals. MU requires prior approval from all companies who seek to use MU athletics logos.
-
I never said brokering deals I said they are working with them to allow of use of school marks and they are working with them to amplify the message.

As far as how NIL is working in the real world (not the NCAA's imagination), my daughter's good friend is a second string DB for an AAC school. He gets $40k a year, doesn't know exactly where it comes from and has never been asked to endorse anything or work for any of the money.

Marquette & Tyler is the subject. To have is the verb and joint post is the direct object. Selling Tyler gear is the action of the direct object, not Marquette and not even Tyler. Lens was correct.

If it were only shared by the marquette.nil.store and tagged marquette.basketball I would agree. But that's not the case. It was shared by the Marquette Basketball account.
