Ahmed Hill @MedHill_14 10h
Attention all MU fans!!! I'm truly sorry!!
-
So was Scoop shut down because of Hill's announcement? (Not sure if I should use teal or not)
-
Classy tweet. Good luck, Ahmed.
-
Wish U all the best Ahmed, Godspeed!!!
-
Best of luck to Ahmed. Hope he finds a good fit where his talents can shine.
-

I think you're right.
-
Didn't have to say anything, but did anyway.
Wish him luck.
-
Obviously, I wish he was coming here, but that was a very classy message. He laid out the reasons for his decision, which were understandable, and he is leaving graciously. I wish this kid only the best.
-
This sucks big time. He's going to be a stud. Good luck to him wherever he goes.
-
Just hope he doesn't follow Buzz to VT. This kid deserves better.
-
Aside from him needing to charge his phone, I wish him all the best. Very classy message to MU and all MU fans. I wish him all the best.
-
Wow! His honesty is refreshing. Sorry you're not coming and best of luck whatever it is you do.
I knew there had to be a reason Scoop crashed.......
-
He wrote the note on April 10 but did not tweet it out until yesterday (apr 16)
Did he need 6 days to charge his phone? What's with this timing?
-
What are the chances he goes to VT?
-
Hill's statement was very classy. Too bad there are idiots out there like this guy that give Marquette a bad name.
BR @BRisAbully 11h
@MedHill_14 Buzz is a hillbilly, your tattoo sucks, you don't know how to write, your shot is weak, and ya don't smash.
-
What are the chances he goes to VT?
Higher than the subsequent chances of VT giving us a refund for the chartered flights their coach used to recruit him after he fully knew he wasn't trying to get him to come here.
-
Just hope he doesn't follow Buzz to VT. This kid deserves better.
I disagree. I hope he does, he obviously has a relationship with Buzz and that is what matters. Say what you want but Buzz has been a mentor to many young men, and is a positive role model.
Can we have one day on this board without bashing Buzz or Crean.
-

You always want to hope that your MU education actually means something. Then there are the few who set out to prove it doesn't.
-
Can we have one day on this board without bashing Buzz or Crean.
We did. Yesterday.
-
Good luck to Ahmed.
I'm glad that it's settled, one way or another, so we can look ahead to next season at what we have for sure.
-
You always want to hope that your MU education actually means something. Then there are the few who set out to prove it doesn't.
Not a requisite to graduate to be a fan.
-
Does that mean we have an open scholarship for next season? Does Wojo go the JUCO route?
-
Wojo going the JUCO route would be the ultimate upset. I would anticipate that there will be decommits from other schools and possibly a 1-year rental.
-
Next!
-
Matt Carlino might be solid option.
-
This is a loss for the Program. he said he would go to MU, unless he heard something he did not like when talking to Wojo. Wonder what it was?
-
It is reality. When there is a coaching change players decommit. Happens to every program.
-
Best of luck Ahmed.
-
This is a loss for the Program. he said he would go to MU, unless he heard something he did not like when talking to Wojo. Wonder what it was?
Doubt it was anything he said. Time to move on my friend. These decisions can be more emotion than logic for all of us so no point trying to guess the reason.
-
This is a loss for the Program. he said he would go to MU, unless he heard something he did not like when talking to Wojo. Wonder what it was?
Maybe Wojo wasn't completely sold on Hill and that came across to Hill.
I think there is way too much hand wringing about recruits. It is a loss to be sure, but there are other players. Who knows how any of these guys will turn out. Jamil Wilson was a top 10 recruit at one point. Davante Gardner was a 3 star (I think). Let Wojo bring in his own guys. The more important thing to me is keeping existing players on the team, and he has done that.
-
Agreed. Losing the majority of a recruiting class is not unusual. See Williams, Nick, and Taylor, Ty. Buzz was able to use his JUCO contacts to land Butler. It is my impression that Wojo wasn't planning on leaving Duke and as such, doesn't have a ready-made list of players who were going to follow him. So he is going to have to start at zero. His first challenge at MU.
-
Does that mean we have an open scholarship for next season? Does Wojo go the JUCO route?
Right now all 9 existing non-seniors are staying.
Chief Cohen has re-commited.
So 10 players for sure.
Hill, Shayok have asked for their release. Pierce has said nothing.
So we have three open scholarships.
We need more than 10 players. Can barely hold a scrimmage. How do you scrimmage if someone is sick/hurt/has a test?
Banking scholarships would be a disastrous idea. Wojo has to get bodies!!
-
My instinct is that Wojo probably turned him down at Duke. It is hard for a kid to separate the two situations. A loss for sure but we will soldier on. Nice that Hill was straightforward on it. Hopefully he does well .
-
Whatever team gets Hill is going to get a hell of a player. Recruiting is about relationships and it's hard to argue with his logic. Wish he were still going to MU but I wish him the best whatever he decides.
-
Jabari Brown declared for the NBA yesterday, opening up minutes at Missouri. I would be surprised if he goes anywhere else.
As others have stated, best of luck to Ahmed, wish him well.
-
Didn't have to say diddley, but expressed his situation in a classy manner. Pretty cool for a HS kid.
-
Classy move by him, but this sucks for us. I still try to keep this in perspective though. If Buzz stays, we probably lose JJJ and Taylor but keep Hill. As excited as I was for Hill, I don't think I would make that trade. Now go out and get someone else!
-
classy move...i'll pull for the kid...just hope he doesn't end up at VT.
will be interesting to see what wojo can do moving forward related to recruiting.
-

will be interesting OR SCARYto see what wojo can do moving forward related to recruiting.
Edited. That's my only concern with Wojo as head coach. Can he recruit? MU isn't Duke as everyone knows...but perhaps it could be if we could retain a really good coach for 15-20 years and make it into a Duke..
-

My concern is we miss out on Stone, Ellenson and Schwartz and instead get players like Heldt who while a good player, is not in the same class as the above 3.
-
Maybe Wojo wasn't completely sold on Hill and that came across to Hill.
You're embarrassing yourself. Florida is going after him hard. Missouri, Va Tech, Ga Tech, etc. I'm sure Wojo called him and said he wasn't good enough. Jesus.
-

Wojo will make his imprint on the 2016 class. That will be the first year that the relationship is solely with Marquette. plus he will have a season under his management to demonstrate.
-
Matt Carlino might be solid option.
A name I mentioned two weeks ago.
Back on topic with Hill, may be the classiest public de-commit I've ever come across. Hill had a strong relationship with Buzz so this news shouldn't come as a shock, though, it's nice to see he gave time to meet with Wojo and clearly thought through his decision. Looking forward to seeing how he turns out as a college player.

The guy has gone through more schools in the last 8 years than Canadian Dimes has usernames here on Scoop.

Maybe he should talk to the current players, who all named Buzz as the major reason they went to MU. Yet 2 of them routinely transfered every year. I'm a Hill fan, bummed he isn't attending Marquette. He's going to be a good one I think.
-

He left UCLA because Howland allowed him to be bullied for a year. I think he even had his shoulder separated at one point in practice. I watched BYU at Bradley center, Carlinonis really good. He was off with his jumper, but a really smooth player with great quickness.
-
Matt is very good player and his path to BYU is not as checkered as some may think. He would be great addition for a year.
-

Agree with all of this, especially the second part.
We don't know what Wojo wants in a player. Maybe there was a red flag in their conversation for him, or Ahmed. Never know.
This is all part of the dance with a coaching change. Can't hold it against the kid, or the coach.
-

I'm sure we can. We'll just have keefe go into play ground bully mode so he find a bunch of pictures of men who are fat, ugly and wearing garish, ridiculous looking clothes which he can post, telling everyone that they are pictures of you.
Actually, after this post, I'm sure that keefe will want to say that they are pictures of me.
-

Thanks for pointing that that this was a loss for the Program. I really appreciate how you were able to expand that observation to make your first veiled attack on Coach Wojo after only 16 days. (Unless, of course, I've missed an earlier attack)
-
Matt Carlino might be solid option.
Do we really want to take a chance with another Mormon?
-
We don't need a guard for the short term. We need a 4 & 5.
-

No one is holding anything against either party. But to act like Wojo didn't want him is absurd. Offers from Marquette, Missouri, Clemson, UConn, Florida, Florida State, UGA, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Indiana, Miami, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Ole Miss, Texas, Villanova, Virginia Tech, VCU, Tennessee and South Carolina. Your kidding yourself if you think Wojo didn't want him. Red Flag? These are big time programs, pretty arrogant to think that he's good enough for them but not the Great Marquette University. I'm confident MU, with 3 open scholarships, could find room. Jeesh.
-
Doubt very much if WoJo ever goes the juco route. Cut from a different cloth than Bart.
-
My instinct is that Wojo probably turned him down at Duke.
he said he would go to MU, unless he heard something he did not like when talking to Wojo. Wonder what it was?
AH: "You wouldn't give me the time of day at Duke and now I'm your best f cuking friend. What's up with that?"
CW: "I had much better players than you wanting to play at Duke. You were my 9th option, at best."
AH: "I don't like what you just said!"
-
This is a loss for the Program. he said he would go to MU, unless he heard something he did not like when talking to Wojo. Wonder what it was?
He may have told Ahmed that he'd have to put up with you posting on this board.
In the future, Wojo probably needs to refrain from mentioning that given the damage it can cause.
-
you're saying Wojo cooled on him?
This is BS. She's wearing a wedding ring
-
Do we really want to take a chance with another Mormon?
I'm generalizing, I know, but it seems to me that being "Mormon" would have made a player less, not more likely to use steroids.
As we've seen, being of the Mormon faith has apparently not influenced Matt Carlino to be disciplined in his shot selection. Maybe Wojo could get Matt to use better judgment. If he did, Marquette would have much improved outside shooting at the PG spot. If he didn't, Carlino would most likely be a distraction.
-
Doubt very much if WoJo ever goes the juco route. Cut from a different cloth than Bart.
Coach K and Duke actually landed a verbal commitment from Carrick Felix in 2010 out of JUCO. He ultimately chose to play closer to home and went to ASU. He was drafted by the Cav's this year and just finished his rookie season.
-

I didn't say that. All I'm saying is that we don't know what transpired in their conversation.
-
My concern is we miss out on Stone, Ellenson and Schwartz and instead get players like Heldt who while a good player, is not in the same class as the above 3.
It's a little early to go there, IMO. The ship may very well have already sailed on Ellenson and Schwartz, but nothing has been heard yet from the Stone camp (at least I haven't seen anything, yet). It was commonly thought on this board that Stone's father was skeptical about Buzz, but Marquette seemed to have a decent shot at Stone nonetheless. Maybe Buzz moving on only helps with Stone. Who knows at this point?
If bad news is coming, it'll come in its own good time. If its not coming, why wring our hands over something that we don't have too?
-
You're embarrassing yourself. Florida is going after him hard. Missouri, Va Tech, Ga Tech, etc. I'm sure Wojo called him and said he wasn't good enough. Jesus.
Wow, a little over the top. You made my exact point about hand wringing and getting panties in a bunch over a recruit.
Where in my post did I say Wojo called him and said he wasn’t good enough? Keep building those straw men, you are good at it.
Sometimes people don’t mesh, it’s not the right fit for either party for whatever reason. Maybe the kid or Wojo got the wrong vibe, who the hell knows. I wasn’t there and I am not in either persons mind or neither are you. Obviously something didn’t fit for one of them, and my point is that’s ok. Not the end of the world. Sure he is a good player, would love to have him, but the program isn’t going under over losing a recruit who has never played a second of college basketball.
Now as far as embarrassing….I read some of your prior posts, I am not sure you have the right to call anyone out on that account.
-

And this was a total myth.
He's going to a blue blood. And that's not any bad reflection on MU.
-
So the first ripple comes along and there are people already bailing on the new coach. WOW! What's gonna happen when he loses his first game next year?
-

Frankly, we expect better. No, we DESERVE better. Wojo should consider this a warning shot.

So was Scoop shut down because of Hill's announcement? (Not sure if I should use teal or not)
If it was, it would seem that the (or at least "a") moderator(s) have belatedly gone with Sultan's suggestion regarding shutting down the board for a time following bad news.

Two high schools
Commitments to three different colleges, now looking for a fourth
Some people buzz cut themselves

I personally am now rooting for Hill to fall flat on his face. I hope he has a terrible career and wonders what if he would just would have honored his commitment to Marquette. I don't wish him good luck or any of that other bs...This is petty and juvenile of me, but that's how I feel. Now once his college basketball career is over, then I wish him good luck ;D

I wish him no ill will.
I don't wish him any special degree of success.
I simply don't care about his basketball career one iota, as I am a Warrior and he isn't.

I think we found who BRisabully is on Twatter.

Going back to the tweet, I notice that it is dated April 10th @ 11:00 am, but it seems that it didn't go out until April 16th around 8 pm. One way to interpret this, I guess, is that Wojo got Ahmed to think twice.
On second thought.... I'm thinking that Hill asked for and got his release, so that he could legitimately talk to other schools, but both parties decided to hold off on announcing until Hill definitely excluded Marquette fro his choices. That way, if Hill stuck with MU, there would be no need to get MU fans upset with him (and bothering him on twitter).
-

Where did I write the program is going under? To say Wojo didn't like what he heard is a asinine take. He was recrutimg HIM, not the other way around.
You said, "Maybe Wojo wasn't completely sold on Hill". How else does one interpret that statement? I'm curious.
Go through my past posts. I said things during the season and previous that others are saying now. I also ripped the transfer rate, Newbill situation, and the constant self promoting about his background. All the things people now are ripping him for, now that he's gone.

Think most expected this level of pettiness from you.
Going to be tough for you to visit your family down in Augusta and hear all about Ahmed's successful exploits in Blacksburg next season. I'm sure you'll let everyone down there know you're actively hoping one of their native sons fails miserably with his dreams.

You seem to have taken an unhealthy interest about where I'm from and where I have family. Didn't attack the kid at all, just don't want to wish someone well who left my beloved team in a bind. Hopefully he is happy, just don't want him to succeed on the basketball court. I want everyone to succeed at life though. P.S. Do you want me to send you some family photos so you can know more about me :o
-
The reality is none of us knows this kid so we have no basis to love or hate. He'll make his own way and I have no interest in any of it. Leave it at that.
-

Do you not remember that you posted you live in Wisconsin (presumably Seymour, since you've watched Cohen multiple times) and have family in Augusta, Ga. (since you've watched Hill multiple times)?
And, yes, rooting for Hill to "fall flat on his face" and to have a "terrible career" is attacking the kid. Clearly you have an active interest in watching him fail.
-

So you are 100% sure that Wojo was “sold” on Hill? That’s, why I started with the word “maybe”. You do not know, I do not know. Maybe, there was something about the kid that Wojo didn’t like or vice versa. Maybe, Wojo didn’t like his haircut, personality, who the hell knows. Maybe, Hill picked up on that. Probably, Wojo wanted Hill very much, but Hill just wasn’t comfortable with Wojo. It’s speculation. That’s what we do here. Most of the dialogue on MU Scoop is speculation or opinion, that’s what these boards are for.
And no it is not “asinine” or “embarrassing” . Had I said Hill was a 2 star recruit that we shouldn’t pursue, then you could make that statement. That’s not what I am saying. You are interpreting way too much out of one comment. It wasn’t the point of my post. The point is, losing a recruit isn’t that big of a deal. It happens all the time. It wasn’t a fit for whatever reason, that’s ok. Next.

Classy message from hill.
Could the difference between the date of the message and the posting of the message he because he was waiting for Chew to be named assistant at VT? I have no idea. He mentions chew in his "Dear John" letter.
Also, I think that there is some merit to the fact that Wojo might want to recruit different kids. Different by way of position. There is a logjam of talented players at the guard spots going forward. D Wilson jr., john Dawson, JJJ (many of us are really glad he didn't transfer), not to mention two senior guards in Wilson and mayo. Someone once said the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores. Maybe a sixth guard isn't as big a priority as a 4/5.
-
I never got the impression that Wojo was prepared to move heaven and earth to keep Hill in the fold. From what we know, Wojo never flew to Georgia...and it sounds like he didn't spend a lot of time on the phone with Hill either.
At the end of the day, MU will survive quite nicely. Hill is talented, but he's still just a top 60-ish recruit. Heck, JJJ was rated higher coming out of high school.
If Hill wants to follow Brent to Blacksburg (I have no idea why)...whatever.

There's a huge void in terms of big men. We need 2 more 4/5 positions on this team. Heck... even 3 more. JaJuan Johsnon and Fischer do not have a legitimate 4/5 to back them up on this team. JaJuan is more of a 3/4 as well.

Well, I hope he wasn't planning to go to Missouri:
Jeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN 1m
Tulsa is in final negotiations to hire Missouri's Frank Haith, barring a last-minute collapse in talks, a source told ESPN.
-
Buzz to Mizzou!
Seriously though, something must be up. Going from Mizzou to Tulsa is almost as bad as going from Marquette to Va.Tech.

That only makes sense since his best assistant left him to go to MU.

The bolded is concerning to me..and it is my understanding of the situation as well - as far as not flying to see him, and not getting on the phone with him extensively and early on in the process. And, I highly doubt Wojo didn't covet Hill at MU. We are not a school that can have luke warm interest in a Top 40-60 recruit. Additionally, Hill having made an earlier statement that he'd probably stay at Marquette unless he heard something he didn't like when he talked with new coach. Regardless, can't win them all, and not at all unusual for kids to break LOI's when a coach departs - as they are 80%+ committing to play for a specific coach....not school.
-
24/7 is predicting that Hill ends up at VT.
Wow. You have to really love Brent to follow him to Blacksburg, Virginia.
I don't get it...but then it ain't my concern anymore.

If Buzz is the front-runner for Hill-- I wouldn't be shocked if he made a big run at Gant as well. Gant received 15 offers during his recruitment - one of which was from Buzz at Marquette. You can bet he's already made "indirect" contact with Gant. As well as the assistant coach at Mizzou who helped land him.
Would be very disappointed to see Buzz land either of these two players for his first year at VT.

While I don't give a sh1t one way or the other about Hill I do hope that Bert struggles, becomes more desperate, begins cutting even more corners, and gets Pearled as a result.

Thanks for pointing that that this was a loss for the Program. I really appreciate how you were able to expand that observation to make your first veiled attack on Coach Wojo after only 16 days. (Unless, of course, I've missed an earlier attack)
It was a loss to the program, Einstein. No veiled attack there. You probably missed my other posts praising Wojo so far.
Reading is fundamental.

Looks like VT being in the ACC might cost Buzz Hill...... ;D
Wojo tried.......

Wow this is a good read ... And it reads worse for Brent than Wojo.

Its all posturing,. He'll be on the roster at VT, had nothing to do with SW. The moment BW left he was gone, probably would have gone to Missouri but now they have no coach.

Apparently, it looks like Hill wants to go to a program that wins. I've got 20 on him going to Florida.
-
We've got the scholarships. Tell Hill we will take both him and his "best buddy" Gant - no problem! Since they both might have to start developing new basketball relationships let them do it together with Wojo.

Cutting corners....Pearled....what say you Crash? :P

I wish him no ill will.
I don't wish him any special degree of success.
I simply don't care about his basketball career one iota, as I am a Warrior and he isn't.
Next!

In response to his tweet, I'd only add as Al used to tell prospective recruits, we'll win with you or without you.

Like everyone, I was interested to see if he would be at MU or not, but I believe there was way too much hype surrounding the kid. He wasn't even a top 50 recruit according to all the recruiting sites I looked at. We've had better players commit and play for us before and will have better players commit and play for us in the future.
-
Just hope he doesn't follow Buzz to VT. This kid deserves better.

What a great message by Hill. I wish him nothing but the best.

I'm starting to get that feeling too. He and Kasey Hill could be a pretty good guard tandem for them. Besides, for as much of a relationship he has with Brent, he has absolutely none with VT itself.

The guy's a train wreck waiting to happen...just a matter of time
