We’ve been a relevant program for 25+ years.  It’s due in great part to incredible work of KO and that was built on the backs of Mac, Damon, Robb, Tony Miller and the OG, Ron Curry.

So, so sad.  RIP RC.

Wow, can't say it any better than those above.  A key building block in what Marquette basketball is now.  He was one of the first guys that when you saw him play let you know KO knew what he was doing.  RIP.

Ron Curry was my first favorite Marquette Warrior. What a versatile player. Possibly Kevin O'Neill's single most important recruit in building a new foundation for the program. Curry had both size (6-8) and incredible athleticism (he was known for his ferocious dunks). Scoring, passing, rebounding or defending, he was exciting to watch.

Here's a brief notice from the Journal Sentinel:

And a more in-depth piece with some great archival material from The Pantagraph (a newspaper that serves Bloomington, Illinois, where Curry went to high school):

A couple points on the photos:

• Don't recognize the shoes? Marquette didn't always wear Jordan brand. Those are L.A. Gear high tops that Curry is sporting.

• I believe the Cincinnati Bearcat that Curry is dunking over in the second pic is Herb Jones. Man, I hated those guys.

• The fact that I could only find a handful of black and white photos of Ron Curry reminds me just how different sports news was before the internet.

Yep, we were LA Gear until Logterman's shoe disintegrated during a national TV game against Kansas. (players had been protesting against the LA Gear's prior to the Logterman incident as the shoes had been falling apart as the season went on). We've been Nike since the 1994-95 season, maybe earlier. I kind of recall wearing Adidas in 1993-94 (all black shoes).

My recollection was KO recruited Ron Curry to Arizona, and then followed him to MU.  Ron Curry was a better player/athlete than his stats reflected at MU (even though very impressive), due to KO's defensive scheme.

He could have played anywhere so still very grateful for his choice to transfer to MU.

One of the links showed a clip that said RC picked MU over Illinois State.  That's two Illinois kids who MU got over the Redbirds. Both worked out pretty well.
