The only good thing about Tenessee...whiskey.  Oh ya, and firework stands.

Otherwise....Volunteers suck.  Droolin'', cousin kissin', couch burning, toothless, knuckle daggers.

Offensive rebound on the floor and Taylor lazily bends down instead of throwing himself at it.  Show some damn intensity.

He was tired of the Derrick Dawson debate.

I'd hate to see the other guy.  Is Ners ok?

May not get real story but I'm sure he punched a wall...or something.  You don't bust open you hand like that any other way.  Pretty wild to have that happen before a game even starts.  Perhaps he sensed team was flat in pre-game.

Holding them to 80% shooting.

What game, if any, will we again hold an opponent under 50%?

Duane the real thing.

DWil nicely improved over last year.

Juan improved over last year with some of the same flaws.

Carlino about as advertised.

JJJ and Deonte showing flashes, but need consistency.

Steve a bit disappointing so far.

Cohen haven't seen enough

Dawson who knows.

Still think it's going to be fun and frustrating year.

halftime banter...what really happened to wojo's hand?

I read Ner's take (punch a wall).  I'm gonna go pre-game tussle with Juan.
(and no, neither Ners or I have sources)

Wojo tried to punch Bane in the face, not realizing Bane's face is made of steel.

Typical Scoop game thread. We get off to a slow start and the "fans" turn against the team. Team climbs back into game and then takes lead and it's still not good enough. This team deserves better.

To be fair it seems like there's only a small amount of guys on here who do that. I'd like to think a lot of us are just enjoying this years team for what it is.

I've given Derrick a lot of flak over the years but I gotta say he looked very good on both sides of the ball this half. Hope to see him continue to play like that.

Derrick has played a nice game thus far.  Though I do wish at the end of the half on that inbound after TN made FT - he would have inbounded it to Duane, instead of making Duane inbound it to him.  Duane wanted the ball/not be inbounder and Derrick basically said not so much, and made Duane inbound it.  (Unfortunately.)

What? I don't think anyone on here is unhappy with the team. I think most are proud and having fun seeing a small inexperienced group fight.

One of Derrick's best qualities is his strength when driving to the hoop. He's done a very nice job of that this year, especially in this tournament. He seems much more aggressive. I don't see as much of the PG dribbling the air out of the ball as we've seen in the past.

He is making really good decisions.  Previously, his reluctance to shoot or drive meant that he had no decision to make. Now that he is willing to shoot ( once in a while), and is more aggressive driving, he also has better options for passing. And he is making good choices.

100% Agreed.  It's a very unselfish, hard-working group.  Very reflective our new head coach.

Side-note, Wojo completely out-coached Tyndall today.  Wojo kept making adjustments, and Tyndall just kept throwing his hands up at the refs.  Think they will start missing Cuonzo anytime soon?

Why are we letting Derrick go to the line?

No clue, Wojo getting schooled by the other first year coach.  His guys know who to foul.

When's the last time an MU freshman hit 30?

Not sure if you're serious, but this is Donnie Tyndall's ninth 10th season as a head coach (10th 11th if you count JUCO).

If the game got closer, Wojo would have taken Derrick out like he did against Ga. Tech and sub him in for D.

Playing with Duane and Carlino makes Derrick so much better. Jake was an awful complaint because of his lack of dynamism while Todd just wasn't enough of a team oriented guy. Seems like Derrick is pretty much the same guy, but this system and these players compliment him much better.

Agreed.  We had enough of a cushion today, and after Derrick missed his second FT, Wojo also made a point of having Derrick inbound the ball.  Allowed him to stay in for defense and as an emergency outlet on offense.  If the game had gotten closer, I suspect JJJ would've come in.

Don't discount Derrick's improvement and newly found aggression. He is playing better as well as being in a better system to succeed.

Yeah derrick can be a leader and quarterback of the team. With duane and carlino as the gunners it takes pressure off him. So his offense can be what it is. I like him in this role.

Agreed it looks way better. Now he's able to take care of the ball for a lot of the clock and not worry about ruining the whole possession because Carlino/Duane can either make a shot or make another pass to someone else.

Horrible coaching.

Wojo just proved why he's a coach and not posting on message boards.  Says to Homer and Mac that Derrick brought up the fact that they were going to start fouling him and Wojo told him to walk to the line and make the shots.  Says some guys need new attitudes and the "Derrick is going to make winning free throws" this year.  That's a coach, not a simple number cruncher.

That's some great positive reinforcement.  Like it.  However, will be interesting to see when the rubber really hits the road and MU is up only 2 to 6 points in last minute of game - how Wojo chooses to handle that...the cushion today was pretty safe and allowed for a few of those misses.

Honestly, as much as this says about Wojo I think it says more about Derrick. It takes a lot to know your limitations and try to do what you think is best for everyone. For Wojo's part, that's some solid coaching. I like him more every day.
