The Eagle
« on: February 20, 2009, 02:31:30 PM »
I dunno if this topic has been covered in the past but:

I have a problem with our eagle mascot. He has the same jersey forever. Why hasn't he gotten a jersey update like the rest of the team? At least give him the modern yellow jersey

Also the eagle doesn't wear a number. I think the eagle should be wearing #77 as a tribute to the championship run.

Just a thought but shouldn’t the mascot wear the same uniform as the rest of the team.

Congrats.  This is the first post I have seen where someone's problems with the Eagle has nothing to do with the fact that our mascot is an Eagle.

Our mascot is an Eagle?  That's repulsive.

That offends me.

I want him removed.

Bring back Blueteaux.

But 77 is retired. Or was it just Al's "jersey" that was retired?

When my daughter was 2 she called him the "Big Chicken" and it hasn't changed. She is now 5 and knows he is an Eagle but prefers to say Big Chicken.

I think a nice, proud warrior would look the best!  No number needed...!

'81 should be the number if it is to have one. As in 1881, the year this great institution was founded.

Yeah It would be great if MU Officially went back to calling the team warriors, but since that will never happen...

77 is a year. Most other mascots that wear a jersey have a number. its often 1 (but that Dom's number) 6 (six man) or the schools Championship year.  Makes sense to me.

81 would be alright too

Personally I think the eagle is awesome!

The eagle does need a new jersey but the "eagle clothing store" charges $1000 for a new jersey.  Obviously this is ridiculous as you could buy an XXL jersey from the spirit shop for under $100.

The problem with giving the eagle a jersey like the basketball team is that the eagle attends various sporting events.  It wouldn't make sense for the Golden Eagle to wear a men's basketball jersey to a women's volleyball match.  And I don't think anyone want's to see the eagle in spandex.  But yes, the eagle does need a new jersey.  Just not sport specific.

The same goes for the number 77.  77 represents Al and men's basketball.  It doesn't carry over to other sports.  Also the fact that it is retired means no one should wear it.  Because of this 81 is a great choice as it represents the entire school and not just men's basketball.

A guy 5 rows in front of me won it earlier this season, and my 4 year old daughter was VERY upset that the Eagle didn't stop to talk to her.

Still think TT would look better in full garb with tomahawk, papermache' head, and dancing to the sound of Cherokee during the first second half timeout. i.e. see avatar.

I knew a girl who was one of the mascots back in 2004 I think. She had the costume in her room at Schroeder. I got to put on the head, which was awesome. No pics were allowed though.
