The resignation letter was enlightening to say the least.

I believe it, and it's the same war the Bernie Bros/DSA idealogues have been trying to wage within the Democratic Party (unsuccessfully, thankfully).

“The civil war inside The New York Times between the (mostly young) wokes [and] the (mostly 40+) liberals is the same one raging inside other publications and companies across the country,” Weiss wrote.

No, it's not.
It's typical, self-important nonsense from people within the Washington/New York media bubble, who don't seem to have a clue that 99 percent of the working journalists in this country have a vastly different experience than they do.
You think there's a war raging between the wokes and old liberals at the Indianapolis Star or the Fresno Bee or the Tulsa World or Omaha World-Herald? Don't be silly.

My favorite tweet of the day:
"Following my mailman around trying to tell him my opinion on Bari Weiss. "I do not know who this person is," he keeps saying. "It doesn't sound like any of this matters. I can't figure out if this is even based in reality, please leave me alone."
I will convince him.

Like the silly kerfuffle over the Harper's letter a week ago, this is a tempest in a teapot involving people who think way too highly of themselves and their significance.

Nah on all of this.  Bari Weiss is from the Bret Stephens line of op-ed columnists that she shouldn't have to actually think through any of the sh*t she throws at the wall in America's most-read newspaper, and that its an unthinkable crime for anyone to point out that her half baked ideas are stupid.  I don't doubt that she may have been treated poorly by some folks, and that's not okay either, but I have a real hard time buying her martyr act when the NYT still regularly publishes Ross Douthat and David Brooks.  This is her looking for sympathy and a cushy landing spot where she doesn't actually have to hear her critics, so she's dropping a neatly sealed resignation letter full of confirmation bias bait.

Great comparison, Burrow. I expect she will be on Bill Maher either this week or next to do her “poor me” act. For some reason, she is a fave of his.

Interesting.

I enjoy reading both Weiss and Sullivan. Two smart writers. But both take offense way too easily when anyone disagrees with them. You might even call them whiners.

Twitter is a weird place and between that and Scoop are the only places that really seem to care about this crap. Doesn't register with 50% of the population and moves the needle with far less.

As a point of comparison, during every presidents term, there are usually some scathing books written about the in-office president.  Not many care unless they have a bone to pick with that president.

The same could be said for this "enlightening letter".  If you found it enlightening, you should read some of the aforementioned books.

Right.  Mary Trump.  Bari Weiss.  It's all to reinforce narratives.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think it's really all that newsworthy that an opinion writer from a publication resigns.  It's not exactly uncommon and she was hardly a househod name.

I had to look her up. She wrote maybe once a month for the past 1+ years. A part-time writer rage quitting isn't really news. I hope she gets her mind right, though. She's sounds stressed.

Another take from NY Mag editor Matt Zoller Seitz. The whole thing is worth reading, but some key points:

That Bari Weiss feels confident enough to leave one of the most prestigious jobs in journalism when the entire economy is collapsing tells you all you need to know about how right wing personalities are protected by the safety net of the conservative media welfare state.

There is really no such thing as being unemployed once you reach a certain level of fame in conservative media circles. There’s always another job waiting you leave or lose the one you have. The money teat never runs out. It’s socialism for reactionaries.

The entertainment industry has its own version. That’s why, post-disgrace, Louis CK has taken refuge in a right-wing inversion of his old act, knowing there’s no shortage of people who will pay to hear others complain about how minorities and liberals are “censoring” them.

I think the real conversation is about how every conservative media personality’s career narrative is ultimately about martyrdom, even if they leave a place of their own accord because they couldn’t prevent coworkers from complaining about their actions and giving them stinkeye.

I don't know if prestigious is the word anymore. Not when a few on Twitter can change headlines and influence articles. AS for "Safety Nets" that exists for The left as well . Lisa Page springs to mind
