Didn’t see this anywhere else...

This is great. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to MU basketball Tommy. Keep working hard and you will make a great contribution to the team.
-
4 walk ons this year eh? We'll finally have a full bench!
-
Great story, thanks

Indeed, hope he enjoys his MU career
-
Great story. Best of luck to Tommy at MU.
-
Would be a great story if his hard work eventually leads to a scholarship. Hope it happens.
-
We look Tommys for Walk-ons.

“Marquette is a great program. It’s the type of program that if you had a son, you would want them to play for Marquette. They are good people and do things the right way.”
I love to hear any HS coach anywhere say stuff like this.
-
Tommy is a super kid, he is a great addition to the team. I know he will do well. He is a friend of my son.

Likewise, though I confess I'd rather hear the coach at, say, Simeon say it than the coach at Maine South.
-
Welcome to the family!
-
I hope for great success at MU for this kid. Seems like a good kid and one of those who could really use a positive break from the universe.

Careful. If a Simeon coach is saying something like that about a singular high-major program, he's probably a very rich man.
However, point taken.

Ed Morrow will be the best CPS (and Simeon) player at MU since #31. Meanwhile, Maine South's conference (and predecessors) has provided many more.

Think you got Teve’s number wrong.

#31 is Bo Ellis as you well know. The one of two (#25) from the CPS BE (before Ed). Fact is, MU has done better out of the Chicago burbs and/or Catholic leagues than the Chicago public schools. I only count three players IIRC in long memory.

This is a good point even Reggie smith and Jerel weren't actually from the city. Who's the other one beside steve?

My tally is just Bo from Francis Parker, now Robeson, and then Steve and Ed from Simeon. I could very well have missed someone in between from the CPS, but I cannot recall anyone else.

Cordell from Whitney Young.

Cordell from Whitney Young.
He doesn't count because Tom Crean erased the entire history of Marquette Basketball from 1978 to 1999 from this earth (it cost him $100,000). The only thing you're allowed to talk about from that era is Doc Rivers.

Robert Byrd, Phillips High School

Great memory. The other partial one was Todd Townsend from Morgan Park (I believe), although he graduated from New Trier.
-
So, how many recruits over the years from the Milwaukee Public Schools?
-
If they count as "recruits", Robert Jackson (Washington) and Buycks (Bay View). Those are off the top of my head - I'm sure there's a few more.

Odell Ball, Deonte Burton, Dean Marquardt, Trevor Powell, Jameel McKay come to mind

Terry Sanders (Vincent before Hargrave). Marshall Williams (Vincent) never made it to campus after NC State.

Randy Buchmann Milw Hamilton

Yep, we see him on the way out of many games at the BC.

Bit of a homer pick here, since I teach there, but is there a single high school to produce better Marquette talent than Racine St. Catherines?
Chones
McIlvaine
Marcus West
Jake Thomas
And Krystal Ellis too, who is the all time leading scorer for the women’s team.

I assume that old snakepit is long gone, yes? Toughest place in the old Metro Conference.

The McGuire gym is still there. If only our kids knew how to be an actual student section.
Pretty good team right now too. The name to watch is Tyrese Hunter (2021). Coach is Tony Bennett’s nephew, Nick.

Nick and Tony are cousins.

We could never shoot there. The damn brick walls! And the worst visitors locker room in history. But ultimate respect. Two great players off our respective teams built a damn nice little program at Toledo dancing multiple years together: Harvey 'Crash' Knuckles and the late Dick Miller.

Too many, hey?

Barro from Julian......although I don't think he ever actually played there right?

Ya know, I’m not even sure where visiting teams dress nowadays. The space that used to be the visitors locker room is now a weight room.
They finally put some pads up on the walls, but it’s still scary to get up to speed in there knowing the brick walls are just off the edge of the court.

Tommy is a super kid, he is a great addition to the team. I know he will do well. He is a friend of my son.
Just make sure he doesn't read the Scoop! Some weird mojo in these threads at times. Not a place for an actual player.
Hope he pays attention to coach, does due diligence in class, and enjoys the Team.

Yep, he could not play because of rules re foreign exchange players. Was able to practice daily with the Julian team though (per archives at gomarquette.com).

Pilarz hacked your account?

Well, most are well behaved with walk ons
