Carlino's Concussion
« on: February 12, 2015, 11:17:32 AM »
I may have just not seen him from my nosebleed seats, but from what I could tell, Carlino wasn't even on the bench for the game on Tuesday. Anyone hear anything about his condition?

In a conference call for coaches, Wojo said he was progressing and that he expected him back sooner rather than later, but making no commitment in regards to Saturday's game.

I heard he was watching the game from the locker room where it's quieter. Or was that the Seton Hall game.....?

I heard that same thing during the broadcast of the Xavier game.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If you are on a concussion protocol, you aren't allowed to attend the games due to potential impacts to your recovery due to flashing lights, noise, sensory overload, etc.

Just saw him walking out of Jimmy John's with a #16, jalepeno chip, and cookie... seemed to be ok.

Thanks Dr. Teamdee.  Did he wack himself in the head with it to show you he was ok?

But how is he when he starts exercising?

I'd wager that if he isn't cleared to play by Friday morning, he won't even travel to Omaha.

Fortunately the "sensory overload" at the Bradley Center hasn't been too bad lately.

Was he wearing the boot on his head or do they just put it on the foot cause?

I heard MKE police put a boot on the team bus as a precaution.

If the sensory overload at an arena basketball game is too much for a person recovering from a concussion, then it is also too much for everyone.  When I went to games we were civilized without the pyrotechnics.   That is why I am getting to appreciate Div. III sports or the Ivy League more and more.   Does the commercialism, making college basketball look like a dirt bike or pro wrestling event, really sell more tickets?  I hope Matt recovers completely and that the world of “college” sports recovers as well.
And, BTW, that was a cheap shot that Matt took, the ref's review of the video notwithstanding.

MECCA in the late 70s was MUCH louder than the BC is today...even when MU gets a full house.  No commercials or parachutes, but considerably more crowd noise in a much more confined space.

I'm assuming this is more a commentary on the topic of the atmosphere of a basketball game than a commentary on your understanding of the treatment protocol for concussions.

Think what you want, and get off my lawn.
Seriously, I'm not talking about crowd noise, I was not clear.
I am talking about the p.a. system.  The amplification of the band. I am older than mud, did we even have a band in the 60's?  Perhaps a couple of guys who played in the Wisconsin sticks in their high school band.
When I go to Seton Hall I have to put plugs in my ears, not literally.
If Marquette did not have old farts like me there would be no Marquette as we know it today.  "just saying"  Your welcome.....

I'm really old and don't get it.
Mr. Carlino is unable to be on the bench, in the arena, because of the protocol, right?  Therefore, the noise is an issue with his recovery, right?

Because the concussion causes him to be hyper-sensitive to lights and sounds.  Walking down Wisconsin Avenue at noon on a sunny day would cause him problems.
