Title: Marquette first in NIL
Post by: brewcity77 on August 04, 2020, 01:02:17 PM
Marquette is the first University to pilot a new data services program dedicated to NIL. Seems like a wise move to get ahead of the curve.

Name, Image, & Likeness. The company is doing analytics to determine how best to apply NIL rules to benefit athletes.

If I'm Marquette, I'm getting this everywhere as a statement to say "if you wanna get paid, we're leading the way."

Hell yes! It's worked for KU, Duke, Arizona, LSU, etc.

Would the big state schools with high enrollment and more social media followers have the advantage over small private schools? I thought NIL would work against schools like Marquette.

This is a wise decision.  College athletes are waking up and understanding their worth.  Be on the right side of history

In some regards, but their boosters will also likely be more focused on football. Either way, pushing your NIL plan and investment when you're literally the first school in that pond is a good place to be.

How much will this cost the athletic department, if at all?

In theory, nothing, but I'm sure there is some investment in working with this firm. As far as actual athlete payouts, though, nothing.

So, this would seem to apply to people who are in the public eye (athletes, celebrities maybe even politicians) where they would or could be marketed in some way like setting fashion trends, actions, words?

I think maybe that's why Marquette is trying to be a front-runner? Figure you're probably fighting an uphill battle against the bigger state schools, so why not be  out ahead of it?

I thought that has been Louisville's motto for years!

Or Duke's
