Title: 2011 WI Mr. Basketball transferring
Post by: HutchwasClutch on April 17, 2014, 10:44:16 PM
Nimrod Hilliard- Madison East grad, transferring from Lamar according to Mike Miller.  One year eligibility remaining.

http://host.madison.com/sports/columnists/dennis_semrau/on-preps-madison-east-grad-nimrod-hilliard-earns-collegiate-all/article_8b9a927f-644e-56db-ab4c-8c9eeab8826f.html

Probably not an MU target, he's a little guy, but with the state ties, you never know.  Has been a solid D-1 player anyway.

He's Nimrod Hilliard IV nonetheless- so generations of Hilliard's felt Nimrod is just a fine first name apparently.

Played his first year at South Dakota transfered to Jacksonville College to Lamar. Thats Reggie Smith level movement. Wouldn't take this kid if he went on a hunger strike in front of the Al

Son of Nimrod and Tammy Hilliard, is it possible there are multiple  Nimrods?

Also proves the Wisconsin State Journal is terrible at choosing top Basketball players in the state.

He was fun to watch in AAU ball, goggles and all. Very slim, but a competitor. Don't think he makes sense for MU, but could help a smaller program.

Also proves the Wisconsin State Journal is terrible at choosing top Basketball players in the state.

Mr. Basketball is chosen by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, not the State Journal. It was a relatively weak class that year (I think he won it over Paul Jesperson -- now at Pepperdine after leaving Virginia). Besides ... just because a player doesn't have a good college career doesn't mean he's a bad choice for player of the year. You don't pick the player of the year based on college potential, just like the college basketball player of the year isn't going to have the best NBA career.

The movement is concerning but we could do a lot worse than a PG who averaged over 15 ppt and 4 apg and shot 35% from three. Would be an upgrade imho

Over Duane Wilson?

I think Derrick will still have the starting job. So yes. Duane is a complete unknown, I hope he is as good as advertised. He certainly has the work ethic

It's also a biblical name.

From Wikipedia:
Nimrod, king of Shinar, was, according to the Book of Genesis and Books of Chronicles, the son of Cush and great-grandson of Noah. He is depicted in the Tanakh as a man of power in the earth, and a mighty hunter.

I remember a visit to the British Museum and they have a Babylonia section that contains the "Nimrod sculptures."

So Cush is a biblical name too?

My Gawd!  What nimrod would name their kid Nimrod?

A lot of Assyrian families have kids who are named Nimrod.    I believe it means warrior in ancient babylonian culture.

The Assyrian kids at my high school were some of the best wrestlers and I would have never messed with the 2 kids whose name were Nimrod.
In fact his name was Nimrod Namrod

From the Urban Dictionary:
Orginally from the Biblical Nimrod, a mighty hunter, it has come to mean socially inadequate.
"Oh he's a real Nimrod, he steals the dried snot from under the science teachers desk."

It's a shame to have one's family name unfairly come under ridicule.  It's insensitive IMO to refuse to recognize that such a thing has happened and have your child have to deal with that fact virtually every day.

Don't think Wojo was even considering him. But he committed to North Carolina Central.
