Big East Tournament
« on: October 07, 2009, 11:51:14 AM »
Was anything decided for the BE tournament?  I know that last year was still a double bye and there was some discussion of changing it.  Was anything decided?  I can't find anything official on the Big East website.  Is this year still a double bye for the top 4 or is that still to be decided?

OBTW, while trying to find this answer I noticed that MU is hosting the Big East Cross Country Championship on 31 Oct.

Yes - 16 teams for this year.

A few weeks ago, Big East officials said that while there was support and consideration for changing the setup, "it was not overwhelming enough", but left it open that it could be changed sometime down the road (i.e., after the 2009-10 season).
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

So no change?  There were 16 teams last year.

I think the new proposal is 16 also but no bye, so 1 vs. 16 etc.  I just can't find anything to indicate which way it will be played this March.

They decided not to change the format for this year.

This year the format will not change, which is good for MU. Assuming they finish 12th as predicted they play the 13th place team the first round. If the format had changed they would have played the 5th place team the first game.
