Hallelujah--a decade free of that cs'er and his snake oil sales pitch. Didn't take long for the folks in Bloomington to get his number and now he's Athens' problem. Don't reserve a etching spot on Stone Mountain 'cuz that ain't happening and he's no threat to rise again. Adios mf'er and the horse you rode in on.

Doc - I didn't like the way he left, but c'mon...he brought us DWade and a Final Four.
-
I prefer your May 1 posts...
-
Pros: 5 NCAA appearances, a Deiner injury from a 6th but still 3 NITs. Brought us Wade, Novak, Deiner, Matthews, James, McNeal, Hayward.
Cons: fake tan, left in a scummy way, empty promise for valley fields
-
I LOL at these posts every year.
Was living in Abbotsford when he left. We were up late one night shortly after the announcement and saw him and a couple guys pull up in his Escalade to go into the Al and get his belongings in the middle of the night.

You’re an embarrassment to MU and every MU fan.
Crean did more for any coach at MU outside of Al.

10 PM on FFC Eve? Weak, old man. A true I4 hater would stay up till midnight to celebrate ON FFC day.

C'mon guys. You have to get over Crean at some point. It's been a long time and he and we have moved on to other things.
Look, Loyola reminded me how great the good times can be. But rather than holding a grudge against something that happened long ago, it's time to forgive or at least forget. Tom Crean brought us DWade and the best basketball we had seen since Al. Be thankful for it.
Maybe someday I'll feel the same way about the Hillbilly. I'm trying but darn he is an ass.

Didn't take Indiana long? C'mon man. How long was he there? And he probably was paid through last year.

Now that is funny. However, it is more likely that Crean carries their luggage.

Billy
4ever is as good as an MU fan and representative as you can find. In addition to his love of MU ball, his commitment to the University is a level every alum should hit. Know your facts before you talk foolishly, especially in talking about a fellow alum.
-
Hated that prick, 21-11 and first round conference and Ncaa bowouts, usually looking overwhelmed in the process. Our gain was indianas loss, 10 years without that smug pretty boy has been nice!!

I was living in Abbotsford too at the time. Someone immediately started a FB group page about having Bobby Knight coming to Marquette. Good times.
-
I gotta get on the Georgia boards. I’m guessing, like Marquette fans before them, the Indiana fans are out en masse to advise what will soon happen.

I don't care that he's an alumnus. He acts like a buffoon on this board and has an unreasonable and dangerous obsession over the best coach MU has had since Al.

2002 - lost by 2 when Wade ran away from the inbounds pass on the final play
2003 - lost in the first round.... if you ignore the three wins to get to the Final Four
2006 - lost by 5 after Novak misses the shot to tie the game with less than 3 seconds left
2007 - lost by 12 (I guess this is a blowout??). Jerel's injury in the closing weeks of the season was a killer
2008 - won first-round game lost in the second round in OT to Stanford (3 NBA players on that roster) on a ridiculous last-second shot
Yep, a ton of blowouts. LOL.
As for the Big East Tourney
2006 - first round loss by three to Georgetown
2007 - second round loss to Pitt (finalist). No Jerel
2008 - semi-final loss to eventual champ Pitt by eight
one first round loss. Hmmmm
-
So... not about the FFP program...
Don't care.
-
Crean took the student base from 200 student season tickets to over 3,000 sold each year. Still happens today, because of Tom Crean!

Yep. Some folks here really don't know what end is up or have a personal issue. Too bad for them.
-

Thanks a lot, Pilarz

Was a student at MU for the late Crean and early Buzz years. I harbor no ill will against either of them. They weren't perfect people, and I hated the way both of them left, but damn were their teams fun to watch (most of the time). I have great memories of those Crean and Buzz teams, and consider myself lucky to have been a student during that run. Onward.
-

Buzz was the best coach since Al. Not even close between him and Crean.
-
Crean has a Final Four and built the program. Buzz took over a program that was rolling from Crean.
-

If "rolling" = two missed NCAA tournaments and one NCAA tournament win in the 5 years before Buzz took over - then yeah.
-
Crean: 190 wins, 5 NCAA appearances in 9 years.
-
If you look at where the program was when each took over, each did a solid job of moving the program forward. Objectively, Buzz's resume at MU is better than Crean's, but Crean was starting from a much lower place. MU was fortunate to have both.

If you look at where the program was when each took over, each did a solid job of moving the program forward. Objectively, Buzz's resume at MU is better than Crean's, but Crean was starting from a much lower place. MU was fortunate to have both.
Crean inherited a program in CUSA, with the Old Gym as a practice facility, offices in the 1212 building, a student section of 400 and an overall average attendance of around 10,000. He also inherited strict admission standards for incoming and JUCO's (he had to go all the way to Father Wild to get Wade admitted and needed to graduate one JUCO to get another JUCO). He also inherited Mike Deane's players.
Buzz inherited a Big East program, MU's all-time leading scorer*, a three-time all Big East player (and BE freshman of the year) in DJ, 2 future NBA players in Wes and Lazar (a first round pick), the Al, increased funding and was able to get academic standards for incoming and JUCO's reduced to "are they eligible? Ok then."
Crean left the program one ridiculous shot by a future NBA All-Star away from a Sweet 16. Buzz left it 13-18 and its off court and academic reputation in tatters. Advantage: Crean.

Yeah butt, T-Cubed is a total fraud and a first class ass hole. Takes a while for the slow learners to catch on, aina?

Yeah, that’s why the athletics staff longed for Tom and Joani during Buzz’s reign of error.
So TC snubbed you once, grow up, get over it.

C'mon Billy. Strict admission policies for TC? Without Dwyane Wade, one of only two players ever to wear the blue and gold who was a non qualifier, TC doesn't even get an NCAA tourney invite before he gets canned.
-
Don't know his involvement, but we got into the Big East while he was coach. Probably the most important event during his coaching stay.

If by the athletic staff you mean Chico, then yeah.
Incorrect.

Odd we played our first conference tourney in 2006. Mu lost in the first round of postseason tourneys as often as not. Crean list 10+ games in 8-9 years. He did ok, apart from Dwade for two years, his success was not very successful.
-
If "rolling" = two missed NCAA tournaments and one NCAA tournament win in the 5 years before Buzz took over - then yeah.
Haha exactly.
Lets see how people feel about Wojo if he misses NCAAs in years 5 and 6 🤪

Well your feeding into the story as Tomny Naismith tells it. I was a student pre-Cream, Dukiet n oneill years and even during tge very darkest times, far far darker than pre-Crean there were never as few as 200 students in the student section. Please recall Dukiet was well below . 500 and there were far more than 200 students. Often times good representation in the upper deck, far more than 200. Then Deane won 100 games in 5 years, 20 per avg. and had 2 really really good teams, but as Tommy Basketball tells it there were 200 students!? 🤥🤥
Total bullcrap and anyone around during thise times knows it.

The SEC has quietly accumulated a great collection of well-known coaches. In addition to Calipari, the SEC now has Crean, Barnes, Martin, Howland, Pearl, Avery, Kennedy, Anderson and White. Lot's of experience there.
I have no doubt that Tranghese was working behind the scenes to help the SEC step up its basketball side of things.

If "rolling" = two missed NCAA tournaments and one NCAA tournament win in the 5 years before Buzz took over - then yeah.
Why is it that you used five years here, but in the other reference to DePaul vs Virginia Tech it was only two or three years?
If you applied the same consistency then rolling would mean three straight NCAA tournament appearances and no misses, plus a team that was very good for Coach Williams first season.
Would you say Virginia Tech is rolling right now after two straight NCAA appearances? I would, so why five years in your example?
What does FFC mean?

Free From Chicos.
It's a medical term. Unfortunately, no matter how many times the mods disinfect the place, Scoop only remains clean for a short time before the noxious, unwanted fungus grows back. You don't know of a way to permanently get rid of it, do you?

I was a student during the Deane years My roommate and I showed up late for the game where Larry Hughes dropped 40 on us and were able to walk right down to the middle of the removable riser seats for that game. The lower level of the student section wasn't close to full for that game and that was not uncommon during those years. Other than the ND and Cincy games the student section barely trickled into the upper deck sections and we couldn't pack the student section for the ND game when 77 was retired.
Deane may have won 100 games in five years but his final two years brought little enthusiasm or optimism to the students and everyone knew the program was on a downwards trajectory, which is why he was fired.

Of course it is, TAMU, but i'd rather have a Nick Saban who is demanding of those who work with him (and himself) than a Bob Dukiet who plays piano at the annual Christmas party.

there's a difference between "demanding" and "being a dick," as Crean was. Then Buzz took that to another level to the point people longed for the days of TC and Joani.
