I hear he has a good outside shot as well.  Will he play the 2 or the 3?

He definately looks like he fills a stat sheet.

When Junior sits, I wonder if he can play a Scottie Pippen type point forward.
Jones at the top, Blue on one wing, DJO/Byucks on the other wing. That could be dangerous if Jones can handle the ball because I have read he can defend the point already, just don't know if he can handle the ball himself.

Not sure which stats are right, but on scout it said he averaged 25 and 11 his junior year.  Like I said Im not sure which to believe but its an 8ppg difference.

Scout has ballhandling as an area for improvement.

The point/forward is a rare, rare commodity in college hoops.

I think we'll know more as the year goes on.. he's playing on a whole other level this year.  His squad is flat out good - several other D-1 players (off hand, I think going to Nova, Harvard (a big!!), and Boston College, respectively)... but Jamail should have a starring role along.  Monteverde will be fun to follow.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

If he can make passes with the talent around him perhaps he's the type of player that can stuff the stat sheet and get 4 assists per game out of the 2-3 spot.  He said himself he projects as a "shooting guard", though in the 3-4 guard offense with Cadougan, Blue, Buycks, and DJO it probably means mostly the 3 next year.

And usually filled by late-growers like Pippen who was 6'1" when entering college, and 6'8" when he graduated.

Continuing a trend towards athletic guys who can play multiple positions.

Buzz said after the Mizzou game that he wanted athletes who had length-- and he's filling his roster with guys who fit the mold.

I asked three MU players at the Lincoln Park Zoo dinner what they thought about Jones.  Each one separately said that Jones was very polished, smooth and would be the best shooter on the team if he could play for MU this year.  One said that during Jones' visit he pick up a ball and started (cold) draining long range 3's for all over the court.  This kid will be the best shooter to play at MU since Novak.

+1,000,000

Getting more excited about next year all the time!  Don't get me wrong, I am going to enjoy this season, but another signing like Black and another top JUCO ought to put use in really good shape for the next year and beyond.

Great job so far Buzz, keep it up!

I wonder why Scout would say his area for improvement is 3 pt. range.

True but from "needs improvement" to the "the best shooter to play at MU since Novak" is one hell of an improvement.

We haven't exactly been a team filled with pure shooters since Novak left.    Great players, slashers, scorers, leaders, Warriors, yes.    Pure shooters.....not so much.

I have seen Jones in person and he can shoot very well from 3pt range.  He is NOT Novak (who is?) but should be better than the options we have had since he left.

I think we’re all in agreement that Jones has all the tools to be one hell of a player for us.  Happy to have him, that’s for sure.  Sorry to stir the pot.

I'm just passing on what 3 players from the current MU squad (2 seniors no less) thought of an incoming recruit.  Not me exagerating what I saw.  I like to gather information from all sources and give it the appropriate weight.  I like what coaches and players think of a recruit before Telep or any recruiting service.

Also, I never said he was as good as Novak.  Best SINCE Novak.

So a better shooter than Fitz, Cubillan as a freshman, and Christopherson?

I'll take it!

Did christopherson ever take a shot??  ;D

I was at a little get together one night and todd townsend tried shooting his jimmy johns wrapper in the garbage and missed miserably. In my not so sober state I laughed and he looked over and said "thats what happens when you shoot 16% from 3" -- very nice and funny guy that todd

Hayward is a better shooter than all 3 of those.
Hayward shot 45% two years ago, but his percentage dropped 10 points last year and his career 3PT% is around 36%.  Cubes freshman year and Fitz career numbers are over 40%, so I'd say they're better perimeter shooters but it's not a huge margin.

Jamail's Montverde squad is stacked.  Harvard, Nova, BC and hatless Marquette all at the signing table yesterday.  Should be a great year of growth for an already solid player.

Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.
