The amount of rural crime is alarming and why I never leave the city

The most violent soap opera on the teevee.

I may have to DVR the Lions game so I can watch True Detective.

Kaitlyn Dever cast as Abby for season 2 of TLOU.  Incredibly talented actress, but her build makes me think they're going for more of an mirror image/anti Bella Ramsey rather than staying more true to the source content, a decision that I'm okay with.  Hope she is prepared for the incredible amounts of backlash she is going to get online regardless of the quality of her performance.

The casting is funny because Dever was the single most pitched name by fans for Ellie before Ramsay was announced. Dever is incredibly talented but was definitely too old to play Ellie.

She was great in Dopesick

Wife and I are watching this now. I had a general idea of the origins of OxyContin and the legal fallout but holy crap there was a lot I did not know. Really well done show. Dever was fantastic...and because of that role, I wouldn't dismiss her ability to play a larger more physical character.

Shes a crazy good actress. Liked her ever since Justified when she was able to spar with Olyphant as Raylan.

Saw a really good little movie tonight called “The Holdovers”. Paul Giamatti (as usual) was terrific.

Incredibly talented actress, and I'm looking even more forward to S2 than I had been.

I know a lot of people who are hooked on the series, and of that group a grand total of zero of them have ever played the video game. Like me, a lot of them didn't even know it was based on a game until reading about it or hearing about it well into watching S1.

So yes, there will be gaming fanatics who act like dopes, but I think (or maybe I just hope) they'll be in the vast minority of those watching TLOU because it's one of the best programs to air in the last many years.

Rewatching season 1 of True Detective in preparation for season 4.    I had forgotten just how good Matt and Woody were.

I enjoyed 3. Much closer to 1 than it is to 2. I'd recommend it. Generally, the more time they give to develop those properties, the better. 2 was rushed and it showed.

Which was disappointing cause Colin Farrell is fantastic and could have done award winning work if blessed with material like Woody and McConaughy got

Are all the seasons independent?
I keep seeing the previews for S4 and it looks fantastic.  I've never seen any of the the first 3 seasons.

Watch season one, arguably the one of the greatest season 1’s of any TV show.

They are told as independent stories, but I do think it's better to have watched the previous ones. The stories definitely reference or look back at past seasons. It isn't enough that I'd say you can't watch future seasons without having viewed past seasons, but I do think there is a benefit to watching it all.

Or at least 1 and 3. 2 had promise, but never delivered and I can see skipping it.

2 wasn't as good.  But it had Kelly Reilly.

4/1 featured Lone Star beer and a flat circle, so nice callbacks.

Succession, white lotus, the bear, beef

Those seem to be the shows dominating golden globes and Emmy noms/wins

Abbott elementary, ted lasso, better call Saul, Barry

Less so

I was disappointed to see The Last of Us get shut out of all the big awards. Especially to see Bella Ramsey not win her category; Sarah Snook won, and was fine, but Ramsey was incredible in a very challenging role. But the voters obviously wanted to give Succession everything in its last season.

I loved Succession, which truly was one of the great shows in the history of a network that put out lots of them, but winning every freakin' award ... please.

I was shocked that Ted Lasso didn't take home a single award.   Their final season was absolute magic.
