Next 5 Games 12/6-1-3
« on: December 12, 2022, 11:32:02 AM »
Fri,  Dec 16 vs Creighton
Tue, Dec 20 @ Providence
Tue, Dec 27 vs Seton Hall
Sat, Dec 31 @Villanova
Tue, Jan 3   @ St. John's

I'm really big into breaking down the schedule into 5 game sets as another member on here is as well. Looking at the next 5 games (all winnable imo) What do we think the outcome is? The way the team is playing I think 5-0 is realistic, wouldn't be upset with 4-1 though. 3-2 would be a disappointment for how good this teams appears to be. 15-5 overall in conference is my prediction.

I would be happy with 3 or more wins during this five-game stretch. If we win 3+ games, I think they end up finishing in the top three of BE. I actually like getting three tougher road games out of the way quickly and hope we can snag a couple of road wins. IMO, while none of the three are world beaters, they are going to get some nice BE wins and would rather catch them early than later.

This is actually a pretty tough stretch.

3 of them are road games. 1 of the two home games is against one of the perceived top teams in the conference.

If we go 3-2 in this stretch I will be very confident in the remaining league schedule

In this stretch I think SHU is the only one we really should not lose. The other 4 are all very losable(each are winnable as well which is why i predict a 2-2 split plus the SHU win).

3-2 but 5-0 in the moral victory ledger

I wish the title of this post used consistent date formats (e.g. either / or -)

Creighton has been awful shooting threes the last month, so it’s almost a given they’ll shoot lights out on Friday.  😳

I finally went with 3-2 but was very tempted to go 4-1 with either Nova or Creighton being the 4th win.

Even more important is if we improve as the season goes on. With UCONN looking almost like an NBA team lately (well, OK...not exactly  ;D) we need to bank in enough wins to balance against two likely L's to UCONN. Let's hope I just jinxed UCONN.

I agree. I think we beat Creighton on twice on Friday!

15-5 conference record is an extremely lofty expectation imo, but I’m glad you’re optimistic.

Despite all the talk of the BE being “down,”
9 of the 11 teams are ranked in KenPom top 71 in the country.

At this point I think it’s safe to tier it as

1- UConn, Creighton, X, MU (all in the top 30ish) in the likely to receive a bid if they stay at .500 or better.
2- StJ, Nova, Providence, SH, Butler in the 50-70ish group of teams that have a lot of work to do to raise the numbers and will need to finish with 12/13+ wins to dance.
3- DePaul and Gtown in the better luck next year or in NYC group.

As for the next 5-
None of the 3 road wins will be easy and Creighton at home won’t be easy.
I’d be pretty confident in a win V SH but this stretch will likely depend on Fridays game v Creighton.

I kind of like the way that one is shaping up going in- I don’t wish injury on anyone but since he’s already been out I hope Kalkbrenner sits out one more and then I’d be much more confident.
If MU wins that it should carry to a 3-2 record or better. If they lose Friday I’d be surprised if they have a winning record in the next 5.

I’ll go with 3-2 with a tough gutsy win on Friday. Then wins at Providence and v SH, followed by fall back to earth type losses @Nova and @StJ.
I’ll say second most likely is 4-1 but that’s very blue and gold glasses.
2-3 would be just as easy to fathom.

Fwiw, this board would of course meltdown but 1-4 wouldn’t be completely disastrous as long as they weren’t blowouts

I wish I waited to vote until after the Creighton-Arizona State game. Instead of 3-2, I'd go 4-1.

I figure I can't take credit after the SJU game for my absurdly optimistic 5-0 vote unless I allow myself to be mocked for it now. Do your worst.

I hope you are right. I feel like Creighton is going to come into this one like an injured animal that is backed into a corner. Nothing to loose and really pissed off.

Do they have something to lose, though?

CU shot 40.7 from deep, making 11. Just couldn’t convert 2’s (12/35 for 34.3% - yuck). Diff to be that bad. Nembhard, Kaluma & Alexander combined for 1/16 … including 0/10 at the rim. Wtf. Can’t expect that again. #pray

While I am disappointed that Creighton has struggled of late and expect a dogfight on Friday, I feel confident that MU will be up to the task. I do not find Creighton to be any more dangerous than I did two weeks ago. They are a good team, but we need to hold serve at home.

5-0 is not an outlandish pick given everything we know today about Marquette's team and the five opponents. FWIW, I think 5-0 is more likely than 2-3.

Creighton is opening their conference season on the road against a team that beat Baylor by 26 in their place. Whether they were coming in on a 5 game winning streak or 5 game losing streak, I’m not sure I buy they’d be any more or less motivated to get a win. These kids are competitors. They want to win every time they lace them up, whether in a Big East battle or some off season pickup games.

Personally I’ll take my chances against a team while they’re flailing vs. one that is rolling or just figured some things out.
