Lots of low scores out there today. Greens are receptive.

Langer and Mize driving it almost a football field behind BD but competing.   Langer just hit a fairway wood for his approach on one from 215.   I can relate.

Hell of a bounce back for Rory. As bad as he could play to end his first round this morning,  but now -3 early in Round 2 to claw back to even. Been awhile since he’s contented, would love to see him make a run. Entertaining player who is must watch when he’s on and an even better dude

Also, have to say, the Masters App is incredible. Far superior to the PGA app and most other sports apps. Clean, intuitive, tons of video and content that’s not clumsy or distracting

How far they’ve come in the past 20-25 years to enhancing the viewing experience of their tournament has been remarkable.

As remarkable has been their desire to “grow the game” with letting the kids on the course for the putt, pitch and drive and the woman’s am.  This week, they created the Lee Elder scholarship for a HBU in Augusta for both a man and woman.

Bryson with a lost ball on 3.  Ball plugged in lush rough when he tried to drive the green.

The level of hatred for Bryson is so crazy to me. He’s quirky/weirdo, can be a whiner, and rubs people the wrong way with slow play, I get that. But I swear he’s more hated by many than Patrick Reed or other people that a true villains. I’ve never heard of bad interactions with him from civilians.  I know someone in Dallas that his SMU coach screwed over while pushing Bryson during his time there that he sent $1000 to with an apology note, even though he did nothing wrong.

But you look on social media or watch golf at a bar and people cheer his bad shots like he’s Iceland in Mighty Ducks

(A) I'm not a hater.   It happened.   He was the hyped player coming in.  Losing a ball and making a 7 is news.
(B). He has had negative interactions with fans, officials, camera men.

This whole argument you laid out is why Bryson is great for golf.  I have mixed feelings about him but he’s a must watch.  That’s good for golf

Yeah DeChambeau certainly isn't a guy I cheer for, but from what I can tell he's nowhere near Patrick Reed level.  I don't hope for him to fail, but in an average final pairing matchup down the stretch, I'm more likely to root for whoever the other guy is.

I think a lot of people are turned off by all the attention his weird meathead explosion is getting too.  That's not Bryson's fault, necessarily, but all the run it gets is just kind of eyeroll inducing.  FWIW, that also lead to him being overhyped coming into this weekend imo.  I faded him in all DFS.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to point a finger at you. Just riffing off you mentioning him.

The fans, well he gets lambasted with hate constantly from Tiger/DJ/etc fanboys and yet he doesn’t have the reputation as an a** to fans. He’s a Teddy Bear compared to Tiger for the vast majority of the latter’s career.

The stuff with the officials and cameramen is pretty vanilla too. Most players have gotten into it with officials from time to time. And blocking a camera man’s shot cause they annoyed you is shrug worthy to me. I think it’s all just further response to him being different and outspoken and a bit bombastic. If Patrick Cantley or Webb Simpson did the same thing, it would be a blog post during the tournament and forgotten.

Again, I’m pretty ambivalent about him, not some super fan, and can acknowledge the legit criticism, but most of the hate seems pretty hypocritical when you look at people some of these “haters” adore like Tiger or DJ

Never been a Tiger Woods fan.

I think that Bryson is so focused on perfecting golf that from time to time he fails to consider things and people outside his bubble.   Or how he affects others.    Yes, when he is relaxed, he is kind and funny.

I don't "hate" DeChambeau. But there's something about any guy who thinks he invented (or re-invented) any game that makes me smile a little when he experiences difficulty. I also tend to push back on athletes who are hyped, especially those who don't have the accomplishments of less-hyped athletes.

Now that DeChambeau has won a major, it gives the hype more credence in my eyes. And I do like that he's on the tour. He's an interesting guy, and he makes the game more interesting.

It's been fun watching him play with Oosthuizen, who is about half his size but is often not very far behind him on the drives.

Also, a pretty good golfer, one obviously capable of winning the Masters.

Glad to see Dustin win this Masters. He has been playing exceptionally  well for a while now and has definitely earned it.

Continued to be surprised that Rory has a hard time pulling together four good rounds in a Major.  Easier said than done for sure.

Looking forward to next years Majors when hopefully there are some fans.

I just prefer golf.

I love great, competitive drama in the majors.

Unfortunately, the “drama” part didn’t happen this year.

Meanwhile, the Panthers just gave up a 98-yard TD run on a basic handoff up the middle.

So yeah, I wish I had just been watching golf right then!

Rory is such a mystery. He’s got 4 majors already, he’s only 31, still so young, but over the last 5 years he’s just been struggling mightily in the majors. But otherwise he got his mojo back, 2016-2018 was rough for him, but he was POY last year and the FedEx champion.

Outside of Amen Corner in Round 1, he was the best player at the Masters not named DJ. Hope he gets it together fully and is contending every time going forward

Cameron Smith first player ever to shoot in the 60s all four rounds at the Masters .  He may be a factor in the future.

Bernhard Langer at age 63 finished 3 under . Very impressive.

You can't win a tournament on Thursday, but you can lose one.   Rory and Koepka lost it on Thursday.     DJ was not going to get beat this week by anybody having an over par round.  Cameron Smith shot 4 rounds in the sixties and all he gets is the knowledge he had the best second place score ever.  A lower score than his countryman, Adam Scott, had when he won.

DJ won it.   Nothing less than perfection for four rounds would have beat him.

You are making a very good point. Once you get deeply behind in a major it is hard to recover. This week the way the course played, it made it even  more difficult to come from behind, as the leaders were not giving up many strokes to  par.

Among those Langer beat (not even counting those who didn't make the cut):

DeChambeau ... Woods ... Mickelson ... Spieth ... Scott ... Westwood ... Morikawa ... Watson.

Had those guys been at the top of the leaderboard going into Sunday, folks would have been talking about what a great leaderboard it was. And the 839-year-old guy beat 'em all!

Sadly, a large swath of Americans think anybody Langer's age and older is worth sacrificing to COVID-19. But that's a whole 'nother thread.
